    V8 Long EZ

"Alarming rate" I wanna see that. I would also like to see if I am able to kinda keep up with him. Yea, my big Cozy, albeit 285hp Cozy, keep up with him...yea right.
  2. BigS- As I read it, the work was already done. Rodger is just looking now for panel stuff. But yea, panels last, till everything else finished. Point to consider is the stock gross weight on a Vari, and adding extra weight; longer noses, starters, bigger cubes, etc and how that eats into what you can carry. although many fly these over gross. Vari's ARE, and meant to be VERY lightweight airplanes. The tradeout of that relatively heavy six-pack for a D10 was a good move. IMHO.
  3. Fever, chills, veins popping out...I think that was that recent radioactive spider bite. Geeesh! Didnt you look for that? Don't worry your spider sense will start coming to you.
  4. I read that link to the "unfavorable Eracer plans consideration". Then read LimoEzes post... SWEET MOTHER OF PEARL!!!!...LimoEze. The front seat limit of the Cozy is, I forget your wording now, but inadequate, wimpy, was your gist? ...and the Cozy[iV] frontseat is fine if you are a lightweight? That front seat is flown at 450 pounds. Regularly by some. Thats some serious meat and potatoes. I hope others havent read that post of yours and been put off the Cozy. If 450 isnt adequate, man alive, what did you think IS adequate?!!! Yow. BTW, If you want a good chuckle and head scratch. The Eracer plans will provide same. Jack's shown me his a few times [to illustrate a point], and they are like water in a desert, sparse. There's so much reading in between the lines, Jack needed a proverbial red-phone-direct-link to Shirl. And Jack's a pretty darn bright guy!! Have fun.
  5. My friend Ted, swore he would not have a kink in his and one wing ended up having it...the other didnt. I didnt cut my wings, so I wouldnt know how this can happen, but he was pissed and really scratching his head. It was one of the things that finally contributed to him stopping work on his whole project. Dont let that happen to you. He was a very conscientious builder and that led me to not want to build my own wings...despite many accomplished builders telling me how it's the easiest part of the airplane to build. [insert plug for Dennis Oelman's wings for sale here:Thicker spar caps, beautiful quality in every way. Delivered to you door. Can leave off winglets if you desire] Not sure what the kinky fix is, but if you micro-fill the top later you still have the kink below, I would think. Fill then needed on each side I would guess. It's a bummer. One thing has been said to him, at least, mount them and fill them as best you can, and you wont notice it when you fly. It's a non-issue. FWIW.
  6. I have the Longerons for a Cozy IV still unopened in the Wicks wood box if anybody cares to make me an offer. As Monte Hall says, "Lets make a deal".
  7. Yea, Spod. But who cares what it costs when the manuf wont even sell to an experimental aircraft. Certificated engine replacement. Well, at least Thielert wouldnt. 170hp is pretty anemic for a MarkIV. Be great for a Cozy III though. I'll say this, that Bulent IMHO really created something with that CozyIII he widened at the hips and IP and put the 360 into. That is a groovy bird. Fast, and if you are just looking for side by side seating with no two up in back but a lot of luggage room. Dang, it is hard to beat. A hopped up compression 175 horse 320, instead of a 180hp 360, would fit right and be awesome. If this diesel ever showed up and could be bought, that would be a fine PP for a III. My.02
  8. Your a good photographer Mr. CozyMidnight. =)
  9. Back in your original 1st post, you mentioned about "more room" in an Aerocanard...but a Cozy might be fine. You probably know, but the back seats is the only place that an Aerocanard has a bit more room. Go to Jerry's great website for a picture which compares the two firewalls in what you are getting back there as additional room. The front seats are same as a Cozy, no more room there. It has been my observation that the transition from front to back design-wise is a lot smoother in a Czoy[sorry for the Russian spelling] than the fatter bootied Aerocanard...but that's just my opinion. Maybe a guy really wants his bird to sport a fatter heiny. YMMV. Hope you get to sit in one soon.
