  1. I'm also interested in MGLs Odyssey but have some question about the VGA style graphics. This seems quite uncompetitive (in presentation terms) to the BMA and Dynon units. Just my 2 cents worth... Bruce.
  2. Yes folks, I'm on the look-out for something else I'm looking for a good SD20 alternator. You have or know of someone with one in good condition, please let me know! Cheers, Bruce.
  3. Yes yáll, I'm still looking for a used or new nose gear retract system. Don't be shy, let me know if you have or know of one surplus to requirement so you or your friend can convert it to $$$s Bruce
  4. Well it didn't take too long for the Aussies to start chiming in on the Vegemite cue.... It looks like I will be doing Rough River this year so,... I will bring a sample of Vegemite as the token Aussie. Hey Drew, what is your recommendation on what to wear, a kangaroo, crocodile and platypus hat whilst wearing a Drizabone? The locals will have no difficulty in determining where they can gain a culinary education in Australian delicacies! Spod, I also like Vegemite toast with sliced cheese..MMmmmmmm
  5. Glad to hear you are back home (?) Drew and Amy. Tough times for sure, but you have each other ad just keep smiling Drew, let me know when you have your lathe set-up again and we can discuss off-sets Settle back in, get your bearings and all will seem good. Think over those things you can do towards your build that require more time than money and determine whether you can make progress on them (unlike the rest of us time-poor people). Will chat soon, and will see you at RR before you know it Cheers, Bruce.
  6. Hi all, Im looking for a Wilhelmson nose retract system with or without the controller. Drop me a line (PM or email) to let me know what price you want for your new surplus or good used item please. Cheers, Bruce.
  7. Guys, thanks for all the well wishes and help in getting everything into my new facility. Jack, I think I'm right for the nose gear, but I do seem to recall you had a set of matco's for sale?? !st order of business for me is tidying up the fuse', inspecting the MLG mounting on the retracts, then prepping for the new nose (much needed). I will pop a photo in here every so often with my progress. Cheers, Bruce.
  8. Well, I've just returned from the Fly-in and I can say it was a great time. Thanks to all who attended, it really made for a wonderful collective canard spirit. I've attached a pic' of some of the fun at the Canard Corner. Bryan will be adding the pic's to the www.canardmuster.webs.com website in the coming days. Drew will be placing some of his pic's on his cozy 1200 website soon as well. Cheers, Bruce.
  9. Hi Chris, I'm looking forward to seeing you at the fly-in. I believe the pool at the airfield domestic area will be in operation, so that could provide some entertainment for the family. Apart from that I'm not sure what else is in the region for the kids and wife. The website has recently been updated with more details, so please check it out when you get the chance. Cheers, Bruce.
  10. If my calc's are correct, the full wavelength is: 2.3644 ft Very do'able as an internally fitted whip. Bruce
  11. Can the Webmaster for the Open ez site add this to events please, it's something Im putting together: http://www.canardmuster.webs.com/ Cheers from Australia Bruce.
  12. Hi Mond, and happy New Year. I think that if this aircraft has had a hard landing that has caused enough damage to see the main gear replaced, you should find a local experienced builder/flyer of a Long or Varieze to have a look over the aircraft with you. This way they will be able to look at the critical areas, and also assess repair options if required. Then you can make an informed decision about whether to pursue the project, and a fair market offer to its current owner. I did this when I purchased my Longez remotely (Im in Australia), and it was bloody good advice. If you are not already a member of the Central States Association (CSA) I strongly recommend it as it makes you part of a great information and support community for EZ builders and fliers. All the best with your quest, Bruce.
  13. Uh-hmmmm, sorry to steer back on topic but I think I found what I was looking for with respect to that pitot design (many thanks Joe Person). In case you're interested: http://www.ez.org/pitot.htm It sounds even cheaper than some of the cheap heated options, but not suitable for 'full-on' IFR of course. Now, back to your previous viewing entertainment.......... Cheers, Bruce.
  14. What's this! Yanks making Kiwi/sheep jokes? I thought that only Australians had that right (like Yanks with Canucks) What a worldly bunch we are! Slightly off-topic, but I have heard of an internal pitot arrangement (female as opposed the the standard male design). It was expressed to me that it is not ice prone, therefore, no need for heating and the associated issues, not to mention it getting kicked about. Anyone that can add some details please? Happy New Year from Oz, Bruce.
  15. There is now a website for our Canard Muster! http://canardmuster.webs.com/ This site has pretty much all the info for the fly-in and has a contact page to a central email account I will monitor and respond to peoples inquiries. As you may have expected, the numbers for canards flying in has continued to grow, but that said, if you know some other EZ fliers, direct them to the website, and get them to give me a call. Have a great Christmas all, and do book your accommodation sooner than later Cheers, and see you there! Bruce.
