Mynor M B Posted October 25, 2006 Author Posted October 25, 2006 I am also open to any new idea about what landing light can I install in my airplane. Quote _________________ Mynor M B Long EZ http://www.flyingez.com
rpellicciotti Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 If you have an extended nose, you can put the landing light in it with a simple, lexan cover: Quote Rick Pellicciotti Belle Aire Aviation, Inc. http://www.belleaireaviation.com
Jon Matcho Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 Is the use of LEDs for aviation lights accepted yet? The technology is improving and should be well-suited for aviation use in that they're light, sturdy, small, and require little power. The technology is improving and should be well-suited for aviation use in that they're light, sturdy, small, and require little power. Does the FAA dictate what type of light to use? I would hope not, as long as it has the brightness needed. The LEDs I have seen didn't look like they would generate enough light though. If there are some that can meet the requirements, that sounds like something to consider! Quote --Ed Savage Cozy Mark IV #1032
Drew Swenson Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Before I sold my Longez, I put these lights on: http://www.airplanegear.com/skybright.htm Position and tail lights are LEDs. Strobes are regular type. You can program the kind of flash pattern. They were bright, worked great, and ~half the cost of whelan. Quote
Jack Morrison Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 I'm in the process of installing led nav/strobe lights in my E Racer. The units look very good and are a lot less expensive than Wehlen and they are legal lights. I should have the installation done by this week end and I will post the results. They can be seen at www.AirplaneGear.com or www.fly-RLSA.com. The name of the company is Rollison Airplane Company, Inc. Jack E Racer 113 Quote
Drew Swenson Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 The other thing is that the skybright lights are a lot more aerodynamic than whelan too. Quote
rpellicciotti Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Or, you can buy them directly from the manufacturer: http://www.gs-air.com Giovanni is a great guy and good to deal with. I have installed these lights on 2 S-LSA airplanes and I have a set for the EZrg. I will install them this winter. Nice to have position lights that draw 1 amp total. Mynor M B Posted October 27, 2006 Author Posted October 27, 2006 Thanks for all the advices, I think the skybright nightlights from GS-AIR are the way to go. I still looking for an option on the landing light, my airplane is 100% original nose, so I´ll have to find out if I can install a landing light in the position Mr Rpellicciotti did -it looks wonderfull- but if I can´t I´m still looking for an option, thanks again. regards. rpellicciotti Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 I still looking for an option on the landing light, I think I saw a used, Brock, landing light (per plans) in the parts bin at EZ Jet, Inc. the other day when I was there. You could email Valerie and see what she has (if any). http://www.ezjetinc.com Quote Rick Pellicciotti Belle Aire Aviation, Inc. http://www.belleaireaviation.com
Delta Mike Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 Consider using a Xenon / HID (high intensity discharge) light for the landing light. Pros: Twice the brightness as a halogen, for 2/3 the wattage (and heat) 20 times longer bulb life than a halogen (that pays for itself right there) They come in all shapes and sizes - search HID lights on the web Cons: They require a voltage module which adds a little weight cost is ~ $200 for a set of bulbs and modules Quote
Mynor M B Posted November 20, 2006 Author Posted November 20, 2006 It sounds like a good landing light to install in a Long-EZ. Thanks for your advice Delta Mike. Quote _________________ Mynor M B Long EZ http://www.flyingez.com
Hercpilot Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 where in the plans does it talk about the landing light? the only reference i can find refers to cp-24 or cp-25. Quote Justin http://web.me.com/hercpilot/Justins_Website/Welcome.html
Mynor M B Posted December 6, 2006 Author Posted December 6, 2006 i have checked the CP 24 & CP 25 and have found in the CP 25 Page 4 a reference to it saying that from that moment on you had to send an envelope to the rutan factory, in order to receive the landing light installation drawings, so I will ask Rutan factory to see if they still have it. Thank's for your guidance. Cheers. Quote _________________ Mynor M B Long EZ http://www.flyingez.com
