  1. I just read the part about no starter on the motor... I'm not going without a starter!
  2. That's what I thought. Thanks John.
  3. Okay... since there's no Ch. 3 in the chapter specific sections, I'll ask this here! Everyone was raving about the MGS epoxy system, and it is recommended in the plans. But the plans also say to only use the Safe-T epoxy or RAE for mixing with dry micro... is this correct or is this an older section of the plans that haven't been updated? Any Cons about using the MGS? Thanks!
  4. Here's a picture... http://www.microsoft.com/traincert/mcp/success/peters.asp Yep, I was all the way back in the corner. I was the one who took the Mag Light from the MGS guy. Uh oh... forgot to post an MGS question.
  5. I think I remember someone saying "just bought an epoxy pump." But people around me were talking during the intro's so I don't remember who said that. I was the second introduction. I said I'm on Chapter 1 page 1, everyone clapped politely, then I thanked Nat for his patience while I asked a bunch of crazy questions for 8 months while I did the research. I was sitting all the way in the corner. I brought my father since my wife was in Ohio. Ring any bells?
  6. Well... I made it in nothing resembling 9 hours. 13 to be exact. It seems that Nordstroms in Indianapolis was a "do not miss". 6 trucks didn't play nice somewhere between Indy and Chicago. Chicago traffic was a zoo after that... and after realizing I brought no cash with me... it took every coin lost between every cusion in the car to get through Chicago toll roads. Oh... and I shredded a tire somewhere north of Chicago! (I dislike Continental Tires the way John Slade dislikes A.S.& S.) But I did make it, bought plans #1176, saw Dust (Dust I hope you know I was kidding about the Yugo powered Cozy... you looked at me like I sprouted a new head! ), never saw Dust again, went to the Cozy dinner, drove home. I drove home in nothing resembling 9 hours. Discovered that the projected mileage of 650 from Atlanta to Oshkosh foretold by Mapquest was air miles. Sheese.
  7. When I was in sales I drove to different cities on a fairly regular basis. I won't say how fast, but it is somewhere between polite warning and go directly to jail speeds. My favorite run was 10 hours from Atlanta to Houston... this was before the speed limit was raised from 55mph. ('84 MB AMG 1000SEC) Attempting to stay out of trouble takes general awareness and a whole lot of neat technology. But every 5 years or so I walk away with a duesy of a yellow slip. I don't complain though. I've had two warnings for speeds that my friends refuse to believe. What scares me now is that I'm 2 years over-due for my next ticket. I really need a plane.
  8. That's why I need an airplane... ground authorities are a little antiquated in their thinking about proper maintainable velocities. Detroit is in a different direction so hours won't add up for Chattanooga to Oshkosh. Plus you have that big blue blob on the map to drive south of coming from Detroit.
  9. I'll be the silver Audi with all the bugs (and maybe a few bats) on the front. (Notice that I didn't mention anything about happy motorcyclists and the bugs in their teeth!) With all of the rain we have had lately, the bugs are out in full force. When I drive the side roads just off the freeway, the lightning bug hits glow for about 20 minutes. Its almost pretty in a disgusting sort of way. If I don't hit any traffic, I think I can make it up there in 9 hours. I may need to drive just a hair over the speed limit. I'll leave Atlanta Wednesday after work, drive most of the night, show up at the show the next morning... stay for two days, wander around the airfield in a sleep deprived daze asking "where are the baby clothes?"... repeat process home in reverse. Work is REALLY starting to interfere with my play time.
  10. It looks like I'll be car pooling the whole trip... word spread around the office that I was driving up to the show. Now a few others want to tag along.
  11. So... uh... How long did YOU take to build a plane?
  12. You're in central TN? My farm in 45 min south of Nashville! (I don't live at the farm, but close is relative!) John's site said you were planning to start building a Cozy to replace the Long and the Velo... is that still your plan? It would be great to have a builder at the same stages close by! Going to Oshkosh?
  13. Some of us have a higher personal gross than others! If you substantially increase power, won't your gross go up? (Excluding for a moment the increase in weight that the larger power plant adds to the equation.)
  14. As an Oshkosh newbie... I was curious to know who in this group is going and, more importantly from a future builder's perspective, what is happening at the show that I should not miss?!?!?! I know about the general show from the website, but what items not listed may be happening that I should shoot for? ie: composite classes, cozy meetings, etc. Thanks and here's hoping for little fluffy clouds!
  15. Have you had a chance to try one on for size? I was over 250lbs at 6' tall when I tried and was surprised that I actually fit. I'm down 30lbs now so I assume the fit will improve with diet. As Nat told me, "your too fat... loose weight. If you can't through dieting, you'll certainly loose it building a Cozy!" Forget Atkins, I'm gonna build a Cozy!
  16. Another great idea regulated to its demise.
  17. ... not only that, but it showed a certain self proclaimed expert was wrong again! (I've been asked not to mention his name, something about unnecessary ridicule, whining to the moderator, forum eticut surveys, et. al.) Dust, I go away for a week and look at the trouble you get into. I would have had fun backing you up on this one!
  18. ... we also need a dedicated section where users can complain about me. The complaints are starting to clutter up the useful posts!
  19. I'll go too if I can convince John to stop on the way and pick me up!
  20. Don't forget to mention that chick's dig sexy experimental airplanes!!! No wait... don't mention that.
  21. There is one down at the airport next to the Atlanta Motor Speedway. I'll see if I can find the name and number somewhere. He let me try his on for size, but after I slipped and fell in trying to climb in the cockpit, he was not in any mood to take me up flying. Something about "liability" and "I'll take you up when you finish your own plane." (???) Oh, also don't mention all the great information you can find on the internet unless you want a lecture. Now what did I do with his number...
  22. I haven't talked to Greg since Jan, but he should have the engine done by now. (outsourced)
