  1. To celebrate my new blog, Flying Backward, I have chosen an avatar. Perhaps some of you know the silly relevance.
  2. Of course I am not a lawyer and don't have any extensive knowlege in this area, so that said, I agree with you. I feel it is a little more honest to admit this design is identical to the Long-EZ and for discussions sake I will call it that. As to registering it I agree that it would probably be officially a different name. If I were to purchase a second hand set of plans I might consider using the Long-EZ name to register it, but without a SN this seems to really get down to symantics. On another note, when should I contact the FAA and let them know that I am building an aircraft? I remember reading that there would be required inspections during the build, but also I read that that has changed and the inspection is only before testing.
  3. Roger that. I do recall that discussion. I was leaning toward MGS as that seems to be a very popular choice among builders. Thanks
  4. You know, now that you mention it, I suppose you are right. The bulkhead plans do look pretty simple. Wish you had mentioned this before I ordered the kit! On the other hand the composite kit is cheaper and I can more easily afford it now rather than ordering the chapter 4 kit. This subject opens a new can of worms regarding how I should order materials. hmmmmm.
  5. Well, my brother came down from Seattle this weekend and helped me build a workbench and start to clean up the shop. See my blog for photos... http://flyingbackward.blogspot.com/
  6. At this point I really don't think what I call it really matters, but for clarities sake I thought I would it a Long-EZ. I will give this more thought though. I am not copying anything, official Long-EZ plans are not available, except a used set (an option I am not ruling out at this time). I don't think Mr. Rutan has any lability concerns at this time as there is no aircraft flying or will be for a long time. Frankly I think any one would be hard pressed to sue any one based on what I call something, unless that person being sued is me. As far as insurance is concerned, that is the first I can remember that particular issue being brought up with regards to Open-EZ aircraft. I would be interested to hear more about that matter. Also what sort of spreadsheets would you recomend?
  7. I just placed my first order with Aircraft Spruce. Its just a composite practice kit, but I think I can officially say that I have started chapter 3. I also spent the last few days cleaning up the "shop" and today I installed some florescent lighting, seems about 10 times as bright in there. Tomorrow my brother is headed over to help me build a work table and spruce up the shop some more. Also I started a blog to track my progress. I don't know how often I will update it but if anyone is interested in checking it out goto: http://flyingbackward.blogspot.com/ If anyone has any suggestions about the blog or my progress please please feel free to let me know what you think. Martin
  8. I have spent a little time working with the cad files today and what I am finding is encouraging. It will take me some hours before I can share anything. Also I would like to send some full size samples to someone for comparison with an actual cannard and template. If anyone is willing to receive them and provide feedback, please let me know.
  9. !! Thanks Marc for your clarification. I am attempting to produce some drawings of the cannard for the Long-EZ not the COZY. I would presume that anyone building a COZY is using original plans as they are still readily available. Any information gleaned from this discussion I presume is to be used for the Long-EZ.
  10. I have a few techniques to transfer raster drawings to cad. I also was attempting to convert the drawings to cad but I need some reference measurements. If you could send me your cad file I might be able to assist in converting the remaining plans information.
  11. My nose is a little larger probably than average, but I will leave it up to the beholder to say if it is pleasant shaped.... Wasn't this about aircraft building???
  12. I did notice a set of plans on Ebay today. I do not know if there is a S/N or Rutan autograph with it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LONG-EZ-Plans-Manual_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ50453QQihZ005QQitemZ150143074137QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  13. I think the link above is broken.... this one should work http://www.cozygirrrl.com/aircraftparts.htm
  14. Also as just posted on his new website.... http://www.eurekacnc.com/ While this is not the plans is the Roncz.
  15. Is this the same gear bow that is used on the Long?

    What about fuel burn rate?
  17. Yes. Thanks for the correction.... WHEN I start. also not to hijack, but, I will probably get the terf cd in a couple of weeks, then study, house, study, parts.......
  18. I was considering using a scale as well (when/if I start). Do you have any other recommendations on this method?
  19. How much weight do you suppose your fuse. curve method will add? Also have you thought of any way to utilize the space for equipment? Perhaps a transponder, radio, intercom, fuse block, map holder etc could be mounted on the side.
  20. I did at one point, but I am not real confident with there accuracy. I started to make up cad files of all the A drawings but I am only to A-3 at this point.

    Toe Bar?

Theres never a camera when you need one!!
  22. Thanks. Yes, I have looked into both of those manufactures and they both look like very good options for a panel with limited space.
  23. Drew, you appear to be using some small rectangular radios. What is the manufacture?
  24. I would suggest doing away with th cd-player all together and going with a mp3 or ipod. You could place a small aux jack anywhere and it would take minimal space.
