  1. I finished contouring the fuselage bottom yesterday. I am thinking that perhaps I will glass it tomorrow. The plans call for the bottom to be glassed, then left to set up for a while and then flox it in place. My thought was to go ahead and lay up the glass, but then peel ply the appropriate areas and then flox it to the fuselage at a later date. I just don't want to do to much at once and rush things. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. http://flyingbackward.blogspot.com/ Flying Backward
  2. If I am not mistaken those gears are available from Aircraft Spruce. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/bostonSprockts.php
  3. Well the before photo has a lot of sunlight coming through. Actually the shop is pretty well lit, but if the flash on my camera is on, then the picture ends up looking a little dark (go figure).
  4. These two photos show my workshop at it's current state. By far the messiest it has become. I will not do any further work on the airplane until it is cleaned up. Compare these images with to my shop as it was when I first started:
  5. I think that if you ensure that the page scaling options are set correctly that you might solve the problem. For instance if you chose to scale the document to fit the page, the image could be enlarged or reduced. If I am not mistaken the print settings should be set to "no pages scaling".
  6. I want a merry Christmas too!!! .... Four gallons of epoxy Three Matco wheels Two Dynon EFISs And a O-320 dynafocal engine mount in a pear tree (with the O-320 attached)!
  7. Its been a little while since I updated my blog, but I have made some progress. I have finished the landing gear bracket installation and also the fuselage assembly. The later task was not very fun. I spent most of the time crouching on the workbench laying up bid tape on the bulk heads (instrument panel and forward seat back). I was a little sore then following day. If I were to do that again I would have jigged up the fuselage a little off the floor instead of on the workbench. Anyhow I am about ready to start sculpting the fuselage floor. Any words of wisdom before I being that task is appreciated. I also picked up my first flight instrument... check out the blog for details.... http://flyingbackward.blogspot.com/ Flying Backward
  8. Ok I just thought perhaps I could call it an "EZ Fryer", but that sounded a little to much like a kitchen gadget. "ONLY $19.99 plus 35.00 s&H IF YOU CALL NOW!!!! IT EZily FRIES ALL YOUR ONIONS, FRENCH FRIES, AND STILL CUTS A TOMATO LIKE THIS!!!..." (personally, I have never had such difficulty slicing a tomato.)
  9. Hmmmmm, I don't quite know how you got sex out of that..... Nevertheless they are not my type. They are way to blurry for my taste. At least all photos I have seen make them out to be blurry. The same goes for UFO drivers. I prefer my women to be in focus (and not hairy.... and not big feet.... etc).
  10. I have never seen a fuse stored on end like yours, what a good idea.
  11. I agree this does not appear to be viable. However, if I were to look at a drawing of a Vari-viggin, Varieze, or Long-EZ back in the 70s I would probably be doubtful as well (hmmm doubtful and in elementary school). I wouldn't invest $$$ based on what I see on their website, but if they ever build a prototype I would look forward to seeing it.
  12. Being in the northwest here, elves are not very common. More likely I was going to try and capture a couple of big foots. However if I understand correctly they are not very good at the delicate work. Finding latex gloves that fit me are hard enough and getting epoxy off of fur...... Would ply 9 work?
  13. !@#%!@#%&*^%$#~`=+ and every other symbol not on my keyboard. I am so tired of liabilty issues. Soon I will have to crawl to work because a 6'3" man walking is too much of a liability. I might just go... timber.. and fall on some ones beenie baby and crush it. I say lets just pack all of those adjudicators on board a big rocket and launch them to the moon... one way. Oh darn, that would probably be to much of a liability.
  14. I still have to check with Aircraft spruce, but wicks does not stock, nor could they special order it for me.
  15. I am trying to find 2 AN6-80A bolts for the main gear attachments. Neither Wicks nor Aircraft spruce list them online. I called talked to wicks and after a couple of days they just left a message for me today that they cannot find any. I still have yet to call ACS. Are these still available anywhere that you folks are aware of???? Thanks
  16. Thanks. I will give both options some thought. I don't thing the part should be to difficult to make.
  17. I grew up in the 80's. Head banging can be fun... Up to a point.... http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/music/la-et-quiet28nov28,1,5384628.story?coll=la-entnews-music a very fine point....
  18. Oh, and thanks for the great input. I suppose I should hit the books and go through the CPs more carefully. Probably not a bad time to sign up for the CSAs as well.
  19. Unfortunately I do not have a ready source of machine tools (nor the knowhow to operate them). So I am left with the option of going the Joe homeowner caveman approach: I picked up a dremel type tool today. The thing I don't like about these is that they offer up a few dozen ways not to do the job right. Nevertheless I managed to zap away the offending aluminum and the washers are now sitting flat like I told them to. http://flyingbackward.blogspot.com/ Flying Backward
  20. Well I made the LG brackets myself, so of course there is no steel insert. As far as the spruce is concerned it is already of course installed and glassed over. It would have been a little nice to know these tips in advance. I have made some modifications to the forward bracket to allow the washers to sit flat. Should I continue to work on these brackets or should I abandon them and start with new?
  21. I think the offending material is just in the radius. I might be able to file it away. Somewhere ( ) I saw some knurled tubes so I stole the idea. A local machinist my brother works with made them up for me. I am sure they are no match for the true thing!
  22. I do not recall that mentioned in any of the CP newsletters. Any reference material would be appreciated. Observant folks might also notice that the "bolt" and nut are not the correct parts. I am using, for now a threaded rod and hardware store nuts untill I can find the AN6-80As.
  23. Well today I floxed the landing gear extrusions to the fuselage sides. Unfortunately I ran across a little problem. Two holes in the forward extrusion were drilled to close to the perpendicular side. This did not allow enough room for the washers to sit flat... One solution I came up with was the grind off one side of the washers. This seemed to do the trick, but I am a little uneasy with this for some reason. Is this an ok solution? Any suggestions are welcome. You can see higher resolution pictures at:http://flyingbackward.blogspot.com/ Flying Backward
