  1. Ive made the long trek over from down under and am currently in LA enroute to RR. I am still seeking an EZ ride to the NoVA / DC / Md area on the Sunday, anyone heading my way with a spare seat? I will pay half fuel of course, and you even get to listen to my odd accent (until you are sick of it) Cheers, Bruce
  2. As Spodman suggested, much has been discussed of late with respect to blended winglet intersection. The actual engineered solution (not aestetic) is for a 12" internal radius. Additionally, why have a P51 scoop, a NACA is more likely to be actually used, and is it your intention to use up or down draft cooling? Please don't take this as critisism, far from it, it is to allow you to produce a more informed model. Luv ya work, Bruce.
  3. G'Day all, I friend knowing my condition towards Canards sent me the following article by Burt back in the VariViggen days. The points he makes are just as relevant today as they were then, and perhaps timely in some respects....... For your reading pleasure.. Cheers, Bruce. 1975_02_09_Rutan.pdf
  4. G'Day Richard, I purchased a partially complete project and whilst there were no structural issues with the F22, it was padded at one of the canard attach points. Whilst this was structurally sound, I decided to re-fabricate the F22 as I didn't want that sort of structure as a permanent part of my final aircraft. F22 does take a bit of work (many lay-ups), and yes that foam is expensive (especially in Oz as a small order), but I do believe that you could carefully cut the F22 away whilst retaining the nose structure. To that point, perhaps even 'release' the NG30s from F22 at the same time (Marc, you may want to comment on the soundness of re-taping the existing NG30s back onto the new F22). I hope this helps Rich', and I am certainly open to being corrected on this approach. Cheers, Bruce.
  5. Edge, take some to RR and I'm sure they will sell like hot cakes! I'll certainly buy 1 or 2 Bruce.
  6. Perhaps some exhaust augmentation would be good for the long taxis and holds? I understand that Bill James has made a most effective system, the challenge is out there for those with bigger engines. Bruce.
  7. In fairness guys, if you have a problem with a particular design, it shouldn't be vented at someone building, owning or flying that design. Additionally, the world is in some flux at the moment, so questioning someone why they are selling a project without any back ground information is a little unfair. Now I know all the lines about freedom of speech, but I enjoy this and other forums when there is a constructive (including criticism) tone. I'm sure others do too.... Cheers, Bruce.
  8. What ever was I thinking Tom? Ok then, it does take 'snarky' to the next level I must confess. I hope it has a very good canopy latching system, but at least if it departs in flight, it wont go through the prop! It may however interfere with the passengers back of head as it does a flip, but Im sure both pilot and passenger would be wearing 'bone domes' fighter style. Bruce
  9. No roll over protection? And if fitted, how would one get into the back seat with that canopy? Bruce.
  10. As I am going to Reno prior to RR09, I will be in the CA area and am still interested to hear from anyone over that way that has a spare seat for some 'self loading freight' who will go halves in the fuel Anyone know of anyone? Marc, are you out there somewhere........ (and will your aircraft be back in the air?) Bruce.
  11. Quite interesting and good to see your creativity. I will be keen to see the ideas you have for the side profile given the aft seating position and the resultant canopy line. Will keep an eye on your thread here. Cheers, Bruce.
  12. Yes believe it or not, I am leaving Melbourne and via LA to Reno for a week, then bum around Ca before hopefully hooking an EZ lift to RR. From RR, hopefully then another EZ ride to DC/Va/Md area to see friends before returning to Melbourne via LA. Did you still want that Vegemite?? It appears the numbers for RR may be down due to the US economy, but hopefully we will all be pleasantly surprised with another great turn-out. Cheers, Bruce.
  13. Looking forward to the 320 installation shots so I can take the design layout into consideration for my similar fit-out Bruce.
  14. Well good EZ people, I know there is a lot of attention on OSH 09 at the moment, but I thought I'd start a role call of who is intending to be at RR09 (in one consolidated thread). So, sound off if you plan to be there..... I'm hoping that Don will be there with his video gear again, and the Cozy Girrrls with their impeccable machined and polished hardware for starters. Cheers, Bruce.
  15. G'Day Steve, Wonderful to hear of another EZ person in the making in Melbourne. It seems that you know Spod, and there are a few other people in the Melbourne area as well. There are a couple of guys with flying LongEzs, one guy starting on a Varieze, another who has his VE project on hold (as lifes other priorities are leading at the moment), and I have a Longez project in work with a very long way to go. I do not know of any Cozy builders in Melbourne currently (when are you making a start Spod??) You may be interested to know that last Australia Day long weekend, we had the 1st 'Canard Muster' at Mangalore airfield, and I hope to plan the 2nd Canard Muster for the same weekend next year (only 6 months away). Once again, great to know you're out there Steve and if I can assist you in any way, please drop me a message. Cheers, Bruce (in the CBD)
  16. An indication of a realistically marketed price would be useful so we could provide you some considered feedback. Cheers, Bruce.
  17. Wayne and others: http://www.landfallnavigation.com/fastfind.html McMurdo FastFind Satellite GPS PLB Personal Locator Beacon Cheers, Bruce.
  18. Happy birthday guys. I haven't anything from Karolina in some time, and since return to the USA, Drew has gone 'deep n silent' no doubt re-establishing things. Hope to see you back and posting sometime soon Bruce.
  19. Bt the way, check these guys for prices as well: http://www.shopmaninc.com/carbonpage.html Cheers
  20. Hi Tom, When you glued the 2 pieces of foam together, did you give the adhesive plenty of time to dry and release its solvent into the atmosphere? One thought is if this isnt done, and the release (tape?) and glassing is done pretty much immediately, then the 3M adhesive solvents may be 'trapped' inside the bonded area and absorbed into and weaken the foam. This becomes evident when the vacuum is applied and the foam compressed. I love the spray adhesive as well, but after your noting this point, I will be cautious in my technique if vacuum bagging. Just my 2 bobs worth, and thanks for sharing your experience mate. Cheers, Bruce.
  21. Inspiration for us all Great work Kraig and great to see you are back in the saddle and making progress mate. Cheers, Bruce.
  22. Yes, still on the look-out for a good used SD20. Have you checked the boxes and shelves of your garage / hanger recently?? Let me know if you have any leads please. Cheers, Bruce.
  23. Another great write-up Dave, thanks once again. I wont say you always have a drama, but with all the flying you've done, you have racked up a couple now (namely the broken tie-down and JZE being blown about in Western Australia) on top of your poorly condition this return flight. Once again welcome back and hope to catch up soon. Cheers, Bruce.
  24. Welcome back from Brisvegas Dave I will definitely check 'Bunnings Aerospace' tomorrow for one of those levels. Even if not quire as accurate, at $15 you can't go wrong I have the new nose design 'in work' at the LCF as an update on my build progress. Cheers, Bruce.