  10. Jason. Hope this forum has been of service to you in your deciding on a LongEze. I just want to go on record, saying thanks for you and your fellow servicemen out there in the Afghan boonies. As you have gathered there's a lot of imagined expertise, and then the real stuff in canard land. Waiters a good guy to PM about your questions. There's a good mixedgroup here as well. Also, you might get on the Canardmailing list if you haven't already. There's a even bigger, active, group there it seems. Well, best to you, and if you are interested in side by side seating at 200 knots cruise...come on over to the Cozy540 Area51 way of doin it!! [buy The Long now, and build the C540 over the next 10 years =)] Cheers!..and keep those dam sand spiders out of your boots...
  11. I wasnt going to talk about it, but Ginger was pissed that I kept after Mary Ann, and the Professor drugged & shipped me out on a hollowed out log. I was tired of the whole island thing, as the Howells REALLY were a PIA, and the Captain always was trying to make me his little buddy. Sheeeesh.
  12. I think John Slade has a pin map with all the canard peoples locations on it. I was on one of those at one time, but then found I was off, so I dont know how accurate the map is. The best tip I got was about being anal with the cut outs of the bulkheads. Dont go to the trouble of doing the template/router thing to get minutely accurate edges. Doing the plans trace and knife edge trim thing is plenty accurate as the way the fuse is assembled later. The edges all get flowed and taped with flox radius' and there is trimming of those edges as needed during that assembly. But after building my bulkheads and helping another builder build his fuse...I lucked onto the BEST tip of all. Obtaining somebody Else's tub...and moving on from there. Many builders exhaust themselves out by the time they are ready to put the main gear in, and look at the expense of building the nose out, and stop. So you might think of this direction. Its a big project, and the easier/simpler most can make it, increases the odds of finishing it. Following the plans is the first/easiest decision to make. Getting "creative" can have deleterious effects to your completion. YMMV.
  13. You may be righter than wronger with that call, Lynn.If you added all the "lurking" and investigating time, before buying the plans,[which amounts to years for some- before they actually sit down on the pot] -and then STUDYING the plans, and then, DANG your right!!....i forgot about the building of that dam table...that takes some acouple months..and the sacred "hotbox" another couple. That might be 5000 hours before a cup of epoxy is even stirred! There were two points I was limply trying to make with my post. 1. Your project is worth squat [not even worth the cost of the materials and parts you have in whatever finished state] until it's finished and flying. 2. The second point is mute. 3. It occurs to me that, even if after you have a "finished" aircraft, if you modified it, it may be worth squat anyway, if what you did wasnt marvelously successful. Hmmm, you just spent 5000 [or was that 10,000-with all those modifications?] hours building a large backyard lawn ornament. [God love him,[i know I do], but Jim E. next to you there in Chino, Lynn, comes to mind]..and I really do think the guy built an amazing, simply amazing mega-LongEze. 3000 hours to 10,000 hours, it's all gratis, until you actually get paid back by flying your bird. So, the moral of this story is; Don't flip the bird. Fly it!!
  14. Thanks Greg. Your post kinda reminded me of the Mastercard commercials; Bunchs of fiberglass and foam, resin and shipping...........................9,000. Matco wheels and 3 pucks, Gear bow............................................1,750. Canopy, Turtleback, Elec noselift....................................................3,500. Your labor at 5.00/hr for 1000 hours.............................................5,000. Begging somebody to buy your half completed Cozy for say,.......10,500. OTD ..................................................and settling for............................2,500. Hanging on tough and finishing, and FLYing your Cozy..................PRICELESS!
  15. Great youre back! Was wondering about you. I guess a guy could do the same thing with a block of wood. Wouldnt be so robust, but not many have 1-1/2" thick chunks of aluminum sitting around. Nice construction tip.

    uni wanted

I checked and I have 45 yards of Rutan UNI, clean and wrapped on a roll I can sell you. PM me.
  17. Gives new meaning to the phrase, "mounting the canard"... Hmmm.
  18. Please post Beag's Berkut pics. I wanna see.
  19. 5280 feet means nothing in a Czoy. There's really no maneuvering room...That's why its called such. Although that rascal Slade had posted, he and Char got frisky somehow. So I guess where there's a will theres a way for some canardians. Yep, better just have her try out the front seating whilst its parked on the ground.
