  1. Can't help with the ID, but that is one sleek machine standing in the background there! Regading the window ... in that area the skin has been thinned out anyways, might just as well use the same technique as the side windows in the canopy to fit such as shown.
  2. Well done on the 50K hits and so soon too!! You must be doing something right Good luck & nice site!

    good news

Great news! There is only so much fun that one can endure, isn't it?
  4. Nothing wrong w VariEze from where I stand, but for not much more you could build a LongEze ... which is slightly better and a later design ... and so is the Cozy, which is what I ended up building You just have to do what you have to do ... don't pick anything that you see a lot of them falling out of the sky ... so far so good ...
  5. Thanks for the reply, No, this is not the first time , it's my second at the drome (twice during construction) and my 4th overall. 1 & 2 were during construction while leaning over to grab a tool or moving the ballast. 3rd was while pushing the plane out for its very first flight and the wheel hooked on the hangar rail. 4th was by vigorous winding down of the wheel and having the plane parked slightly nose up - (& not accepting help when it was offered too) the 2 blade prop was level when it happened, so no damage there. Soon I'll be installing wheelpants and a spinner, then the lesson will be more expensive ...! So, you others, try to learn from my experience, that way it's cheaper for you
  6. Ok, it's sort of on W & B... Here I am, having had a wonderful test flight to determine fuel consumption, using a fellow aviator for the navigation & some company. In flight the plane trims at midway and behaves fine. All said & done, I get out my plane and so does the other fellow. At this point my plane is empty in the front and (of course) no nose ballast, navigator walks away and before I can wind the wheel in ... it starts tipping. Do you think I can keep this plane nose down by hand ... not on your nellie, there she tips over backward and lifts me with (I hung on at the pilot side.) (Calculated the C of G empty is about 108.5) Once over, there is no way I can get this plane back down by myself, even hanging on the canard in total (all 200 Lb of my bulk) How does this relate to your experiences? OK, when the other airport buddies came to it was easy, but then so are most things when you have a crowd :-) Regards, Chris Van Hoof
  7. On my plane I used Oregon pine, just because some was locally available. Like you, I would have been filled with doubt etc, now that I've got the experience ... I'd just used them and get on with it. Happy building.
  8. Also I understand that this is an older photo and Yair Gil is waiting out some weather and about to get going again. So just for information ... this from YG on the Cozy Builders group - Quote: Hi, The last few days I had minimal internet access and not always. There are about 200 different emails in my email Inbox which for me it just impossible to answer one by one. So I will tray a general answer: I'm in Iceland, waiting for a better weather. I hope to leave to the UK by Monday. About events, I will write a report upon landing at home. What I can say by now which is sure important to everyone on the list is that: During my NG up landing at North Scotland I made two mistakes: 1-Forgot to lower the NG. 2-During that landing I tried to lower the gear during that bad landing run. The result of first mistake was big shame and some repair jobs at Oshkosh, but not more than that. I think the effect of the second mistake was weakness of the two BID layers on the NG strut. On my landing at BGSF (Greenland) the wind was (if I recall correct) 12Kts tail wind. I also tried to land slower landing speed. All those reasons bring the broken strut. Yes, I didn't flox the NG15, but what I found on the ground that the four heads of the 1/4"screws was torn out from the screws. Than NG15 and opposite sandal become apart. >From that moment till my arrival to my parking spot, the runway works like a sanding paper. CONCLUSION- DON'T LAND NG up landing. If you insist, don't try to lower the gear before replacing the 4 screws at NG-5 If you insist on that, at least, don't forget to sand the strut and do the BID layers. and for sure, you have to belong to the COZY group which contain special folks. I'm really angry on that Icelander "spotter" which published his pictures disregarding the effect on my wife and the family and friends. He knew me personally, nothing was urgent to publish the picture. A week latter wouldn't be any big different. I like to say I was got helped from Ken Miller which gave me his strut, Steve Wight which did the connection between me and Ken miller. And to Todd Silver (the canopy manufacturer) that provide place and means to do the works. And pace to stay. Regards Yair Gil
  9. The left tyre is visible. The beige smoke is from the strut being ground down. There is a lot of smoke at the initial impact site, thereafter it gets less ... Me, I don't think it is photoshopped. But this is purely my own opionion. regards
  10. Now regarding the Jim Price Record ... I have yet to see an article. The FAI says it was an O-320 motor ... Pointers will be serverely appreciated, please! Chris Van Hoof ZU-CZZ
  11. Nah, you can't get there while you have a prop But "someone" mentioned it, so "one" has to see if it exists Testing: Not really, you can make the test program as interesting as you want ... 3 years and I'm still in it ... "they" are getting annoyed at our CAA, but then it's fun poking the dragon :-)
  12. While yours truly was up there, I also tried out to see how close the ASI could get to the supposed Mach Tuck number. Well, just after my level waiting, it became time to descend, so I reduced the Rpm of the motor to 1500 and pushed the nose down as much as I could handle. The descend stabilised at just on 3000fpm at which point the propeller was being pushed to 2650 Rpm. Since I don't believe in overspeeding the motor, I kept that angle - quite steep ... you are looking at the ground far away over the instrument panel! The indicated Airspeed got as high as 165 Kts and that was the most I could coax out of it ... then my ears started hurting real bad from the descend and the fun was out of it (for info the GPS showed 186Kt with a headwind of about 20 Kt or so at that level) The result was, I think, that unless you get rid of the propellor disk at the back of the plane, you may not see that high (Mach Tuck) Indicated Airspeed ever ... Your own results may vary
  13. How badly is it warped .. and how big is the biggest piece you have to cut from it, could you really see it over that piece?
  14. Sounds like you lot still "drive" to places get those planes flying
  15. My Softness said that she will park her car indoors! So by the time the strakes are on, you had better have the wings & canard hanging up, because space now becomes an issue in a 2 car set-up ... My plane is now flying and I still don't have that space back
  16. the standard facet puts out about 10" psi, which I think is sufficient to keep you going ... But I'll be looking for a new pump then too :-)
  17. Man, am I ever glad Nat Puffer did what he did and helped me to get what I wanted!!! Can't tell you people how much I appreciate my Cozy!
  18. So glad to hear ... of course I waited till it was time to work upside down
  19. "...I wanted something fast, sleek, and kick butt, drop your jaw on the tarmac when you see it aircraft..." Then the Cozy is your plane or similar design. Suggest you build something w 4 seats ... keeps the family together for longer
  20. My Cozy (ZU-CZZ) is all as per plans (excl the wingtip lights & The cowling fixing method). Hope that answers your question.
  21. Thanks for that info, unfortunately I can't update my earlier post
  22. OK, I have an IO-360 and none of the above. I used to crank that little faucet pump till it showed some pressure, but found that a waste of time, so now I just crank the moptor and it purges it as it starts Two blades max, when it's hot maybe 4 I don't have a return flowpipe ... I feel I'm missing something, you've got more equipment
  23. That's a neat installation ... what are all these pumps / valve set-up ... I'm worried, mine has none of that
  24. ZU-CZZ Cozy Mk IV Serial # 219 Empty 1195.7 lb IO-360 angle valve 70 x 80 Propeller Slick impulse magnetos