  16. Congratulations Drew! I must say though, Amy and yourself look like you are enjoying a rollercoaster ride in that picture More work in the New Year Cheers, Bruce.
  17. Just an update on the planning progress........... At this stage there are 14+ planning to come along and that currently includes 2 Cozy Mk4s, 2 Longez's, a Varieze, and 2 non-canard aircraft. If you are reading this on this forum and haven't been in contact with me, please do ASAP as I am about to make all the bookings for accommodation, aircraft parking, and associated logistics. If you know someone with a Rutan Canard and suspect they have not heard about our Canard Muster, what are you waiting for, let them know!! At this stage it is looking like most people will be flying in on Sat' 24 Jan morning for a BBQ lunch, hanger talk and presentations that afternoon, dinner at a local pub that night. More of the same Sun' 25th morning, and people heading off later that afternoon. Being a long weekend, the Monday represents a good extra day if the weather is a little unco-operative. Mangalore is north of the divide, so the weather there is much more reliable anyway My thanks for those who have ready responded, and I look forward to getting back to you all soon with some details. Cheers for now, Bruce.
  18. Improve our (EZ drivers) reputation? It seems the base design is beyond reproach in terms of integrity and stall characteristics. We simply need to maintain and further develop an open and supportive community where potential and current builders can be provided wise advice and support. Hang on, I think we are over half way there aren't we??? I don't think we need to solve a problem that doesn't exist, simply just improving what we all do in this community we already have. Why attempt to make things more complicated than needed? Just my 2 bobs worth...................... Bruce.
  19. Great to hear of some people from up north. The weather should be good in Jan', so hope to see you guys there. If you could drop me a line to my work email with your emails and contact numbers it will allow me to better co-ordinate things. Cheers, Bruce. bruce.sinclair@thalesatm.com
  20. I do recall a write up from many years back in a CSA newsletter on a chap who made his own canopy as he wanted his own profile. I believe he approached it by lofting some formers, then placing strips over the formers whilst still on the fuse' to ensure he had the desired profile. He then made a large oven box form wood paneling with windows in it. A number of gas ring burners were used to heat the oven box, and I believe he used a soft fabric over the plug to ensue a smooth finish on the inside of his canopy. I know it is not a lot of detail, but perhaps Terry could help you out with a back copy of that specific issue of the newsletter. Hope this is of some help. Bruce.
  21. Hi Gang, I know it is not quite as elegant a solution as the discussion so far, but what about a manual panel selection of RF? With some additional thinking the audio of both the panel mount rx/tx and the back-up hand held could be coupled while still leaving the hand held unit able to to removed from the aircraft simply and easily. Have a look down this path and see what the collective (borg?) think http://www.pasternack.com/product-MANUAL-COAX-SWITCH-WITH-SURGE-PROTECTOR-2-OUTPUT-PORTS-PE7139-71926.html Just my 2 bobs worth..... Bruce.
  22. Sorry for a slight deviation off topic - for all in Oz (and there are a few in this thread) I am currently organising an EZ fly in for the Australia Day long weekend in Jan 09. There is a separate thread on this, but if you are interested in attending please get back to me, and feel free to spread the word Thank you for your patience, and I will now return you to your regular program....
  23. SAF, you may like to look at this link: This is a similar design to Lynn's but in a LEz (Rick Pellicciotti ). This design in a LEz was done by the late Steve Drybread. I believe Velocity Aircraft guys may sell off the shelf system components, but would require adaption into a LEz. Lynn, any thoughts on this 'off the shelf' approach? Cozy Girrrrls, I sense you have also been interested in this product in the past couple of years (spotted inspecting Rick's LEz in detail at RR last year???) Bruce.
  24. TMann, have you considered the conductive nature of carbon and the possible galvanic corrosion issues with any metal fasteners and instruments you use (titanium fasteners are ok tho). Often a layer of veil glass mat is placed over the carbon to insulate the direct metal contact on the flat faces, but do give consideration to potential contact with carbon as fasteners attach through the IP. Whilst looking very cool, I do have concerns about the mirror finish IP reflecting glare as well. Just my 2 bobs worth. Bruce.
  25. Hi Drew, certainly broadcast this using all known resources. Wayne, yes as discussed I will be following up individually with Canardians in FNQ and WA. If you have an angle on Kiwi's (forum, points of contact etc), do let me know and I will follow-up accordingly. Spread the word guys and let's see if we can get this up for some time in the new year. I'd like to set a date by no later than early/mid Dec', earlier if possible. Bruce.
