Kent Ashton Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 I see a bunch of Facebook pages for canards. For example, https://www.facebook.com/groups/25741482604/photos/ I see a lot of name there I do not recognize. I'm wondering if it is worthwhile to invite them to join CanardZone. Facebook is a terrible site for what we do. There is no index, there are no threads, there is no search function. I think people join the Facebook pages because they don't know what is available elsewhere. When I want to research something, I search the google cozybuilders archive, canardaviation.com, canardcommunity.com, and ez.org. I will also do a google search for the canard pusher newsletter and cozy newsletters. Most of my questions are answered there. My wife is on Facebook and she is getting turned off by it. So many ads. Bryan Dover Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 I think that is a splendid idea. I joined the "Rutan LongEz and Varieze" Facebook group mainly to gather all the information possible. My gripe with Facebook is they run script every time I log in and after a few minutes my browsing slows to a crawl, like a dial up crawl. I have to recycle my browser to stop the script. Quote
Kent Ashton Posted November 30, 2017 Author Posted November 30, 2017 (edited) Bryan, I don't have a FB account and not gonna create one just for this but here is a list of canard resources you might cut-and-paste into a FB post. It is possible the FB folks don't know some of these resources. www.canardzone.com/forum/ - active canard group, good archives http://forum.canardaviation.com - moderator retired, slightly active, good archives www.canardcommunity.com - closed to new posts, good archives www.ez.org - forum is pretty dead but has good resources for canards http://www.cozybuilders.org/Canard_Pusher/ - Rutan's Canard Pusher newsletters www.cozybuilders.org - Good resources for canard builders cozy_builders@googlegroups.com - active group, many topics apply to Rutan/Puffer designs canard-aviators@yahoogroups.com - active group Hmm, I wonder why some of these links do not highlight to a clickable link? I am a member of a few Canard-related Facebook groups as well. They're the closest thing they have to a forum, but not usable for anything more than casual news, pictures, and some chatter. The downside of Facebook for forums is that its intermixed with politics, whereas a forum such as this one does not allow political discussions. In December I am finally doing the upgrade to the Canard Zone forum, which will support logins using Facebook accounts and allow some interaction to Facebook in the same way blogs/news sites due ("share to Facebook"). Looks like the forum software only automatically links URLs if the http:// part is in front. That may change with the upgrade. Barry Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 FB seems worthless to me. My wife has an account to share pics etc with friends and family. For that, OK. I've gone through all the old websites related to canards. Even if I never build I still learn and that is a good thing. Quote
pbrandt Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 FB used to be a great way to reach people and form new communities, but now everybody complains about how little reach it has (unless you pay). Youtube might be the way to reach new ppl or the younger generation now I think. But it requires a little more effort than fb. Making a youtube channel is on my to-do list for when I start my build.
