Thanks for the reply Wayne. I figured that the the hand propping was a carryover from previous plans but I wasn't sure about the epoxy. It is in bold letters and I thought they were trying to keep builders from using anything other than epoxy to bond foam but I wasn't sure. Sean

I was reading through my plans last night and I noticed that it specifically calls for only RAES or Saf-t poxy to be used for bonding. I plan on using MGS for my plane. What am I missing here? All replies are appreciated

I camped down there last year with a couple of friends and a C-172. We camped right on the field next to the VOR station. There are bathrooms and showers available. It was a little bit of a hike from the runway but if you are patient they have shuttle tractors which will take you around the grounds. I cant remember the price of camping but I think it was pretty reasonable. About $15 a day per aircraft. Go to sun-n-fun.org The rates for all types of camping should be on the web site. You can also download a map of the area with all the locations of the facilities.

Does anyone know where I can find specs on the Defiant. I've done some google searches but all I seem to find is pictures or references but no performance data. I would greatly appreciate anyone who could point to a web site with this info. Also, Are there 2 models of the Defiant and if so what are the differences between them? Thanks, Sean

John, You are right about the fuel injection system. What I meant to say is that there really isnt any off the shelf standard intake system that I know of or that I have seen.

I was messing around with the Mooney on MS flight sim 2004 and the mixture is determined by TIT or Turbine Inlet Tempeature as opposed to an egt which I think is normally used on turbo charged engines. Do you plan on adding a sensor for this? I understand why you are going with the stock turbo on the 13b. I know that Bruce Turrentine reccomends the the supercharger but then you are stuck coming up with some type of muffler. The turbo solves the problem but I guess the question is whether the stock turbo will take running at 75%n power all the time. I don't know if the Mazda engineers designed it for that. I am still educating myself about the relationship between mixture settings and fuel flow control. I'ts still a type of voodoo science to me. I guess one of the downfalls about the 13b is that you are pretty much stuck custom building some type of fuel injection system. I'll be really interested in the results you get from yours.

I guess I don't understand how you are able to determine how much fuel to add or remove..do you watch the tach or the egt?

John Slade, From what I understand you are going to use a manual waste gate to control boost on your turbo. What I was wondering is how the fuel mixture will be controlled as the amount of air to the engine is increased. Does the fuel injection compensate for this automatically or is it done manualy in the traditional fashion? Sean

I just put a garage heater in my garage. I bought the heater from home depot. The heater is 30k BTU with a thermostat. It's natural gas and I ran a line to my gas line in my house. The installation was pretty straight forward. I have put it on the first setting and it keeps my 2 car garage at about 60 deg. f. I live in Columbus Ohio and the outside temps have been around the 20's here lately. I put r-19 attic bats on the top and one half of my garage wall is insulated with r-13 and drywalled. I plan to insulate the other half in the near future. I was talking to a friend last night and he told me that if you buy more than $100 of the blown fiberglass stuff from Home depot they will let you use the shooter for free. If I had to do it over again I would use the blown stuff for the top. I think you get better coverage with it. I'm insulating my garage doors with the pink 1" foam. The squares in my garage door are about 21.5" x 45". I split the foam in the middle and piece it in and seal it to the door with the yellow squirt foam. The heater was $250 and the gas line was about $1 a foot plus fittings.

Just out of curiosity, What does it cost to have and maintain an ox system? Wouldn't that also have to included in to the cost and time factor?

I could see having this discussion for the sake of arguing but as far as efficiency goes I think that comparing the cozy to the lance air IS comparing apples and oranges. My goal is to fly faster than I do now. I can throw $50k at the problem or $90k at the problem...seems to me that the cozy is more efficient.

It would seem logical to me for them to offer it to the experimental market for the possibility of increased sales but they are probably trying to avoid the liability issues.

My understanding was that they weren't going to offer this motor to the experimental market.
