  1. I would definitely not attach the spar until we move home. There's just so many uncertainties, I'd hate to ship it home half done. That's why I'm leaning away from the spar or canard. If I get the controls system half installed and have to ship, no big deal.
  2. I have considered it as well. It would kind of be like the canard. If it was done & packed well, the it would probably ship fine. But shipping the jig with a half finished spar would probably be an issue. I appreciate the feedback.
  3. I'm considering working the next few chapters out of order, so bear with me for a sec. I'm currently working through Chapter 7. I have most of the supplies for CH8 & CH9. I didn't order in the landing gear hoop. It's rather expensive and heavy. I couldn't see spending all that money (GST & shipping) to import it. I plan to work on it once I ship the project home. At the current rate I think I'll have up to CH9 completed in another few months. So.... I'm contemplating my next order. I figure since ASS typically offers a discount during OSH, that I might as well order some more stuff. First Thought... My main concern is shipping the project home, both the state of construction and size. I really don't want to have a chapter partially completed then have to ship it home. For example, I don't thinking shipping a half completed canard would be a good idea. Another thought... I think Chrissi recommend to do all the internal fairing, covers, and systems while the tub is on the rotisserie. It's a lot easier than working over the strakes and on your knees inside the tub. The next chapter would usually be the canard and then the nose. But for my next order, I'm considering working on CH 16 (controls) & CH 24(Covers & Fairings). That should add on another 100 hours or so that should take me through my assignment here. So my long-winded question is does this sound reasonable? Any foreseen problems to working out of order?
  4. How and what type of antenna should be installed for the new 406mz ELT? I don't see any reason for me to install the old 121.5.
  5. If you trying to find more information on NACA shapes and sizes. Bferrell has a fantastic website with some great XLS modelling. Brett, you website & wiki are awsome. http://wiki.velocityxl.com/index.php?title=Documents#NACA_Ducts
  6. I have no bloody accent. Get stuffed mate.
  7. Me on my own show? Forget it, I want to fly someday. The actual routing probably only took 30 minutes. But because I filmed it, it took an entire evening. Then probably another 6 hours to edit. It's not a good way to make progress on my plane. I figure a couple of these a year is not going to set me back too far. They're kind of fun to make.
  8. If you're an EAA member, log in and download this old article. http://members.eaa.org/home/saarchive/eaa_articles/013583.pdf December 1991 I stuck with the plans version.
  9. Sure, it could be added. Some routers have attachments included. I just wanted to keep the jig simple and cheep.
  10. Jerry, What's the quick change feature?
  11. I didn't like the idea of hand sanding the NACA inlet foam flat. So I built a simple jig and leveled it with a router. There's a video on my website showing the technique. It's 4 minutes and about 10 meg. http://www.cozy1200.com/geeklog/article.php?story=LevelRouter or http://tinyurl.com/5dttbr
  12. Currently at $117. May be a good deal http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180261430997&ssPageName=ADME:B:DBS:US:1123
  13. Adrian, I know it's off topic, but when are you going to add Cozy Builder to your resume?
  14. Gee, I don't know. I've been drinking too much. Sounds like you've joined me! ha ha Seriously I don't drink hardly at all, but Spodman makes a nice home-brew that he brings over. I harass him about it all the time. I think it was something drinking his SpodGrog.
  15. I too have insurance lic, but haven't used it in about 4 years. There was a line in our contracts that said something like: "Do you currently or in the next two years plan to.... ...fly in GA airplanes" I don't think is was a deal killer, but it probably doubled the premiums. So right in line with what Marc's saying. Granted there can be some tax benifects to investing in whole life, but I would avoid it. I was a captive agent. I would a agree, it works in the insurance companies advantage, not yours. Agents are pushed HEAVILY to sell whole life. And there is HUGE commissions. You mean I wasn't working for the best Insurance company and the rest of the industry was crap. ha! HA! Zig Zigler once said he's never met a widely successfully salesmen that wasn't a little sick in believing their product was absolutely the best on the market. Seriously I've learn more since getting out of that business. I now working for the best submersible electric motor manufacture in the world!
  16. Jack, It's sad to here you write about your plane in the past tense.
  17. I just bought some more stuff for my Fein. It hasn't come in yet, but here's what I bought. new Triangle sanding pad and sandpaper finger sanding pad and sandpaper carbide triangle Rasp Mini Cut and File Set Online I've check spruce and wicks, but they didn't have the best selection. http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/ has a good selection http://coastaltool.com/ has better pricing yet http://www.Amazon.com was slightly better priced than coastal tool, but doesn't always have the entire line. I ultimalty ordered through Amazon. happy shopping
  18. I like it. Much easier to glass the outside of the plug versus the inside of the depression.
  19. Thanks Bruce. Let's get a ballpark idea of who all is interested, then we'll start banging out the details.
  20. G’day Mates! How about we have our own Canard Party here in Australia? We can’t let Rough River dominant the canard fly-in market. I know there are several of us here in the Melbourne area that have talked about this before. I think it’s time we get together and do what pilots do best. So who’s up for it? What about Locations? I can host it at my place if anyone wants to see my plane. Probably the best option is the restaurant at Moorabbin. Let get some feedback and some possible dates.
  21. Steve, That freezing idea isn't too bad. I too try to conserve it. Last night I only made 1/2 a squirt for a super small flox job. For anything under two squirts I now use disposable plastic cups. They're cheaper and easier to mix. But sometimes you do end up with too much left. I've read similar suggestions before about using left over epoxy to start the fill process. I have reservations or at least questions. Here my thoughts. Micro can vary so much in consistency between batches. Also when it cures, it sweats so it's shinny and needs to be scuffed before more is added. My thinking is that with all the smaller batches that it may end up with a hodgepodge of harder & softer micro with lots of joints. That may cause some troubling during finishing. Like trying to sanding a nice transition between two different types of foam. I can't say my concerns are valid, but unknown. I'm all for conserving epoxy. It's over $200 a gallons here in OZ.
  22. Melting or fusing is the proper way to prevent a nylon rope from unraveling. Now just the end should be fused. If it was fused after the splice was done, then the rope may have been weakened
  23. oh, boy the good old Eye-Splice. That's one of the early skills I learned during my scouting days. It was quite enjoyable to see one come together. It's been 15 years since I've done one. If I recall correctly, any knot in a rope will weaken it. A splice will still weaken it, but it's significatly stronger than the knot. looks to me that the rope was just plane worn out. btw, I was speaking Knot not Naut.
