  1. Not necessarily. Speaking as a motorcyclist, some hardley ridensom models use belts. Twin cylinder, plenty of vibes, 100k miles isn't unheard of. In fairness though, they aren't run at WOT 100% of the time. (though with the current 75MPH speed limits, maybe they are ) I think Buell runs (or ran) a belt too, Kawasaki on a model or two, am sure there's others. Road debris (rocks), and mis-alignment are their downfall. Rick

    Again?

Can't speak for TERF, but the 'shareware' Aerocanard PDF's are a scanned/OCR'd copy of Nat's Cozy-IV plans, almost to the letter. Unsure of the revision #, and some sketches are hosed. Rick

    Again?

I've got most of them locally (ch 1-26), PITA to upload/send all of them via 28k modem though (Ya, I'm building a go-fast plane on a 28k modem ) 37Mb, I could burn to CD and mail, or maybe someone else with a HIGH speed connection has them... Rick
  4. It's your plane, your build I flipped mine last week (?) and installed the brace and duct this week, it's still pretty flimsy sitting on the horses. I suppose if you could lock each tripod so that end will stay *perfectly* level, you'd be OK. Tack a board spanning the top longerons at the Canard cutout, and another close to the firewall, flip the thing onto two stacks of milk crates, two steel trash cans, etc. Check level before you do a step, shim with a sliver of cardboard, shim shingle, ... if needed. I could take/send a pix of my sawhorses, quickly foldable to ~3.25", easy/cheap to make. I've used them for years since 'retiring' as a Karpentur, quite sturdy, blah blah... Rick
  5. Gmail, and especially Yahoo! are using DKIM and/or DK to check the validity of incoming mail. If the message isn't signed, the sender will get a 'deferred' message. With Yahoo!, it's been a day or more for me, with Gmail, I suspect it just sits in their spool for a bit. Even so, any large forum could be flagged as a spammer by Yahoo or Gmail (the latter does read/analyze emails), given a number of similar email messages that are sent out in a given time period. The 500lb gorilla(s) speak.... Rick
  6. What fer? Cool avatar, new? Or have I been asleep at the wheel
  7. Wellll... If you order glass by the chapter, the first thing you'll do is cut the start of the BID 'roll' on the bias, and you'll have an additional triangle when you get to the end of the 'roll'. Wastage? Maybe. I don't recall a cut from my roll of BID at anything other that 45* to the edge. Could be wrong though, it's happened before... Rick
  8. Two people can keep a secret if one of them is ... Oh, never mind Don't be giving the posties a difficult time waiting for the plans, they'll be bringing more 'stuff' to build with down the road Rick
  9. I think I cut mine into five pieces. Glue any number of pieces together, make it look like the [final] picture. If you fear you're gonna bust up the IP foam handling it before it gets glassed, just cut the major holes out. Cut the smaller ones once it's glassed. Do make the IP a bit longer on the bottom, sanding the excess off is trivial to adding additional foam once it's done. Mine came out about 1/4" short at the OS edges, flush in the center. Sand/trim the angles at the bottom corners slightly large too, you can trim them to fit when you assemble the sides... easy. Cut the seat back map and heater duct slots narrow and short, trim to size in Ch 6. The LG bulkheads (F-22 doubler, F-28, and IP too) side edges will get trimmed to a slight angle when you get to installing them, the fuselage curves Yes, bookmark Tom Tugan's site. His links make it *real* easy to drill down to the chapter at hand. Rick
  10. Neither. Far as I can find, Wicks and ACS (and Hexcel?) are the only suppliers of plans UNI. Thayercraft.com sells a 50" wide BID "specially woven" for them. Suspect it's the same, but I wouldn't know, I'm not using that. Though I didn't get "certs" with the BID I bought (Wicks/ACS offer them for glass?) I have no doubt the stuff I bought was overstock or excess inventory 7725 F-16 volan factory boxed/sealed from Hexcel-Schwebel in 2003. Rick
  11. I bought fiberglass by the roll, there's some smoking deals out there if you look, and don't mind paying for a whole roll (or three ). I ordered foam (only) from Wicks, had them slice the larger sheets to fit in a 24"x48" box (cheaper ship), the larger sheets (H-45) are oversize as well as dimensional charged (read: $100). Edge gluing them back together is moot, I haven't had to (yet). I've enough sheet foam for the strakes chapter. If you can lump a few chapters together, ... The added cost is trivial, and the 'excess' can be stored under the bed or rafters. Rick
  12. Yes I can. It's called Allenspark, CO A bit generous (I mean liberal) to the east, it's quite nice otherwise. Punch in KLMO if you're curious about ridge uplifts and such I buzzed through the Adirondacks last summer on the scooter, two lane roads whenever possible. Drop dead beautiful country, but most everyone seemed in a daze, stand-offish, blank stare. Felt as if the norm was to lock my bike up every place I stopped, even if just for lunch at the local diner, a notion completely foreign to me. With IT, you should be able to base from anywhere, unless a site visit is needed. High speed internet (except at Casa Hall) is pretty universal. And given the Cozy (any canard actually) is a distance machine... Albuquerque area? Southern AZ? Helena? S. PA? Look at the climate zones for planting if weather is a concern. Some places in MT and ID aren't as cold as the news make them out to be. CO too. All three require an acceptance of firearms though. Except for Boulder... and Denver Rick
  13. Weird. Apparently Warrenn "Cozy" Buffett (sic) is best suited to Filer, ID or The Peoples Republik of Boulder. ID towns came in at four, MT at three, WY and CO with two. And Saranc Lake of all things. Rick

