  1. Congratulations on your purchase!!! Can you share a bunch of photos with us? The O-320 (150HP or 160 HP) seems to be a little small for for the MKIV. It can work, but most highly recommend the 360 (180HP). The Cozy MKIV plans have us install the O-360... the IO-360 will give you an additional 20HP over the O-360 (very nice) but it is quite a bit heavier and some plans parts (engine cowls and baffles) won't fit. I would go with the plans O-360 and do the very simple upgrade to FI if you want. When builders follow the plans, they typically have good cooling. I am currently building the plans engine baffling for the O-360 with FI, and these baffles are easy to build and almost all the MKIV's that fly a lot use the plans cooling. Its a good system.
  2. Here is a photo of Zubair moving his Cozy project across the USA... http://forum.canardaviation.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6310&d=1330640503 Note that he used a very heavy duty trailer (Not a harbor freight trailer). He also used a moving van for the wings, canard.... all the extras. There are many online stories of moving a Cozy... its all been done, just do some searching and you can find it.
  3. I don't think they like the actual email typed out on the web like that... it can lead to spam.
  4. Its possible that they are on vacation, out of town... something like that. They have always replied to my order emails promptly and a delayed response is a little unusual. Certainly you used the correct ordering email address shown on their webpage?
  5. 5 gallons? Why so much? Yes, you should have checked it when you got... but Aircraft Spruce should make this right. I believe they will. Call them every day and ask for your contact. Heat it up as instructed above.... it will be fine.
  6. I used 335 for most of the build.... its a very nice system and easy to work with. I used EZ Poxy for the strakes and I liked using it too. Aircraft Spruce charges no hazmat for 335 or EZ Poxy.... I think they are both excellent products.
  7. The CG changes depending on how you load the plane (fuel, people, baggage, ballast).
  8. That is great! So glad it sold.... I hope you can turn these parts into an airplane.
  9. The square tube has holes in it for adjustment. Also, we need to use a 2.5:1 leverage ratio for mounting the master cylinder to the rudder pedal, and the attached image is closer to a 1:1 ratio so its wrong. But the image should answer your question.
  10. No, they do not have toe brakes. The first half of rudder pedal movement is rudders, then after the rudders are fully deployed the wheel brakes start to actuate. I haven't operated this system yet, but most canard pilots say that it works fine.
  11. Don't forget the option of buying a flying canard.... they are the cheapest they've ever been right now.
  12. How much do you charge to make a Cozy MKIV Cover?
  13. You'll want a piece of wood at the location your landing brake actuator will mount to as well either on the seat back or on the seat back brace. (unless you are going with the plans mechanical installation) Instead of straws, some builders are using hardware store tubing so that you can install SS/teflon lines in the gear legs.
  14. Building one of these is one of life's great adventures..... so good luck and I hope you enjoy it!! Its Awesome!!
  15. The Cozy and the Defiant are both huge projects.... but the Defiant.... wow I can't imagine. Very few have been built, its just such a big project. Its the Cozy x2....two engines ($15 to $30k each), two engine mounts($1700 each), two sets of engine cowls (at $800 a set), two FI systems (at $5k each), 4 ignition systems, 2 props, 2 prop extensions, 2 oil cooler ... huge canard, big wings... on an on. I bet you can build a nice Cozy for $50k if you scrounge. A Defiant.... what, double that? Don't forget.... you can buy a flying Cozy or Defiant cheaper than you can build one. Its a good option unless you really want the hobby of building (which I have really enjoyed). I don't know how anyone ever finished a Defiant....
  16. The plans tell us how to fix this in Chapter 3 "Quality Control Criteria". You should try to get it back to the way the plans specify the layups.... the 3 side layups don't wrap around F22, the two bottom plies do. Do not use BID tapes for this repair, use UNI. How about this... 1.) Sand the the bottom front edge of F22 to a rounded edge so the bottom UNI will wrap around with no bubbles. 2.) Fair back (sand away) the cured UNI near F22 at a rate of 1 inch per ply of glass (like the Quality Control Criteria in Chapter 3). 3.) Apply a UNI ply at 30 degrees to centerline, overlapping the bottom UNI by around 1 inche and wrapping on to the forward face of F22. 4.) Apply a second UNI at the opposite 30 degrees to centerline, overlapping the bottom UNI by 2 inches and wrapping on the forward face of F22. 5.) Sand away any side plies that are on the front face of F22, they don't need to be there. Or leave them... (but I would make it right by cutting them away or sanding them away). This is an easy repair... might not be your last
  17. Like Jon said, you can just the leave leg cutouts as is. If its going to be exposed to weather (like the fuselage sides at the canard cutout) then its good to seal it. Keep it light and simple (to help assure you get it flying someday and so that it flies light and fast).
  18. That Defiant price is very discouraging.... its a buyer's market more than its ever been.
  19. That is great news!!! I hope the parts are in great shape and that you enjoy the journey. I think you got a great deal on these parts. You still have a huge project ahead of you, but these parts should help make faster progress. As far as the spar / foam question... yes, you are correct. If the foam wing cores are badly damaged then it is easy to cut them off of the wing spar and replace with new foam wing cores. Everything looks like its in excellent condition in the photos... this was a good move for someone just starting a Cozy / Aerocanard build.
  20. How does the flying car video relate to your proposal?
  21. I sent you shipping address and email address via private message. Thanks!
  22. Can you include shipping with the $125? If so, I'll take it.... Thanks! Andrew Anunson
