HatSwitch Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Awhile back, I found what I consider to be a great Classic Rock station streaming online - WCSX.com out of Detroit. I'm near L.A. and to me our local stations simply suck. The mix of music WCSX plays seems custom tuned to my ears and I really enjoy having it cranked-up while working in the shop especially when the MGS and glass are flying or I'm just checking in here. Anyway, WCSX has become part of my shop's routine and culture, sets a nice pace and seems to keep me in a good mood even when I know I just screwed up something I working on. We all like what we like for whatever reason, what do you do as a matter of routine, if anything, that makes your shop a little more user friendly for you? rickh Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 NPR. KUNC[.org] has quite a mix of tunes, though they don't play the Organic Flaming Broccoli Florette's much... if at all (what a coincidence, there's an emoticon for it!) Not much Floyd, Stones, or AC/DC, but it fills in nicely given I nuked my Tee-Vee 20 some odd years ago. Cozy1200 Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I listen to SPODMAN on the scanner! serously. I just chuckle that he's at work pushing tin dreaming of building. While I'm in the shop building a plane and dreaming of flying! I have an RST antennta kit I built that I've hooked up to my scanner. The reception is so good that I can hear both sides of the conversation for most calls. There's enought traffic in the area that is hardly every stops. I also have an old laptop that runs the webcam. I also use it occasionally to browse builders websites. Quote Drew Chaplin (aka the Foam Whisperer) --- www.Cozy1200.com - I'm a builder now! --- Brace for impact...

There is a way to speak freely and at the same time, go out of your way to keep from stepping on any fairy tales being dragged around by the super sensitive crowd: Change the text color to match the background. That way, whoever wants to read what you have to say will only have to highlight the text area in order to see it. mfryer Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 Rick: If you listen to Limbaugh while you build your plane do you think it will make it steer to the right? build on STeve Well, we all know that conventional prop/tractor aircraft do have a left turning tendency on take off due to p factor, torque etc. That being said, cannard pusher aircraft......darn it! why do I let you folks suck me into these political things!!! Back on the topic, I listen to the local alternative rock station 107.7 from Seattle. Why? I don't know. I am not a big fan of any of the bands that play, but it just seems now to fit the atmosphere of the shop. The smell of epoxy and the sound of the music seems to fit now... I am starting to get the urge to go back into the shop and work now.... Quote
macleodm3 Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 what do you do as a matter of routine, if anything, that makes your shop a little more user friendly for you? I enjoy loading up several CD's, and for the last few layup sessions its been the Chili Peppers, as well as two "new" used CD's I got from the band Live, and lately there's been an Audioslave album finding its way into the mix. The radio stations around here mostly have an identity crisis, one minute they'll be playing Metallica or Britney Spears, then an hour later it'll be 1970's gospel music. If I had XM, like our car has, my favorite channel would be "Lucy"... its rock from the last 20 years. Its amazing how fast three good CD's can play while doing layups! Quote Andrew Anunson I work underground and I play in the sky... no problem
argoldman Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 In the cold weather, I listen to any station that I am able to get with my small radio in my closed hanger. mplafleur Posted April 23, 2008 Posted April 23, 2008 I get all of Limbaugh's shows on MP3's. I haven't missed a show in two years. Although sometimes I get a month behind. His new stand-ins, Lewis and Davis, are awesome. I also play a lot of older music, from big band to ELP, Supertramp, Moody Blues, Beatle, ELO, Cat Stevens, Rick Wakeman, Yes, Tull, to Porcupine Tree and Dream Theater. On the weekend it's Click and Clack, Prairie Home Companion, American Life, Thistle and Shamrock. That is if I'm not heavily into Rush. Quote Mike LaFLeur - Cozy MkIV #1155N68ML

I’d be too irritated to focus on making parts with either blaring in the background. mfryer Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Yes and Limbaugh, interesting mix. I saw Yes in Seattle about 6 years ago, Audioslave a few years back as well. Ill see Rush at the George in Eastern, WA in a month or so....I wish there was an airstrip near by and I would fly, unfortunately I will have to take a car this time. Quote
Cozy Girrrl Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Some of these old guys are best remembered in your heart. I used to say I'd marry any one of the Moody Blues. Recently the last PBS concert I heard of them was almost painful to listen to, I opted to not get tickets when they came to town. One of the local casinos has Canned Heat coming, great bluesy rock but the sound clips they keep playing are off original recordings, not what remains of the group other than the name. I find some boogey blues is condusive to work like Little Feat. Jimmy Buffet makes me dream of far away places and good times with friends. Oddly enough I find myself as an adult finding appreciation for music from my teens that I formerly paid no attention to... Metalica, Kiss, etc, maybe its due to the degradation of my hearing that this is the only thing that comes through whereas the more sensetive music of my youth is falling flat after abusing my hearing? Yes, a subwoofer in the workshop really helps ...Chrissi ....WHAT? Quote CG Products www.CozyGirrrl.com Cozy Mk-IV RG 13B Turbo
