Jon Matcho
I'm clearing out my 2-car carage and want to know what everyone knows they should have done before they started building. What would you have made sure your shop had in place BEFORE starting to build? John Slade
Lots of lights and power outlets. I wish I'd organized the hardware better so I could find stuff more quickly. There were many times when I'd loose, break or damage a nut / bolt or something and find that the chapter supplies included the EXACT number needed. I'd order all the nuts, bolts, nutplates, washers, al tube etc. etc. for the whole plane at once and add a few extra of everything, then store them logically. ....but the first thing I realized when I started building was that I should have started building sooner. Jon Matcho
Lights, oh yes, but of course I didn't put 2 + 2 together to realize the outlets part. I'm planning to rip all the sheetrock down so I can insulate, and will add power then. Going to be a little project before the big project. filipo
Jon, plan on some kind of heating setup which can be left on safely overnight. Avoid heaters which dump gases into the garage. Quote Omar FilipovicKitplanes Magazine web editor

Norm M
I thought it would be a good idea to clean up and organize the shop before I started building. It is still probably a good idea, but 3 1/2 years later I still have a messy shop with unorganized tools, plus an airplane in the hanger. John hit the nail on the head. Start building sooner. -Norm

Jon Matcho
Looks like the remnants of Chapter 1 from the Baby Special... I can recognize half the "material". Power, lights, heating, cleaned, and organized shop. Got it. I'm lucky enough to have a 2-car garage, but first want to get everything in there spotless. I have a buddy who will be taking out the lolly columns and insulating the sides, leaving only the 2 doors. In the meantime, I am reading the plans and hope to start late fall/early winter. dust
The MOST important step is the one that gets you into the workspace, all the rest will follow, remember, the rabbit always losses the race, read reasons to not build or work on the plane today. Enjoy the build Quote maker wood dust and shavings - foam and fiberglass dust and one day a cozy will pop out, enjoying the build i can be reached at http://www.canardcommunity.com/
