  1. Does anyone know if there was a video/dvd produced this year for the RR Fly-in? If so, who did it (email please) and the $? Cheers, Bruce
  2. I'd be interested to see your FMEA (we usually use FMECA ourselves as the criticality of a failure mode is what really matters). Feel free to send me any notes, summary thoughts etc that you have. Does anyone know what lay-up schedule is used in this gear at all? This would be fundamental to understanding how it manages after a number of landing cycles and a hard landing scenario. Cheers, Bruce.
  3. Thanks for the info Jack. It seems there are so many similarities between the LEz, Berkut and E-Racer, but the Vne's vary so greatly? I can understand the reinforced canard on the E-Racer would reduce the chance of flutter, but why else (other than HP) would there be such variations in Vne? Anyone can chime in as well. Cheers, Bruce.
  4. Jack, how does the Canard compare between the E-racer and LEz? Bruce.
  5. Hi Allen I'm not building yet, but I've often thought of using a car fuel iller door latch release mechanism. It uses a cable and would cost you very little, and an hour at a wreckers yard. I assume that your hings are at the front. Just my 2 bobs worth, anyone with thoughts on this approach feel free to chime in. Cheers, Bruce
  6. Hey Mitch, I emailed you and am still waiting on a reply as to the total cost shipped to sunny Australia Hope to hear from you soon, Bruce.
  7. This is sounding even more interesting Rick. If possible, Id encourage you to make the most of the opportunity of being able to measure/weight the Drybread gear that you mentioned is fitted to that LongEz project. I'm sure someone on the forum here must know someone with a Velocity project that could do likewise for us. Lay-ups for a landing gear set is nothing for guess work. Striking some moulds would also be making the most of the availability of the Drybreak gear, but I think we still have some way to go on determining the correct lay-up............. one foot in front of the other I say......... I wonder if anyone has made their own MLG for a LongEZ or are aware of the lay-up for the standard LG bow? Anyone? Im sure many people will be interested to know the weight in particular as this is a component of the eternal debate! I can access the lay-up for the Berkut MLG, but I suspect that it is so significantly different that that information will be of little use to this research. Keep up the great work mate, and hope to hear the data on the Drybread weight and dimensions soon (don't forget to take pic's as well!). Cheers, Bruce.
  8. Hi Richard, I seem to recall that Steve used to work/share the LG design with someone who now works at Velocity? If this is correct, the Velocity gear was perhaps born from Steve (and partners's) earlier work. As a result, and if the legs are essentially still the same original design, then they may well just simply fit straight in, just like Steve's originals. Any RG Velocity owners to chime in here please? Cheers, Bruce.
  9. G'Day Rick, and happy new year! Just wondering whether there has been any further progress on this retractable LG project. I know you had the internal fittings for reverse engineering, but any word on a viable way to manufacture the LG legs, or their specific lay-up for construction? Perhaps easier to buy the Velocity legs (if they are the same dimension)? Hope to hear from you soon. Cheers, Bruce.
  10. Hi Ben, thanks for that link. I've visited that site before, but what I really need is a CAD file that I can import. As you are obviously aware there is plenty of work going on out there with rotaries. The thing is, to fit one into the back of a LEz is a tight fit! Hence Im looking for this CAD file so I can do some estimations. Thanks again, and have a great festive season mate! Bruce.
  11. Hi all, I have to confess that sometimes there is just too much info' out there, and it can be difficult to find what you are after. Does anyone have a CAD file of a rotary engine installation? In addition, any of the weight and dimensional spec's? Now if you also have (or know where I could get) a CAD file of matching PSRU of any type, I think I'd owe you a beer or 3! My thanks in advance, and seasons greeting from Australia (Oz). Cheers, Bruce.
  12. G'Day Tony, as always, lovely work, great finish! Given your innovative application of other designed engineering solutions, do tell what you have in mind for the safety latch for the canopy? The standard LEz spring sheet metal? Further to Jon's lead, what is your proposed solution for sealing the canopy as well? Keep up the great work mate. Cheers, Bruce.
  13. Well guys, I think we all agree that working to base 10 or 100 is far easier, intuitive........... perhaps common sense? Of course I respect that people, communities, and countries can do as they wish, but......... why not just join the rest of the world (and other professions) and use SI units? It would seem that using decimal inches is just acknowledging how outdated and awkward imperial measure really is. Just from the record, I am old enough to know how to use both systems of measure, and am technically training to use both Just my 2 cents worth (another example of base 100 use). Cheers, Bruce.
