  1. I have a gull wing door into the back seat of my CozyIV it is small but I can get my big Butt though it. Pictures of it are on my web site they are hard to find sorry I dont know how to do my own web site so I am using a freebee site and the chapters are not eze to find. STeve build on
  2. Saf: I am no Cozy III expert but I do know a few things about them. Almost all Longeze parts go on a cozy III except the canopy. It has the longeze motor mounts and landing gear and the spar and the wings are interchangeable. I like the motor mount system for the Cozy IV myself. I built a long and it was tough getting the Brock mount to fit properly. I think the 4 is built heavier for the extra weight it carries. A 3 is a over loaded Longeze So if you dont like flying over gross build a cozy Iv and make it a 2 seater it would not be very tough. Plans are available and there is lots of support on this and other sites. Personally I miss my Longeze You would fit in it I am not a lot smaller than you and I fit it fine. STeve build on
  3. The previous post proves that where there is a will there is a way. STeve build on
  4. I dont remeber where I saw it but it was a picture of a eze type being taken out the kitchen floor so they could get it out of the basement. That is what I call either dedication or really bad planning. STeve build on
  5. What do you think concrete saws were made for??? Steve build on
  6. Sounds to me like you almost want somebody to build you an airplane. There are a few out there who would do it. Steve build on
  7. cweiss: You want to build an airplane but you don't have any money??? How are you going to fly it when you are done? I doubt if anyone builds any cheaper than I do. I chase firewood all over the country to heat my shop, ebay is my main part supplier and I make all my own metal parts. My Longeze cost about $20,000 dollars to build back in the 80's when most of the materials were half what they are now. I have over $17,000 in my Cozy IV and it is not even finished with the structure still have to build the wings and the strakes and I dont even have any thing to put in the panel. Some guys build a lot of there plane in there kitchens and living rooms so You could start tomorrow unless you are homeless and if that is a issue I dont think you are ready for plane ownership. I am not trying to discourage just let you know the reality of this hobby it takes lots of green dollars to build and own an airplane. Cost of ownership runs about $70.00 and hour. So if you can afford it jump in if you cant think about a cheaper hobby. Maybe sailing small boats thats what I did when I was broke. STeve build on
  8. As long as that airport is getting federal dollars the faa tells them what the rules are. I think this guy is just trying to get press time for what ever reason. The Faa makes the rules at aiports not the politically motivated manager. STeve build on
  9. I would make sure what ever brake system you bought was capable of stopping your plane at full up gross weight. I have exsperience brake fade once in my old Longeze it was very disconserting to say the least. The controller at Chino asked me to turn off at the first turnoff and so I made the attempt even though I was obviously going to fast. I stomped on those old light weight cleveland brakes and starting slowing and then all of a sudden I was just not slowing anymore. I just took my feet out of the brakes and let the plane coast the whole length of the run way, by the time I got to the end the brakes worked again. No harm no foul. To say the least I dont do first turnoffs anymore and I bought tripple puck matco's for my Cozy IV. They are not the lightest brakes but I want to be able to stop when I want to stop. I would buy the lighter magnesium if they are equal on stopping power. STeve build on
  10. I did not start this thread to get anyone thinking about anymore government intervention in our hobby. We have lots of big brothers looking over our shoulders as it is. What I intended was to make a statement. Flying into house's with people in them is really bad form. It only takes a couple of dead residents in a housing tract to kill a nice little airport. If you have to crash do it on a road in a field in a parking lot but dont Kill somebody sleeping in there house. STeve build on
  11. Ed says: I also liked the Defiant. It does have some down sides and that is why I am building a Cozy IV. The defiant has 2 engines and burns lots of gas. It goes slower than a Cozy, It has a bit more room but not a lot. It takes a whole lot longer to build than a Cozy and it weighs a whole lot more. There is no builders support for the Defiant and the plans are hard to come by and very exspensive. Look into the Cozy IV except for the exspense and saftey of 2 motors it is more bang for your buck and you have a much better chance of completing the build. My .02 STeve build on
