  1. John, the way you got the info out of the files is the best way, read all of them. I got some REALLY good tips from the listserve. Among them set spar .2 tenths degree forward, when wing is attached, no washers needed, the backward weight of the wing levels off the .2 forward install, BTW worked great our wings are 0.0 with the spar originally set out of level flanges for fuel tank tops, we added the 45 degree light weight ones in the front, the others were from the list. There were more, when i recieved one that i thought was particularly good, i would email it to my partner and he would keep track of them and remind us to use them as needed. The problem is, as i stated before, searches will not reveal these little secrets, you don't know the question, so you can't find the answer. The same thing is happenning here and it should be corrected. If i have a tool and can't find it, i don't own it. If we have info spread all over the forum, unless you read everything, you won't know it. enjoy the build dust
  2. I gotta say, when i started this thread i did not realize the religeous impact it would have and love your bother/sister builder wether they weigh oir pump. he he he enjoy the build dust
  3. john, didn't you down load all of the zetlins archives and read them before you started? enjoy the build dust
  4. Well said, I started the thread "modifications" just for people like rising to see how little MOST people deviate from the plans. On the canopy, that chapter is a loooooong way away, you may or may not still be motivated to change it, it don't matter at this time. As you know, slade is the read ahead kind, i am not, it doesn't matter, just don't let it stop you from building, be part of the 20% enjoy the build Dust
  5. No need to insult all of us pump users, just because you have decided to use a scale. enjoy the build dust
  6. there was a thread somewhere on this forum about a builder that found huge blocks of the wing foam, at a large reduction in price and even went so far as to have it tested for compliance, can't find the thread enjoy the build dust
  7. Well, i am just working the problem backwards, if you know the total weight of a small batch, you then know what the individual hardener and resin must weigh, and then the mfg specs will tell you how much you can be off and that will tell you the minimum accuracy needed. enjoy the build dust
  8. Well joe, on plane day this weekend, i'll take out our scale and measure how much 8 pumps weigh and how much 1 pump weighs and that would be about the range you need, any pumpers out there that can do that for rising spirit before sunday, he is just burning up with a fever to buy this scale, i mean his friend is. hows the "fir" firewall coming? enjoy the build dust
  9. lah de dah, lah de dah, anything going on here, well, myswell leave nothin happening, don't see or hear anything enjoy the build dust
  10. Nat was not happy with this engine, he put a 220 hp prop on it and it didn't have the power to drive it, changed to the lycoming 180 hp prop he had and it worked, but, he didn't get the same speed as with the lycoming. I THINK i know why, if you look into old franklin manuals, you may find that the 220 hp rpm amount is quite a bit higher than a lycoming. it may be in the 3600 or so range. I would do some research and size my prop accordingly to make the rated hp of this set up. but please don't rely on my friends memory, it was a long time ago when he was in the service. enjoy the build dust

    slades right

johnny you are right. The engine and instruments are not unique to the cozy airplane, they are for all planes, for that reason, my design and build and etc and etc will be posted at http://www.homebuiltairplanes.com I hope that all interested check it out as single posting is hard enough and i am not the man john is, i just can't handle maintaining multiple forums, like he does. enjoy the build dust OH, don't worry, i'll still be here and probably post even more than ever, he he he
  12. i have some great 36 grit to repay you with enjoy the build dust
  13. on the home depot blue foam, you can use it if it is exacttly the same chemical composition and density as the plans specofoed foam. if you wish to do this just go to home depot and find a broken sheet and pick up a scrap from the floor, there are usually some on the sides on the floor, find a testing lab and send it in, then email or pm me the name and address of the testing lab and i will send them the appropiate scrape. When the results are in, whalla, you have cheep foam. always willing to help enjoy the build, sell that damn cessna so you have the cash for the cozy and of course enjoy the build dust
  14. go ahead with the birch, just write "fir" on it and the plane will be fooled enjoy the build dust
  15. asked dave at wentworth today lycomings midtime carburated 12,000's mid time fuel injected 14,000's mid time continental, he he he 7,000's i believe this comes with the starters/alternators vac pump, injection system etc They also come with logs and a gaurentee, ask them for details you know for the "other" person on this forum not going rotary or VW diesel enjoy the build
  16. Can't decide on wether to use a pump or a scale enjoy the BUILD Dust
  17. I think after seeing the amount slader has spent on AN fitings i think that going used is not a bad idea. When i got mine they were a little dirty, so a quick bath in mineral spirits fixed that up, dey lookin like new. We are still buyin plenty of new but a healthy supplement of used can reduce costs and time, as they are sitting on the shelf, not in the catologue, go to a local airplane salvage company, they love selling this stuff, have it by the barrel full enjoy the build Dust
  18. 5 1/2 years no leaks, every two or so years, check calibration, perfecto. reliability is not a problem with our pump enjoy the mixing Dust, not the imposter, building spirit, he he he
  19. those in attendence mike forum and builder/graduate well, slader it's your fault we had to redo the spar attaching today, you posted that you took a step backward and the gods of cozy building made us take one too. Actually it is robin and cliffords fault, they did not allow us to follow the directions clearly stated in the plans. For those of you who don't know the directions on setting the spar into the fuselodge, nat clearly states that you must TIE up the dog, well, they won't let me bring the dog to plane day and we had no dog to tie up, hence the spar moved during the week and we had to cut the right side loose, a real fun job, and reset it. So, a warning to all those building, get a dog before you do this, you have to follow the directions, all of them or the plane doesn't work. And note, it doesn't say puppy, it says dog, so that if you don't have one now and don't feel you can borrow one when the time comes, for gods sake go get a puppy now so that you are prepared. Other than that, mike mplafleur is now a graduate, he has done it all now and i am going to form a branding iron this week for use at the slave graduation program and we will formally brand him a "master". enjoy the build Dust

    flying high

Great talk with my tech advisor, brought him up to date on my engine and the mods i plan to do, he loved it. He also said that in his long he regularly flies at 19000 and indicates 110 mph and his tootsies are coooooold enjoy the build Dust
  21. welllllllll, talked to my tech advisor yesterday and he may make a "minor" change to his lycoming for his next try. He may put 28:1 compression pistons in his lycoming. Keep the 8:1 ratio at sea level and increas the amound of air available at altitude to keep HP, instead of using a turbo interesting thought enjoy the build Dust
  22. That might be temperfoam, the top cushy layer we need for our seats, and it might a good price, we also need two other densities for comfort and real shock absorbing For those of you who don't know, the cozy seats are not "sprung" no springs to absorb landing or turbulence, they are made from three densities of temperfoam, very dense, medium dence and cushy. they are great, but the foam is very expensive, so this may be a good price for the cushy stuff enjoy the build dust

    Administration

OK, so what if the explainations/ pictures, referred to are on a website that no longer is on the web, then we lose all of the info. if it is here, it is here enjoy the build dust
  24. what i imagined for this thread is for builders and especially flyers to list thier mods Soooooooooo that newbes could see that most don't do much and that changes are not really needed enjoy the build dust
  25. Same, nose heavy the mod was his suggestion, don't blame you for calling me out on this one, you should have and did enjoy the build dust
