  1. The Longeze was designed to have a mechanical and a electrical pump. I would not recommend that you remove either. I do not remeber if fuel will flow by gravity in a Longeze probably not that is why both fuel pumps are required. My .02 STeve build on
  2. Most of the time I have found that reading the plans solves most of my questions also. Steve Build on
  3. I made a mistake after reading my post it is not a rudder torque tube it is the aileron/ elevator torque tube. The plans size of map pocket was tall enough I could not slide it under the tube. I made it a 1/4" shorter it fit. Like my buddy edge I am hopeing that my cool thy supports I am in the process of making will hold all kinds of junk related to flying little airplanes really fast. 4. I have been doing 3 chapters at the same time 16-17-24 I found when I made the map pocket mold that goes on the side of the plane by your elbow. The plans size pocket hit on my rudder control torque tube. I have built this entirely to plans dimensions. I cannot find anywhere I might have gone wrong. What I am trying to say, to save a little time and epoxy is make the mold and slide it in place to see if it is close to the torque tube I cut my "new" one down 1/4" and it fits fine. Yes I made one completely before I found this out. Hopefully this is just a helpful suggestion. STeve build on
  5. I did not build a Ronz canard for my Longeze but I bet the Longeze is the same as the Cozy which means you need those washers. They fill up the space in the hinge area almost like a thrust bearing. STeve Build on
  6. Just curious why you are advertising for RV parts on a canard site. Rv guys have there own site. STeve
  7. I think the problem some have with the stock pin arrangment is that they leave their pins to long. The pins only have to be long enough to register the attatch point. My Longeze was stock had a fixed canard cover and it just took a good thump from my hand and it popped on or off. I do not have the cover installed on the Cozy IV but I am sure that it will come off easily. I did not want to add the weight and complexity of haveing to unbolt more bolts to take the canard off. When it comes time to finish and wire and work on the plane it comes off all the time. Simple and easy is the best. Build on STeve PS. Phil: If you are dead set on making it with a bolt I could make you the rods out of aluminum also. All it takes is a lathe and some time. STeve
  8. I build cheaper than most of the other builders. I bought 36 grit bandsander belts and cut them up with tin snips. Do your self a favor and buy a Fein tool. I bought mine on ebay it works great. I spent more on the cutters for it than I did the tool. Get some good Weis scissors hope I spelled that right you can cut wet out glass with them and then wipe them down it will take a couple of sharpenings to make it through a plane. I dont know how I made my first Longeze without the fein tool. They did not exist back then to my knowledge. Get a good bunch of varied size clamps you will use them all along the way. Get a signed document from your wife that says it is allright to build this plane and hang it up on the shop wall. When the wife complains point to the paper it helps. STeve build on
  9. Jim: Welcome to the addiction. It will be a life changing event building your very own plane. Build on STeve
  10. You can get anything you want if you have lots of money and let the right people know. It is the cheap stuff that is hard to find. I see jet motors for sale all the time on different sites. Barnstormers, ebay, local aviation sites. Advertise and let people know you are looking and that you have cash they will find. you. STeve build on
  11. Joe: It looks nice and shiny. Will you be able to fly it next week? Thanks for the picture. STeve build on
  12. Good luck Joe on the paint job. Take a picture and let us see the results I am curious. STeve Build on
  13. Well it is time for another update. My plane now has a heart and a soul. The heart is a Lycoming 0360 C2C Out of a Bi Winger. Its soul is that it now has a name. N232CZ My old Longeze was 232SH so it will be close. Here are a couple of pictures of me stripping accessories off the motor and pickling it for a while. It will reside under my construction table until I am ready to install it. Build on STeve
  14. Rick: Traveling home with the wire was a non event. I checked the bag and it was at my home destination when I arrived. I am now playing with my new motor. STeve build on
  15. Rick: I learned a valuable lesson this year at RR dont put your tent close to people having such a good time. Especially a good time late at night. That is if you dont want to wake up in the middle of the night. STeve Build on
  16. I have bad news for you infinity gear lovers. Rough river had 0 infinity gear on planes that I saw and several with drybread style. Non of them tipped over or had trouble landing. Of course to get a pair of drybread retracts could be a long wait??? nobody is making them. Oh I forgot the answer is to put in retracts or vacum bag. Build on STeve
  17. Well I am off I drive 3 1/2 hours to Salt Lake City to get a ride in an aluminum tube that goes 500 mph will arrive at Louisville at 10:20 tonight drive down to RR in my rental econo box. I am the guy in the camo Cat Hat. Lets all be safe getting there. STeve Build on
  18. Rick: I am getting in pretty late thursday night into Louisville. If I can find someplace open I will get some water and some soda's Steve build on
  19. This makes me think a bit. Lynn I aggree I think I will use stainless rod. If my memory serves me I used 3/8" rod for the aileron balance weights on my Longeze. With out running out to the shop to check my plans the cozy IV uses 7/16" rod I thought the wings were the same on these birds??? What am I missing? STeve build on
  20. Go to any store that sells steel I am sure they have several in your area. Buy cold roll it has a better finish than hot rolled. You do not need 4130 steel to balance ailerons. It is just the weight that you are after. The weights do not add structure so there is no need for more exspensive 4130 rod. STeve build on
  21. I have a 0360 and I did not pay big bucks for it. You just have to look around be patient and be willing to do your own work on it. Build on STeve
  22. Edge: I think that is your answer make them removable so that when you need the extra fuel put them on. When you dont you can fly around on the short hops looking like a regular cozy IV. Just a thought. Build on STeve
  23. I cant imagine what will happen when those mamilar exstensions on Dicks plan get old. The are long enough to drag on the ground. That is really going to hurt the take off role:D Build on STeve
  24. BillP wrote: You sound like I did before I started working on this project. The solution to this depression is to send acs $500.00 and they will send you a set of plans and then you can send them a whole lot more money and you can be as dusty as the rest of us. Who wants to work on the house the yard or honey do projects when you have a real life airplane to sand on. STeve build on
  25. Edge: If you have a 5 hour bladder why do you need 7 hours of fuel? Seems like a lot of work. Just for longer time in the air. I am not real jazzed with the look either. Every thing else on your plane is super snarky. Then you add those radar domes to it and make it look like its been to a bad doctor and had breast implants for a Japanese movie monster.