  14. Guys, has anyone done an all up weight comparison between the infinity and Drybread fit-out? Further and perhaps more importantly, the moment calc', and the effect on a LongEz W&B (once the hyd' pump and accessories are included)? Rick, I do look forward to hearing how your Jan' trip to Florida goes, and any updates on whether the CozyGirls will produce components/complete systems. Do you have any idea how much fuel tank volume is lost with the Drybread fit-out? One other possible downside of the Drybread LG design is that it does not place the wheels and further outboard in the extended position to avoid the FOD/prop' issue (unlike the Infinity I understand). Having said that, simplicity is always going to be an advantage of the Drybread system. (hope you like that one Marc, although I know it's not as simple as fixed gear ) Cheers guys, and hope your Thanksgiving was a wonderful one. Bruce.
  15. Nathan, Richard, any leads on where I could find more information on the 540 EZ, and what mod's were done to it to carry the extra weight? I know that lengthening the nose achieves some compensation, but as for how to estimate that, Im not too sure (is it just the W&B calc's? Marc, any advice would be appreciated). I've also heard of a direct drive V8 in a LongEz some years back, much the same mod's would have been required I assume. Does anyone know whether there were corresponding changes to the size of the longeron material or any of the lay-ups to provide the required support for the larger (vibtating) 540? Richard, I know the early Berkuts had foam core wings, wasn't that the same 2lb foam, just with more dense foam skins on the strakes? My thanks in advance, Bruce.
  16. Guys, this is most encouraging news! Im not sure where this is leading, it is the intention that the design of this LG be available in the public domain in a some-what re-engineered way? Any indication (as Im over here in Australia) as to the cost of the currently available Velocity RG kit, and it's comparative weight to the FG on the LongEz? Great work on the research and active persuit of this sub-system as I think many are interested in an alternative to the somewhat good but expensive Infinity RG. Cheers, Bruce.
  17. Jon, are CG Products looking to produce this LG design? If Im not mistaken, it is also the same design used in the Velocity (Steve's former partner with the gear?), so i wonder if they sell the LG as a kit or even individual items? Bruce.
  18. Hi Bruce, is international shipping of your DVD set available, and is it available in PAL format? Cheers from Australia.
  19. Hey Tony, did I ever tell you how much love your rendered models If you really are looking to include a baggae pod of some sort, and don't like the conventional wing mounted designs, have you considered a conformal design under your (some-what long) intake moulding? It can be made wider without much depth, therefore not creating a clearance issue. I would however recommend making an assessment of any aerodynamic affect it may create. All a little off-topic, i know. Cheers, Bruce.
  20. Further to this thread, I understand that the Berkut strake uses a convex upper surface. What affect, if any, does this have on comparative performance (Longeze, Cozy, and Berkut), eg. greater lift at low airspeed? Cheers, Bruce.
  21. Tony, that's looking great! I don't know where you find the time to fit it all in? Glad you are as diligent as you are keeping us all abreast of your progress. Keep up the great work, and I will also get back to you soon about my ideas. Cheers, Bruce.
  22. Hi Jim, I emailed you, but no reply? Have the parts been spoken for, or have you gone sailing? Please let me know either way when you get back please as I can organise for parts to be picked up in France. Cheers, Bruce.
  23. Any idea what caused the accident at all? Stall, engine trouble, heavy landing............? I wonder how the strip molded fuse' held up to the impact? Any references that I could follow-up to the nature of the accident would be appreciated. Thanks, Bruce.
  24. Hi Richard, any other info on the Dart at all? Does anyone know how many hours it racked up before being out of service, or anything of its performance? Is it using the LEz canard/wing combo? I think the fuse' design looks quite good, but if the whole package doesn't work.............. well......... Cheers, Bruce.
  25. Hi Jack, Im sure we are all very interested to benefit from your knowledge and ideas of what aspects of canard design contribute to real gains in aerodynamic efficiency. Do you have a website for your aircraft and your endeavours? You mentioned that you gained 8kts from your mod's to your cowlings, what other mod's have revealed benefits? Thanks for sharing your experience. Bruce.