  20. Just to be factually correct, my chit hit the fan about RR '07, not 05. I was talking about '05 to someone about something else, and that got posted in my post. Thats besides the point....Theres a LOT of shiz hitting the fan for a lot of folks during the last 18 months to a year...jobwise, relationship-wise, etc, and I say to all. Hang in there, Bro's and Sisters...dont sell out, as long as you have it, you have the option. Sell it or give it away, and one day you get to be the old guy at the airshow, with the wistful look in his eyes about what might have been. And when you see that codger, offer him a ride in YOURS, and make his friggin day. =)
  21. I remember a few years ago, some guy, upset because one of the posts had some adult references in it. So to be PC. Dont read this if ypu are that guy. I am all AMPED up. This post should be entitled; SHITTY, SHITTY, bang bang...another builder dead. There I said it. Shitty. That's how I feel, and dismayed as well. I would put it in BOLDand ITALICS and underlined, but then it would just draw attention further. I have not been an expletive type man all my life, but life changes, and a person changes, and it is just incredible how troubled everything gets. Fill in YOUR blank, with regards to what "troubled" means to YOU. But troubled is the minimal description, that gets increasingly capitalized, italized, and 128 point fonted, as time goes on it seems! Three times now in a month, I have had a similar conversation/emails as per my email below to different "far-along" Cozy builders/friends. They are seriously considering throwing in the towel, due to difficulties. Damn it how difficult life has become! This was my reply last night to my latest friends Hari-Kari contemplations. ------"Bro ______, Thanks for the email. LIFE...whoa, what a mess. I am totally with you on that. Whats your ph #? Lets talk. I cant really motivate on anything. I just know that, the limiting factor is usually for me, money. Back during RR 05, I had just closed my business, and lost close to 400 grand. I lost my house to foreclosure and during this last year have progressed closer to divorce after 30 years of marriage. I think the only thing that provides any "Dream" for me, is that someday I stubbornly want to fly this thing. I may sound all basically "rosey", but I try sinceerly to not whine about life farting on me. The one thing that I hold on to is that at WHATEVER stage my airplane is at, in my garage...no matter if I dont do anything for a couple months...I HAVE IT IN MY POSSESSION, and I can COME BACK to it. Please dont sell your project. You really have come a long way. I went to your website and you do BEAUTIFUL work. Dont be one of the quitters. You will catch your stride if you are patient, and get back into it. What happens when you are 55 and wish you hadnt sold it? Just be patient and try to feel that your seasons will change. Try to picture it as YOUR PLANE, NOT just a project. There, I am stopped raving. =) I wish you the best. Call me, if you want, just about life or whatever. 831-392-5300"-------- These builders are BRIGHT guys, talented, respected in their professional fields. Life is just, LIFE...we have to somehow just hold on to our compass and feel that, SOMEDAY if we dont OPT OUT, we will finish these birds, and fly them. I am SO DAMN SAD that my friends, and others, lives are sufficiently difficult that the thought of giving up and selling is a serious option mentally. THIS WAS THEIR DREAM. I dont want this to sound like a Cozy-Religion, but it is a hope of all of us similarily like minded, that takes a lot of commitment, and promises a reward. I hope that somehow the guys/gals who are building can feel support from "above", perhaps from flyers relating their great flying experiences, or SOMETHING. It appears we true believers/builders who are getting along in the building process, are a dying breed. ...and it SUCKS!!!!! Shake you fist in the air and proclaim your future independence from terra- firma!!! You're building some of the greatest airplanes on earth!!! WE CAN DO THIS! Hang on BROTHERS and SISTERS!! End of rave/rant, or whatever. All I know is... I hope I can keep the faith, as well...and fly this thing someday.
  22. Well thats a bit better than, "go get a hardware store type screen" as directed by the plans. Then theres the question of some guys putting in a screem that is too fine.
  23. Just beautiful lines...friggin beautiful!
