  1. That is what I thought Chrissi meant at first, (blade offset from the mounting screw). However after visiting the Sonicrafter website they seem to show a blade just like the fein (ok, SHAPED like) the fein blades that will allow for a flush cut. Hey, and as a bonus it wont damage all those balloons you have randomly getting in the way in your workshop.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5MZB3lRAi8&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo%2Egoogle%2Ecom%2Fvideosearch%3Fhl%3Den%26q%3DRockwell%2BSonicrafter%26um%3D1%26ie%3DUTF%2D8%26ei%3DroXlSZXwMJvGtAPuyuWjBA&feature=player_embedded
  2. Pardon...... What exactly do you mean by recessed saw blade?

    Trim Problem

Is it not a little premature to suggest that this is a trim problem? Should not the more critical things be checked out first, for example:weight and ballance, canard incidence, elevator shape/gap/wieght etc? (OK, now I just see that Chrissi has covered all that and more....)
  4. Nose gear installation is nearly complete. Now I need to figure out what to do with the nose..... Hmmmmm.... More details at http://www.flyingbackward.blogspot.com/
  5. The TERF-CDs do contain the Roncz plans, however printing them to scale would be difficult. There are workarounds though.
  6. 100 days away. July 18-21. Here is the website: http://www.nweaa.org/
  7. I am crying here! Where were those back in November 07'??? Tempting to order a set, but oh to redo the main gear mounts now... They look very nice.
  8. Jeff. You should not use that template if you are installing the Roncz canard, particularly in light of the fact that you are using the offset weldments. The rounded area where the torque tube is will be far too large. That is what happened to me and I had to fit in a little foam piece to close the gap. Rather I think you should trial fit the canard with the elevators in place and remove what little foam and glass is necessary.
  9. One day fine day with my CFI I was cleared to land on a straight in approch at our tower controlled OLM. The guy in the tower forgot about us and cleared a bussiness jet for takeoff when we less than 1/4 mile final. The Jet started to pull out onto the runway and I was so busy concentrating on my final approch to understand what was happening. Fortunatly my instructor calmly reminded the tower and the other traffic that we were on short final. The jet stopped and we went around. Now if it wasn't for my instructor, both the controller, jet pilot and student (me) could have had a very bad day. The weather was great, the other pilot should have easily been able to see me just fine if he had been looking. That was a very good lesson to me in situational awarness and "see and avoid". Funnly thing is that I asked my instructor before the flight about go-around proceedures. I guess my point here is that without diligent attention in the pattern we all can get into trouble. I always take a second or third look before pulling out onto the runway regardless of what the controller has to say, and I look high and low on approch.
  10. Other the last few months I have been fiddling around with the canard. Finally I have decided to put it away for a while and start the nose gear and nose. Today I trial fitted the worm gear assy. ng-8 disks and ng-30 plates. I also cut, bent, welded and painted a crank. More to come when I order the nose gear strut, ng-6 and ng-15 castings. Cozy girrrl nose wheel is en rout.... Pictures of the progress at http://flyingbackward.blogspot.com/
  11. He could do both. There still might be some relatively undamaged areas left that could be made into a cutaway.
  12. Perhaps it would be helpful to clarify that to anodize and to treat with alodine are different. It is my understanding that all aluminum parts should be treated with alodine.
  13. Wicks also has a new "Stimulus Plan". They offer gift certificates on orders over a certain amount.... http://www.wicksaircraft.com/catalog/product_cat.php/subid=12097/index.html
  14. Most Likely, However I was ill that day and missed the game, so I cannot really say for sure what force caused that to happen. only some of us don't have that much body hair..
  15. Plant the airplane in the nearest river (or other emergency landing area) after you unexpectedly fly into birds knocking out power to both your engines and do so with no casualties. Then the tickets are on me. I sort of understand how the media attention can be annoying, however the pilots and crew did there jobs wonderfully and they deserve credit for their professionalism and grace under pressure. What really rather annoys me more is the folks that disregard the skill and training of the crew and choose to give all the credit to some supernatural forces called forth by the pleadings of the passengers.
  16. Yesterday I cracked open my latest can of ez-poxy hardener. It was quite a bit lighter in color, (light yellow as opposed the the dark brown). It also was not nearly as smelly as the darker hardener I have been using. It also came in a smaller 1/2 gallon can as opposed to the regular half filled 1 gallon can. Has anyone else happened across a lighter, ez-poxy hardener, or heard of any changes to the formulation? I used it to lay up the 4 plies bid on the inside of the NG-30s and it seemed to perform identically to the darker stuff.
  17. The bell crank cannot be installed with the pop rivet installed in the inboard most insert on the left elevator. It will become obvious if you install that pop rivet and then try to slide the bell crank into position. That the rivet would interfere with the bell crank installation did not occur to me until that moment arrived. I simply drilled off the head of the rivet, the bell crank should keep the insert in place.
  18. That's encouraging, so did mine (the first time) . Good luck with your second attempt. I really hate doing things twice, but I suppose it's better play it safe than to accept a part you are not confident with.
  19. Too late..... I am not quite sure why you did that, tip droop? I didn't get anything that I would consider drooping tips. Seems to me that the extra spar cap material will add some unnecessary weight. I am also a little curious as to why you are rebuilding your canard, what happened?
  20. Don't throw those chapters away. The Special performace canard (Roncz) plans do make a few references to those chapters. Read through the entire Roncz plans and CP changes before starting on the new canard.
  21. I am thinking that I will use some 1/8" stock I have lying around. They should add only a little more weight (probably still lighter than the washers called out in the plans, and I can use some of the thousands of rivets I have left over from the lift tab inserts.
  22. Got it. I will make a couple of aluminium plates. thanks.
  23. That is exactly what I did. I ordered the chapter kit and the inserts from the Girrls. As I see it I have two options, Order the smaller MK1000-4 nutplates, or fabricate a peice of aluminium large enough to work with my existing K1000-4s. I imagine this all sounds a little picky, I just want to do this as close to the plans as possible.
