  1. How about that. Sounds like your project is coming along Tom, so is mine. Jack
  2. I like it alot. Hope it flies as well as it looks. Keep us informed on the flight tests of the model AC. Really like the blended winglets. Jack E Racer Extreme
  3. No , I did not lengthen my fuselage, hence the ballast. The prototype E racer had a buick v8, approximately 225 hp and had a top speed of 240 mph. I believe the gross weight was increased to 2000 lbs. The E Racer also used the roncz canard. My new E racer is a foot longer in the nose and with the batteries moved forward a foot, I might not need ballast, time will tell. I am hoping my new AC will come in quite abit lighter than my last one. Jack
  4. Chris I had an E Racer and the wing/canard was the same as the LE except the trailing edge was straight and there is 25% more wing spar caps and canard spar caps. The vne on the E racer was 300 mph, I had mine to 291 mph T at 10,000. My AC was a very heavy version of the E Racer. The stock MGW was 2000 lbs with a 0320 or small alumunum buick v8. I installed a 360 hp supercharged IO540 with extra fuel and tested it to 2240 lbs, take off weight only. That weight was with 370 lbs, pilot/pass, 69 gal of fuel and about 20 lbs of baggage. That weight also included 25 lbs of nose ballast weight to offset the heavy engine. I know these numbers are most likely of no value for what you are looking for but I thought you might be interested. Jack E Racer Extreme
  5. Thanks Steve but I am already in the process of building a new E Racer with a few mods. Should have it flying in the spring. Jack E Racer Extreme
  6. Looking great Joe, takes a lot of patience and hard work. Keep it going. Jack E Racer Extreme
  7. Your right on everything Tom. Have to work on them consistantly. I built my E Racer from start to first flight in 18 months, plus working a full time job. I also took off 60 days to help a friend bubble and paint a Cozy 4 in between. It can be done, total dedication to work rules. Jack E Racer Extreme
  8. Aluminum, Aluminum, not all that hard. Jack
  9. It also looks like it is all alunimum. Jack
  10. Phil I thought you might like this one. You ever price a complete German auto engine, way out of line. I'm keeping my Lyc only going NA to improve fuel burn. Amazing there is very little damage to the engine under the circustances. My new E Racer is coming along great, should have it in the air next spring. Jack
  11. Brett , Elizabeth Very sorry to here of your incident. Glad to see both of you are OK, and Nice flying Elizabeth. Jack E Racer Extreme
  12. Hi Wayne Beautiful, sure hopes it cools as good as it looks. Fantastic workmanship. Jack E-Racer Extreme = getting there.
  13. Sorry guy's thats hotmail, not hormail Jack
  14. afremic@hormail.com sent it to me. Title- Homebuilt crash at Nevada brings call for ban. Photo of my E Racer taken in 2000 by the EAA. The gentelmans name is Tony Remick. He contacted me last year about getting a long EZ and I believe he now ownes one. Jack E Racer Extreme
  15. Just saw an updated report on the accident at N las Vegas, it shows a photo of my E Racer taken at a photo shoot with the EAA attached. What the heck is going on with those people. Jack E Racer Extreme
  16. Hey Joe Use what you are used to. Conventional guns work just fine, just more overspray but not a problem. HVLP guns are also very good if you want to spend the dollars for a good one, the cheap ones are crap. I sprayed with all kinds of guns and still like the devillbis with a 30 head. binks 7 is also a very good gun for your project. As far as final sanding, 320 wet or dry is great, use a epoxy white sealer and paint . I prefer PPG products. If you have any questions, call me and I will give you some product numbers. 18. I can post some information on the supercharger subject, let me know where you would like it posted. Jack E Racer Extreme
  19. I beleive that Shirl designed the E racer before Nat designed the Cozy three. It is a widened longez with retractable gear. The E racer is the same width as the Cozy 4. My E racer had a chev V6, supercharged 300 hp engine in the mid location, mark1. Let me put it this way, had the chev engine caught on fire in the mark 1 location, I would for sure not be writeing this post. The engine behind the firewall , mark 11 version, saved my bacon. Fuel burn is all about HP and high speed. Above 200 kts, it comes at a high price. Jack
  20. My E Rarcer had a sefio540 lycoming 360 hp. Had to put 25 lbs in the nose at -5, had two 27 lb batteries in the nose, and had to carry a 25lb lead weight in the cock-pit for proper cg. I cruised at 250 mph, not 250 kts and had a fuel burn of 20.3 gph. That is about 12 mpg. My best top speed was 291 mph at 10k, that is 253 kts. My fuel burn at that speed, 2980 rpm with a 66/103 prop, burned about 26 gph. My engine with the supercharger, electronic wastegate and TSIO cylinder heads and excessories weighed in at about 500 lbs. Jack
  21. Any one looking for a Cozy 4 tinted canopy in the midwest, I have a Todd canopy still in the shipping box. Todd is making a new one for my E racer. Jack Morrison cell (630) 688-1295 home (630) 907-2040 email n345jm@gmail.com.
  22. I had an E Racer with a FHC. Had the j hooks with a pull down at the back of the canopy. Held the front and rear of the canopy secure but above 200 kts it would lift in the center. Added two center pull down latches and worked fine except it was just another procedure to do. I had a front cover seperate and put a large scratch in the canopy and took 5 inches off my new prop. Decided to use a Cozy 4 canopy to replace the narrower E racer canopy. What I did was when I was setting the new canopy in place, I put a 1/4 inch block on the longeron on both sides at the rear most position, pulled the center pull down latches as installed. This bowed the glass frame slightly down in the center. After glassing the lens to the frame and let cure the canopy lens and frame had a slightly center down bow to it. After this was complete and flying, I no longer needed the center latches, have never lifted after that no matter what the speed or OT. Just my 2Cts Jack E Racer Extreme
  23. Tom: Thats all I can use with the setup I have. I was talking to an engineer today as to what would cause the two hose nuts to come loose. He summized that the steel nut on the firewall side had come lose after all this time and as soon as the steel on steel nut came loose and started the fire in the engine compartment, the fitting heated up and the fuel line nut in the cockpit side which was aluminum, expanded and came loose also, spraying fuel into the cockpit. After the engine lost all power, it was less than 5 -6 seconds when the fire started in the cockpit , and not just a small flame. Jack
