  1. I don't have the brains to set up a web site, but I'm having a great time kibbutzing and learning stuff. Some sites I found interesting, I don't remember which ones I found and which were links from other sites... Instrument sites http://www.pcflightsystems.com/egyro.html http://www.dynondevelopment.com/docs/efis-d10.html http://www.rkymtn.com/rm00009.htm Build a prop http://k0lee.com/propfab.html Engines http://www.deltahawkengines.com/index.htm http://www.rotaryengineillustrated.com/RE101pages/1-anatomy101.html http://www.jabiru.net.au/
  2. My heart wants retracts. I reckon the silly muscle can just get on with pumping the blood, coz' my brains opting for fixed. I don't think the Infinity website could be anymore defensive if it tried. Philip Johnson spins a mean story, but I'm not convinced the benefits are appreciable, and the arrangement of ribs within his strakes look like a rat's nest compared to the genuine article. If he proves me wrong (cause he'll be flying YEARS before I can) I would be a happy person though. The retract system for the Velocity looks great, and answers most of Nat's reservations. Has this been attempted on a Cozy? What is the performance difference for the Velocity? I've seen many pictures of Long-ez with infinity, hows their performance? Are ther any Cozys flying with retracts?
  3. In my Cozy dreams I am considering two color schemes: 1.- RED TWO - Not much really, just the red flashes off Luke Skywalker's X-wing on the wing and a red stripe on the side. The rest is sensibly reflective WHITE (other than the photon torpedo launchers) 2.- SELF PORTRAIT - The following picture has intrigued me for years. A similar treatment would have Guy Pearce on my side and Kylie Minogue on the wife's (erm, haven't quite got her agreement on this yet...) The strake will obscure Kylie's wobbly bits, but there are no strakes on a Citroen so don't follow the link if this offends. The rest is WHITE.
  4. Cliques are part of human nature. My main form of transport is a Triumph Sprint, which I rode over some fantastic mountain roads for 3 hours to visit a Cozy builder last week. (Had a great time, talked for hours and did a lay-up). On such roads there are plenty of bikes out on a Saturday, either riding or drinking coffee, and they're all in packs. It's a bit like those strange 3d pictures of endless waterfalls. The Jap bike riders look down their noses at the Euros. The Euro bike riders look down at the Hogs. The Hog riders look down at the Jap bikes. Everybody ignores the trail bikes. And it all gets left in the shed on Monday when they're punting the Toyota to work to rubber-stamp stuff...
  5. I'd say RTV would probably ignite:eek: Is the gap where the air enters the muff, or is there an opening below? Is it directly connected to a ram-air or does it just get air from the engine compartment? I'm actually astoundingly ignorant about this, and used to be terrorfied of the heater in my brother's Kombi...
  6. Wow! That looks brilliant. I've searched around a bit and found a few references to Christensen Opus 3 and Opus-3d and some more pictures but no details. Looks like it has a gull door for the back seat, I can't see any other way of getting in there... A bit less sun on the bald spot. I read one claim it is a Long-ez derivative, but it looks like a cleaned-up copy of the Cozy, even more so than some others. Does anybody know if its plans-built or a kit?
  7. My experience of chat rooms is they eventually default to random discussions between horny teenagers, hostile to anybody who doesn't understand LOL & PML, etc. If managed by a host that promotes an event or special guest who has the power to boot off the horny teenages it could be great. My only request for such events would be could the scheduled times include UTC for those who don't reliably deal with US time zones. Like myself...
  8. Probably not critical for the rocker cover, but if you aren't going to chrome them I'd use high-temperature engine paint rather than ordinary finishes. They're available here from car parts suppliers and come in dramatic colours if you are so inclined.
  9. Does anybody know if ANR has ever been tried in motorcycle helmets, or have I just given away an idea that'll make somebody rich:confused: Erm, after a little more thought I suppose it may be inconvenient to miss out on ambulance sirens, the horn on the Kenworth on the intercept course or the cop asking the motor to be turned off or he will insert lead pellets into you... On the other hand (having viewed Marc's link) I'm getting keen again:confused:
  10. Thanks for the information. I love No 4's stoneguard, makes me want to buy plans just to pencil it in... Coincidentally, I'm reading Vera Rollo's biography of Bert Rutan at the moment (not bad by the way, if a bit "magazine-ish"). In it she says: Burt decided to develop a grass field/rough field capabilty for the Long-EZ so it could be flown anywhere. Typically, after designing and installing a spring-loaded nose gear "shock strut" and larger main tires on the Long-EZ, Burt flew it into a typical grass field and tested the landing gear. He then announced that with the new modifications, the plan was approved for operation from average grass fields. Anybody know if this modification made it onto any aircraft, or is it still available? Anybody tried it on a Cozy? I also note the following from Cozy Newsletter #63. First of all, the main wheels are outside of the propellor arc, so the only question is the nosewheel... ...In 20 years of flying pushers, and landing on many different runways, and taxiing over a fair amount of debris, only once did I pick up an AN3 bolt which left its impression on my prop. That was when I used a burst of throttle on a dirty taxiway at Chino. I should have known better.
  11. I've seen references to avoiding rough runways, and others saying only use hard runways. I understand the issue is mainly FOD to the prop, but also a fairly brisk landing speed. If I want to base a Cozy at a nice, long, grass strip am I asking for trouble? Or is it just not possible?
  12. Auction ended, highest bid US $40,625.99 (Reserve not met)
  13. Thanks for the info Jim. I think I need to find somebody local with such a machine and ask questions face-to-face until they get corns on their ears...
  14. Jerry, thanks. I can't think why that didn't work last time I tried it! Nat, wow! If no answers were forthcoming I was going to try to work up the nerve to e-mail you. Thanks for the reply. The only remaining question is who do those who have YOUR plans get a serial number from as of JAN 1st, Co-Z or Aircraft Spruce? I think you are to be heartily congratulated for making these arrangements for the future of your baby. Your long and active support & obvious planning for the future are what have (just about) sold me on building a Cozy.
  15. If I buy a set of existing plans or an uncompleted Cozy project the plans would have come from C0-Z Development, yet Aircraft Spruce now distributes the plans. Does anybody know if you can get a builders number off AS from a set of Co-Z plans or do you still get this off Co-Z? Is there any sort of transfer of licence involved if you buy a set of plans/uncompleted project? On another tack, does anybody have a link to where on the Aircraft Spruce site the Cozy plans are, or do you have to ring? How much are they selling the plans for? Any more questions I suppose I'll be banned from the forum, but I would appreciate any answers anybody is able to give:)
  16. I don't have any first hand knowledge here, but I thought I understood that the first thing to stall is the canard. How does increasing the efficiency of the wing help this, or is it a bit more complicated than that? Possible alternative view, nobody really understands how canards fly, so stick stuff on and EXPERIMENT. Also, request translation please, what is RTV? Silicon?
  17. Thanks all, that makes more sense. My main gripe about the design of the Cozy (and lots of neat things I see to make in Popular Mechanics, etc.) is the crazy, old-fashioned Imperial measurements. I don't own any measuring devices with feet/inches/cubits/fathoms on 'em or any but metric tools; and would like to keep it that way. After a bit more reading of all the wonderful websites of Cozy builders out there I've now grasped that Nat has drawn up the Cozy in a sort of hybrid metric system based on the inch. I suppose I could let such a tape measure into my life, seing he's met me half way:)
  18. Hello John Slade, I've read your site extensively and like the look of your plastic ply technique, but what exactly is the "4ml plastic". I guess it isn't 4 millimeter:confused:
