  1. I am also a short hop south of Steve here in Olympia, if you come over to the cooler side of the state (ha ha) you can check out my Long-EZ project as well. I'll be filling in for you on the hotwire job since you can't make it.
  2. Having nearly finnished my fuselage, I think I would have to agree with Lynn. The majority of my time building has been on the little details like landing gear attachment, nose gear construction, canopy installation etc. The big parts like the fuselage sides and bottoms take a couple of weeks perhaps to layup and assemble. I cannot imagine that constructing a tubular frame and then attaching a composite or fiberglass/carbon skin to that structure would save time over the plans method.
  3. I am going to reitterate again my response to Marc. Marc's assumption that I somehow thought that the BRS was some sort of passive safety device, thus eliminating the need for pilot judgment is totaly incorrect. My question was with regards to the ultralight example that Marc mentioned. How he came to the conclusion that I somehow thought that a paracute was like an airbag and are somehow automatical depolyed is a mystery to me. For me, I will leave the BRS debate with the conclusion that they may be possible, however they are likely inpractical.
  4. I was refering to the ultralight pusher you said had a BRS tested. I was in no way impling that the incapacitated Long-EZ pilot was saved by the cute. And YES, I know that it isn't an airbag!!
  5. Ok then, did it work? Or, is there any reason to beleve that the BRS would not work with a Long-EZ? My bro just won't drop the subject and I just cannot think of a practical place to put such a device. I also cannot get rid of the mental image of the parachute and its rigging getting chopped up or tangled in the prop.
  6. O.K.... Couple of questions: The BRS appears to be mounted where the GIB's head would be. Is that aircraft now a one place aircraft? Had a BRS ever been tested, or used on a pusher aircraft like a Long-EZ or a Cozy?
  7. Thanks for the ammo. One of my brothers is convinced that I HAVE to have one (a BRS). I have explained some of the possible difficulties to him (where will I put it, what about the prop in back etc). He just will not budge.
  8. Here is a link from a Cozy driver on the yahoo groups that reviews the Dynon Autopilot. Sounds like he has nothing but good things to say... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canard-aviators/message/50571
  9. If you are asking me, no. I was there. For the life of me I can't imagine how I posted the wrong dates, the link to the Arlington site was right there too. Did the site have different dates and then change. Did I just hickup while I was typing. :(
  10. Oh #%&*!@!. I was off by a week when I posted that! I don't know how I had the wrong dates at the time. Perhaps the dates moved up a week, or I just brainfarted when I made the post.
  11. Congradulations, my first solo will be a day I will not forget (save for head injury etc).
  12. I am going up Friday and camping over until Saturday. Here is a link to the Yahoo canard group detailing some of the canard peoples plans... http://groups.yahoo.com/group/canard-aviators/message/50507
  13. Sounds like you are having a lot of fun. I look forward to the first few flights of mine even more when I hear success stories. Please keep us posted.
  14. Thanks, but I think I will take my chances with the urethane. It was fun shapping the nose and canopy frame, but not so fun that I would do it again. If you do come up to Arlington, i'll throw in the Pepsi for free, I understand the some of the local Olympia EAA folks will have an RV or two with ice you can keep it cool in.
  15. The internal rudder bellhorm plans are included on the terf CD. They are just not to scale.
  16. Yes it is. That is the first I have heard about duribility problems (cringe thinking there may be a CP mention of it). Still That doesn't supprise me as the stuff is quite crumbly. If I were to do this again I might consider another type of foam. Quite easy to shape though.
  17. Well today seems to be the day for Long-EZ builders to show there noses.... This weekend my brother assisted me with the shaping of my nose.... Perhaps because my real nose is already somewhat large, I don't feel the need to compensate with a really large aircraft nose. I did however extend the nose about 4" over what the plans call for, unfortunately this did not leave space to move the battery forward so this minor modification is really only cosmetic. I do like the way the nose shape is turning out. I just hope I don't have to kick myself later for not allowing for more forward weight. Of course there are more images and details on my blog http://www.flyingbackward.blogspot.com/
  18. Im neck and neck with you TMann. I have started shaping nose, canard cover and the canopy frame. Ill post progress details soon. Must keep working, I can't let you get to far ahead of me!
  19. That being said, perhaps you made a mistake by not buying them. Of course folks who make mistakes usually need e-racers.
  20. If that is correct then he has it mounted in the wrong location. As everyone knows, the ejecton seat button should be hidden inside the control stick (flip open top of stick and red button to eject).
  21. I like your solution also. Nice job on the covers. What is the silver knob aft of the pitch trim and throttle? Carb heat?