  12. I have a simple solution to lightining strikes in a small airplane. Dont fly in the area where there is a problem. Very easy solution STeve build on

    varie jet

I would say one big one in the back seat and your varieze becomes a single seater. With a fuel burn like that who can afford to have freinds fly along anyway??? STeve build on
  14. My 0235 Longeze did not have a starter so if I wanted to go flying I had to hand prop it. Bill Ortel taught me how. He came over to my house and worked like a demon to get it to start the first time after that it always started really easy. I plan on a starter for my 0360 but I will hand prop it also I do not know how hard it will be to pull through though. Get someone to teach you and it will be a skill you are always glad that you have. STeve build on
  15. Question:: Since when is a rotary auto conversion safer than a Lycoming?? I have yet to even see one fly regularly let alone safely??? STeve build on
  16. I have to agree with Chrissi on the Newbie thing. Like jTest I have gotten frustrated and told them off. Now I just ignore them and dont reply to there post's. I am not sure if that is the right thing to do but it does keep my blood pressure down. The one that really got me was the guy who wanted to paint his Longeze black. Maybe he lived at the s. pole??? STeve build on
  17. Having been in a plane with marc piloting he does a super job of "slipping" when a bit high. I used to do it in my Longeze all the time I could fly a lot tighter, higher paterns doing it. PS. Marc: How are you comming on getting your "MO JO" back to start working on your plane and get it flying??? I will be needing a check ride in a couple of years. Lets not let it drag on to long??? STeve STeve build on
  18. The Longeze was designed for the Lyc. 0235 the proto type had a C2c model in it. I flew in that plane once. My Longeze also had a 0235 c2c motor in it. I found it very economical. When I build my next Longeze I will put a 0320 in it probably a 150 hp. one so I can burn car gas in it if I can find any without alcohol. STeve build on
  19. You are my hero too. I wish I could afford to build that fast. I will not complain it will get done eventually. STeve build on
  20. Joe: That has got to be pretty darn cool to live that close to the airport and not have to put up with rich snotty neighbors who tell you what you can do on your own place. I bet the pheasant hunting is great in your neck of the woods. STeve build on
  21. Longeze's with 210 horse power are economical??? You might as well build a cozy and have some extra room. 210 horse power in a Longeze is defiantly not economical. Steve build on
  22. I saw this E-Racer on Ebay thought I would post the link so interested Canard people would know about it. If I had some extra money which I dont right now I would buy it. Could get Jack back in the air quick??? I am in no way involved in this project just sharing information http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/E-Racer-Canard-Airplane-Project-Moving-must-sell_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ280282915591QQsspagenameZRSSQ3aBQ3aSRCHQ3aUSQ3a101 Build on STeve
  23. Joe: The project is really comming along. Your place looks very similar to mine. I have a corn field on my west side too. I also have a John Deere Lawn mower. Did you build the plane in that garage in the picture? You keep it up and you could be flying by spring. STeve build on
  24. Why would anyone want to re register a set of used plans? For all the support in building that ACS gives???? I have seen several sets of plans for sale most in the 350-400 range. Nobody is going to pay new price for a set of early plans. Now if aircraft spruce quit selling plans like Burt the price would go up Look at the price of Longeze plans on the internet. I had no Idea that my old plans which I let go with the plane. (Stupid I know) Would be worth 600-1000 dollars. STeve build on
  25. You want a Longeze but dont want to build it. You have lots of money. Well do I have a deal for you. Send me a bunch of money. I like to build so I will build the parts you need. Then I can finish paying for my Cozy IV Simple deal. I built a Longeze worked on it every day it took 5 years. I also made 3 kids and had 2 job changes. I do not aggree life is to short to build and airplane I am on my second one and have 4 more planned before I write my bucket list. STeve build on Thought I should post a picture of the first plane in action.
