TMann
Dick Rutan had an engine out situation (at 1,000 AGL) yesterday in a Cessna 150 and made a successful forced landing. The quote of the month goes to the AP - Rutan said he was flying at about 1,000 feet when the engine died -- the AP said it was "fortunate" that he was so close to the ground News link is here. Cozy1200
Speaking of Dick, I was reading my brother's copy of National Geographic Adventure. On page 71, lower left paragraph, it states the following about the search for Steve Fosset. Dick Rutan - brother of Burt, who mounted the first private flight into suborbital space - flew search missions I'm assuming this is referring to the SpaceShipOne program in which case this is completely inaccurate. The only other possible thing that it could be referring to is some of the early round the world balloon competition. Didn't Dick try that? Maybe he did a suborbital flight, but I don't recall that. So am I wrong or is NG wrong? Quote Drew Chaplin (aka the Foam Whisperer) --- www.Cozy1200.com - I'm a builder now! --- Brace for impact... TMann
Burt, who mounted the first private flight into suborbital spaceI believe this is the context of the quote.Dick is the brother of the guy who did that .......... not the guy who did that. Kind of like me being related to someone who is wealthy .......... doesn't do me a lot of good personally Quote T Mann - Loooong-EZ/20B Infinity R/G Chpts 18 Velocity/RG N951TM Mann's Airplane Factory We add rocket's to everything! 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. 9, 10, 14, 19, 20 Done

TMann
My understanding was Dick was out doing 'Piston Engine' research and trying to establish the failure rate/ life span.
