  1. With the cold temps last week in PA I wasn't able to get my Cozy started, was about 20 degrees overnight and about 30 when I tried to get it started. If I'm ever in a spot that doesn't have a place I can get a jump on the battery how safe/easy is it to hand prop this engine? There is a note on the ignition to only use the left mag when doing it, so I assume the builder did it at least once. Any advice on how to do this without maiming myself or worse? Obviously I need to have the nose gear retracted and the throttle at idle.
  2. Thanks! I've almost made it home. Landed in Lancaster PA, had a rain/snow cell blocking my way home and viz got really low. Conditions are supposed to improves so I'm gonna wait it out and check back with flight service in about an hour. Can't wait to get this thing on the ground at home base.
  3. I will certainly join those things, where do I go to do so? I bought the Cozy from Jay Tevis, N397CZ. I'll be keeping it at 47N (Central Jersey Airport) for the time being. Its real tough to get hanger space in the area so will be parking it tied down with a good cover while I'm waiting for space to open. I've seen conflicting reports about this being an OK thing to do... anyone have any suggestions for keeping it safe outside while I'm waiting for hanger space?
  4. Just wanted to say hello to everyone, just purchased a Cozy 3 and I'm actually in the process of ferrying it home from Oklahoma to New Jersey. Made it to VA and dropped the seller off and started heading north when I realized it was starting to get a little too dark for my liking in a new aircraft, so I'm staying over in Shenandoah, VA. I spent some time transitioning to the aircraft with the seller and feel pretty comfortable in it. Having no problems landing at the 5000 footers I've been using on the way home, a little nervous about bringing it into the 3500 foot home field, might feel like landing on a carrier deck at this point. Anyway just wanted to into myself and thank the people in the community that helped me get this far, you know who you are. -- Ian
  5. Hi, I'm Ian. Got my PPL in 02 but discontinued flying shortly after due to the hgih cost of renting and not being in the position to buy at that point in life. Recently got back in the saddle, finished a BFR and and have been renting 172s for fun and hours recently. I've been toying with the idea of buying a used Long-EZ, read a lot about the aircraft and I'm very excited about the notion of flying one. First question is, does any one know of any for sale in the NJ area or the NE in general? I've found a few on the west coast and mid-west but not around here. Any Long-EZ owners in my area? And where does everyone go to get insured on these experinental aircraft? I've been trying to get a quote on insurance to see what it would cost to own and so far AOPA won't cover a Long-EZ and Avemco will only give me liability, no airframe insurance. I have a call into EAA but have not heard back yet. Anyway thanks in advance for any help. Glad and excited to be part of the community. -- Ian
