That's not correct Mark, the Amaradillo powered racer, N205MB flew the last week of August and is now the preferred engine:'"This will now be the primary engine for the next rocket racers," said Granger Whitelaw, CEO and co-founder of the RRL. The league is building five rockets so that it will have six by next spring.'

To be clear, I think this is the trainer aircraft, not one of the rocket-powered Velocitys.

For those interested, I've posted our initial report on our emergency off-field landing on the way to Rough River this weekend.

Well, there isn't any scheduled service to Otisco, and we were thinking of setting something up...
Can you believe they didn't have valet?
Just goes to show you that a Velocity can merge with traffic, everyone just has to agree that fast, pointy aircraft invariably get the right-of-way.
Seriously, we know folks have questions, and we have answers, so stay tuned.

Well, apparently I shouldn't poke fun at the gear... went to depart and the right brake was lame... hopefully just needs to be bled and we can get there still, but we'll see...
Mack was trying to avoid the houses, declared so on the radio, we're not sure why he hit the house, but I'm confident he was doing what he could given the situation.
Current speculation is that the supercharger was a positive displacement type, which would starve the engine of air if the belt failed, but that's just folks talking possibilities.

The Cincinnati FSDO regularly gives this kind of op limit without ill effect, mine is in fact. We have lots of clear flat land here, and my limits were 75 nm, stay in Ohio, out of Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus' airspace, but I could go to any airport not limited by the preceding.

It's N415MK (Killgore), but is seems perhaps someone else was aboard, and it had very few (5?) hours on it. Still desperately trying to find out who was piloting.

Just FYI, at Oshkosh the "Split" Kits were back, you could even buy one wing at a time. From memory, it was "winglet, L wing, R wing, canard, and fuselage" kit's (there were a bunch, at least 6 subkits). Looks like the website isn't up to date yet.

I'd be interested in hearing what you find as well, I've not taxied a Cozy, but our XL taxis pretty well if you keep up a bit of speed, at very low speeds she wallows and misses stays, as they say. You don't have to hot rod it, just a brisk walking pace, and an occasional stab on take-off roll.
B
You're welcome... btw, I do try to keep a current listing of Velo's (flying and gently-used kits) on the wiki...

The twin was hot-n-heavy for awhile, but it's been on the back-burner for some time, and I would be surprised to see it in the next three years. The "hot-rod" is the current development machine, and the RRL ships. And then there's the Turbo, if they're serious about it....

Just a couple of adds here to what others have said.
Strake baggage - you really can make this as big or small as you want, in hind sight, I'd probably have made mine a bit smaller.
Other behind-seat storage - also depends on RG or FG, my XL/FG has a very natural storage shelf over the sump, in addition to the behind-seat space. See picture below. Retracts have less usable space back here.
Draggage - There is at least one Velocity with Draggage - http://wiki.velocityxl.com/index.php?title=Draggage_Pod.

I'm not sure this is supportable, though I can see why it may seem this way.
I know several folks who've landed Velocity XL airplanes off-field with no damage at all, and some with very minimal damage, and they are typically much heavier than Cozys. Now, our wheels are bigger, but we're heavier, taller, and fast. I've collected as many pictures as I could to show how survivable they are on my website http://n44vf.velocityxl.com/building/Accidents.php
Brett
Don't know what airport these folks are at, but Paul Stroub has N776TB and lives in Roseville, as does Keith Hallsten with N585V - both Velocitys, but hey, any port in a storm, right?
Brett
:ROTFLMAO:Thanks Waiter, a Velo friend of mine described trying a loop in exactly these terms... it worked out, so it's quite funny... now... it took a few weeks to get to funny, though. Be careful out there, folks.
B
Yea, my Velocity has two big-a$s NACA holes on top, and two large conduits on the bottom. I added fire block foam to seal the conduit this weekend, not sure what could be done with the NACAs, to be honest.

Yep - we'll be arriving either Friday or Saturday before the Show - Kent will setting up the campsite on the Wednesday before, at least hopefully, in the same place. Also will probably be having a group dinner or two, not sure if it'll be a fish fry yet or not.
