  1. Great job. One point tho... cncdoc said "The landing brake is integral to the Rutan design that Nat carried through in the Cozy." I belive the Long did not have a belly board to start. I belive it was a plans mod. I was not there but I did read that in the news letters. If so that makes it not integral to the design, right? Also many EZ flyers dont use it after getting some time in the plane, so it does not seem nessary.
  2. John Was your turbo oil system and position stock? If not then how did your turbo drain back to your system? Not only is proper flow important but the oil exit needs to be very open and flowing. Oil out of a turbo can be very "frothy" and needs a place to flow free to and settle before being pumped out, or a very high volume dry sump used to get all the froth out of the way for the incoming froth. If it backs up your turbo is toast. But the number one thing that raises flags for me is that the turbo wiggled before you used it. I have rebuilt a few turbos and they should never be "loose". They need to be able to spinn free but not wiggle about the axis. I would bet, not a lot of money, that the bearing was a little worn before you began, leading to the free play. The end snapping off would be typical of this event as thats the point where it gets cocked. I would take the turbo to a performance turbo shop and get a post mortem. I think it is very important you figgure out what happened before you replace it.
  3. You reap what you sow Jon. Let's really understand the variable here We had/have a great community that was growing and helping people and Jon Match became administrator and started offending people and everyone stopped posting. Jon never did post all the offensive messages he sent to Dust. Dust posted them and Jon immediatly DELETED them. So we could not see what he really is like. I have been told he did the same thing to others but they did not say anything. With no warning, no private message, no personal email to me Jon banned my account. He sent me a reactivation email, THAT DID NOT WORK. After me not posting for some time dust asked me whats up and I told him I was banned. After Dust and Clifford posted on this, Jon sent me a second reactivation email to my "problem" account and did work. I guess as a new admin he was feeling his oats. I do not belive I ever had a problem with my email. But if i did there are a thousand ways to fix it without banning me. I never posted any form of an offensive post prior to zetlin slapping around Joe Peterson. Even today I, after this whole thing turned my stomach so much I did not come here for months, I am still one of the top posters. The only one i used a "offensive" word in was the one above. Even the posts Jon calles offensive were me calling light to the silly behavior of zetlin and matcho.
  4. Just so we dont forget the history and so the casual reader can be informed. Where Jon insulted Dust and never explained really what he said and why he said it But really didn't want it known what he said. http://www.canardzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=679 http://www.canardzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=667 there are more but i didn't want to waste any more time on it. What started it for me personaly, was marc zetlin rebuking a total newb in public on a total non event, that all but marc feel is common practice on the net. What does the reader think? http://www.canardzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=682&highlight=patterson+largeprime Where he banned me, not because i insulted anyone, but because I rejected the idea we should slap newbs. http://www.canardzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=690&page=2&pp=15 I never told you Joe that i never felt you caved in. Thats not it. It was you were slaped around in public on your, what 5th post? Over total BS. For the reader I have posted here plenty. I have disagreed with jon on how he treats people, and lets people be treated. I have No history of insulting people or anything at all. In Jons mind my "history" was disagreeing with marc as publicaly as he rebukes newbs.
  5. Unbelivable I left this place for a long time because you are such a jackass Jon. I came back because I was told you had been reigned in. Now I here your the BOSS? No wonder there are less and less posts. No wonder the great people are being driven away. You have neither the social skills or the knowledge base to do this well. It will limp along a shadow of what it could have been, mostly, because your in charge.
  6. How about shots on how you made it?
  7. I would like to build a two piece table that i can take apart to make it smaller and do 90% of the layups on and put together to do the longer layups on. I was thinking 8' and 4'. Anybody done this? Recomend a good size to spilit the table at?
  8. It seems the GU in the rain thing is a non event, if you do this... http://www.cozybuilders.org/newsletters/news_68.html#GU%20CANARD%20TRIM%20CHANGE http://www.cozybuilders.org/newsletters/news_67.html#gu_canard So other than the rain does the ronz beat the GU in any other way? Might we consider the GU as a performance upgrade?
  9. http://www.eng-tips.com/gviewthread.cfm/pid/1/qid/22870 I keep hitting it when I search for cozy stuff It's a little long, but I though worth a read.
  10. I have, like many, been looking at the infinity gear. If one had the strut gear mounted at the end of the spar, one could have a straight vertical landing gear. From a drag point of view, a well faired straight vertical, gear should be able to get as low a drag as a Fixed Gear can get. And almost as simple. I haven't figgured how to use anything but struts (would live to use a low maintence composite, but no flex, right?) As usual I wait for your patient and thoughtful responses.
  11. A building near the canards would be great. Big tent near there might work well too. But the buildings are cooler are a hot day.
  12. The video he sent me has a set installed in a cozy at the very end of it.
  13. I think the biggest reason I am building this plane is the community. No document anywhere will ever replace talking stuff over with someone. I dont think the suggeston is we should change this site or any other source. Each of them is what they is: thats not going to change. But there are some great ideas and questions woven in amongst all the other things in every one of our information sources. Some sources are just a great idea like bobs book at aeroelectric.com are a must read for your electrical system. I think there some Extreamly hi quality info we should know that is hard to tie in. The real question is "Is there a better way to GET TO our good ideas and time proven techniques?" We are kicking around ideas for a "Cozy Bible", the "mother of all CSA" news letters, or perhaps a "canard pusher on crystal meth". Or I am waaaaaaay off...
  14. maddy: Thats exackly what i was thinking of. As the "grandness" increases I see it as less a detailing of the information directly and more about a brief summary and a pointer to the comprenhisive information. Any published document will always lag state of the art. The power of the published doc is to spend less time rehashing the known and more time exploring the new. It will provide a foundation of knowledge for our discussions.
  15. JD's video has two flying cozy's with retracts on it. They open and close on the video in the air while doing flybys