    TERF Cd.

Does it involve a tread mill conveyor belt? Current Wicks (I think) catalog has the encyclopedia CD's too. If you look real close, it appears "Terf" is printed on the bottom of the CD in the picture. I suspect they're the same, been wrong in the past though... RIck
  15. Minus 52. It's nice, no tourists. Rick
  16. Colorado isn't too bad, hangers are 'reasonable', snipped this from Yahoo! weather FYI: Current conditions as of 7:53 am MST Cloudy/Windy Feels Like: -52° Barometer: 29.29 in and rising Humidity: 72% Visibility: Unlimited Dewpoint: -20° Wind: WNW 70 mph Lots of opportunities to practice crosswind maneuvers... Wide Peel-ply

The fuse bottom skin (I'm almost there). If'n it were me, I'd cross cut several 4", 12", and maybe a few in the 36" range of strips off the roll, and store the full roll under the bed for later. If you're good with the bandsaw (I haven't tried on peel-ply), whack a 3-4" slice for BID tapes, and one more to make the roll fit your cabinet. If a peel-ply 'splice' is needed, you can always sand down the epoxy bump at the 'splice'. Gonna squirt with Zolatone or fill with micro at the finish stage anway. YMMV, FWIW, don't forget to floss after every meal. Rick
  18. ?? You think I got a $ tree out back? The H-9 has been called the "poor man's HID", I have no reason to doubt it. Won't approach a HID though. Generally the bigger the reflector, the better the output. Not in lumens/CP, rather beam pattern/spread. Both use DS3 bulbs. Since we're talking two housings in a nose, size might be important. Rick
  19. Back on topic, might also look at: http://www.rallylights.com/hella/50mm_modules.asp If they produce light like the 90mm M/C units I make (I didn't say I made them in public), you'd be burning retinas at 5000' on 35 watts each. FWIW, YMMV, Rallylights has one the lowest prices on Hella stuff from what I've checked. Yes I do buy from them, nothing more. Rick
  20. The $.95 MCU I'm using could be harnessed for a gear/canopy/throttle warning, based of front wheel RPM via a $.89 Hall sensor. Additional ASI or fuel pressure (MCU has a D to A converter). If there's a passenger int eh RH seat, is there enough weight in the ballast compartment. Is there weight in the ballast compartment, ... Whole host of doo-dads. BMA/Dynon, watch out! Rick
  21. I kinda do too, but LED's are poor for replacing the current flash tubes. FAR says lotta light for a brief period. Front pointed (focused, narrow beam) wig-wag would work, among other things, but 360* illumination like flash tubes do is quite a ways off. Err, your cell phone probably uses an LED for the flash, but it's limited life (10,000 flashes MTBF). Rick
  22. So you're the guy!I had the demo LED's... We finally meet I think about HID too, am leery if I decide to do a wig-wag setup, or of the initial burst of amps needed to start the arc. All probably moot, given cars seem to be OK. Except for wig-wag. Rick
  23. http://murpskits.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1_28&products_id=93 I'm running these on my M/C. Light years (bad pun) ahead of the OEM H-4 bulb and OEM reflector. The high beam easily lights up 2,500' down the road. More so for reflective signs... maybe a mile? These are 65w H-9 bulbs, though HID is an option, a high $ option. Slightly different housing for the HID's too, though one of those generic H9 to HID conversions may fit. Other than redundancy, might need only one light? Landing approach will be nose high, once the nose gear touches down... I dunnow. Then switch to wide pattern LED lights in the wing tips? FWIW, the H-9 unit with bulb, minus any wiring and the adjusters, is a hair over 9 oz. Rick
  24. Bring a snorkel! They walk, talk, sleep, phart canards; total immersion. Rick
  25. Were they fresh stock? I can't speak for all epoxies (especially MGS), but the hardeners I've used will take a brownish cast once opened. Couple of months to a year. Apparently (read: I've read) it makes little difference in cure. Rick
