  1. One simply has to acheive the temps for ignition. A intake heater, glow plug, blower/turbo, then go boom. High compression rotors? I would think Jet-A as a fuel source...........then metering the fuel correctly. (Hey, I could toss my ecm and not sigh if the alternator puked!)
  2. somehow I am #1 on the "waiting list" for a cabin, lodge, or whatever those folks decide to offer..........if. I missed it last year but, looking forward to stay the weekend.
  3. ANYONE REMEMBER THE TERM,"hit any key to continue"?...............
  4. "A paved airpark home" hummm.......even I would go for that! Birthday girl, have a few for me:D
  5. OK.....looks like you endured the drama I wanted to prevent. Thanks for the advise, and I think I will order a little extra just to be on the safe side.
  6. Yeah, I was somehow reluctant in ordering the 80 yards I did, thinking I might be a tad shy:(
  7. with the 3" spar cap tape, how many yards do you think you ended up using on the main spar?
  8. True........dc power will break, what we need is a true chemical seperationprocess.........down the "A" stoff, "b" stoff, "C" stoff line
  9. I guess what we are waiting for here is for the alchemists to figure out a way break the oxygen and hydrogen atoms contained in water??? Do this.....earth is covered by 2/3rd's in fuel potential
  10. I think the strength's of the rotary are appreciated most by their enthusiasts. Loss of coolant, no problem, fly her home and hopefully do a low budget overhaul. There are no inherant weaknesses in the crank, and certainly no connecting rods to grenade. Gee wiz, they are both going down with loss of ignition signal.........both going down with loss of fuel pressure........valve train will not be a problem on the rotary, but perhaps a lyc closing in on overhaul time. No redrive problems with a lycoming, potential that is. Most of us know a rotary manufactors a lot of heat, dealing with it can be challenging. Maybe the costs involved in overhauling a lycoming are what rotary folks like most about their mazdaratti's? Simplicity, ease of overhaul, yes, strong points...........personally, and although I am a strong rotary enthusiast, if I had to restart either in flight, it would be the lycoming. (trying to be honest here) My choice to use a rotary lies half in economics, half in knowing there will always be those who will be critical. If it performs in the mission my aircraft was built for, it can't be bad.
  11. rotaries are worth looking into. You get the power for far fewer yen than certified sixes, yes there is the redrive and tracy can help you with that one. You can stack up a lycoming and a rotary and talk all day long about the pro's and con's, in the end, the mazdaratti will give you the hp with fewer operational costs and yes, mogas folks.
  12. this is good idea...........but I thought he was budgeting expenses, it will eventually take around 18
  13. 15 gallons is what it is supposed to take if you don't have to "re-do" anything. I am sure there are those whom are satisfied with their initial work on everything, but if you bought 18 you would not be disappointed.
  14. I am certainly interested, for the time being, in your cnc canard foam products. How may I place an order with you? I have made some hand cuts which look pretty good but, naturally would prefer to glass something on the order of "precision". The canard you cut is the 1145 correct?
  15. how much for the canard cores complete?
  16. I am a roadway machinist for a class 1 railroad. Involved in program logic repair, heavy hydraulics, welding fab, the whole gambit. It starts around six in the morning and often lasts until 8:30 at night, four days a week. I fly/or drive, depending on proximity to jobsite each week........gives the geese some competition in the migration game.
  17. the dark areas are probably excessive amounts of epoxy
  18. chances are that this gentleman (or lady for that matter) used ez poxy and the discolorations are from using slurry. ( when you mix micro baloons together with epoxy for joining the foam) This is my thought............and I could be wrong, but it is quite plausible.
  19. Thought I would throw this out there...........looking for stock Berkut canopy hinges.............I need two.
  20. I just received a berkut canopy for my modified ez project today. The workmanship is superior, hats off to Todd's canopies for their fine work. I received it in one piece which fufills my option of making it a 60/40 or 50/50 split. I opted for the smoke grey tint, always helpful in the bright sun. I too search for the berkut canopy hinges, some have to be floating around out there..perhaps sitting on the shelf of someone whom went in another direction? ;) If anyone has a line of these, I would appreciate a nod!!!
  21. john, I took roughly 90 pics, if you want them, send me an e mail address and I will gladly cybertoss them to you:cool:
  22. Given the unvented fever at which my state, Indiana, is pursuing bio-diesel manufactoring.............it would seem that this alternative fuel will undoubtedly become much more available in the short term. Two new plants have been announced in the past couple months, one being only sixty miles from me. Are we ready for aviation diesels? ( way past ready) Like many point out, the economics are pretty simple for those of us whom like to fly. Will they ever become "the" alternative engine? (most likely) What do I think of the V10? More moving parts, more chance of failure, yet I applaud all whom go for it. :D
  23. aircraft extras, inc...........just ordered a berkut tinted canopy for my project, they are a little thicker than previous canopies but are optically perfect! Look, if you bust one installing it, they will send you one to replace it free, cant beat it.
  24. remember, mods can be applied easilly to the ez, wider and longer have been done many times, but I have to say that the cozy has a more utilitarian flare than does the ez;)
  25. Agreed! I don't anticipate the broiler- like conditions which endured up at OSH this year. I live less than 75 miles from rough and the weather around here has been swell, upper 50's at night and lower 80's in the daytime. Looking forward:cool:
