  1. Wow, Steve,Thats kind of judgemental. 6'5" 260 lbs is not necessarily HD for that height. But shouting it from a rooftop to the crowd is sort of bad manners isn't it? ...Chrissi
  2. Now Waiter, you know darn well the RV people would not be anywhere near this fun
  3. Contact http://canardfinder.com/ to locate a flying canard aircraft. He keeps a database on all canard aircraft and has located great deals for a few people we know. His name is David Orr, aka, "Beagle" please let him know we sent you. Regards, Chrissi
  4. STAY AWAY FROM WAX PAPER, please? There is stuff on a roll that is white paper and it is plasticized on one side, today that is consdered to be butcher papaer because it is a safe barrier. They are all gong to trap air. You work the air out as you go along, sort of like applying a huge decal. Work from one end to the other or from the center out. Also make sure whatever you are putting down is not being stretched otherwise it will pucker later. Regards, Chrissi
  5. Its true! just when I thought I knew a guy I caught him making his insignignias for his uniform, not knowing what they were I asked him to 'splain to me, he was rather self concious and swore me to secrecy; he was being inducted as a Klingon officer or somethng like that..talk about secret societies, next thng we will see them marching in the Easter parade in between the Shriners and the Masons. What I want to know is what the heck do a bunch of guys do at a Klingon meeting?Next, what the heck does this all have to do with firewalls? ...Chrissi
  6. Yah, six years. The funny thing was I grew up overseas, my first language was whatever the native dilect of my nannie in Africa was until my mom put a stop to that.. Swahili? Yes folks I am a real African/American and lived in Europe into my teens. I had no problem getting around speaking French, Spanish and Portuguese but thats entirely different than the classroom stuff though I did pass two years of Latin now thats real useful, Klingon anybody? ...Chrissi
  7. So why is it I can take six years of first year French and not be able to speak it yet Airplane sinks right in? ...Chrissi
  8. Ah...thank you! grey cells turning to mush, too much fugu?
  9. EEEEK "We're turning Japanese, we're turning Japanese.." who was that, Cheap Trick? I used to go to Omiya City in Saitama about twice a year. Somehow dodged the winters. Most memorable time was in the spring when the cherry blossoms are at their peak and everybody goes to the park for a picnic.. I loved their customs. On my way to work I'd usually get snagged by the business dept to proof read an instruction manual from Engrish into English... little did they know it was my worst subject. I think back then I was still using the Parkens Universal Decoder Rev 1.0
  10. And all this time I thought my laptop had a virus?...Chrissi
  11. Rick, Really nice panel, great Long-ez as well. How long did it take you to adjust to an all glass panel? Regards, Chrissi
  12. Dear Wolfman,With TIG and english the solution is the same..practice practice practice, personally I think it would be easier to be an expert at TIG welding than to be good at English I was an OK TIG welder but wanted to be much better so I signed up and paid for a class in a tech school. I figured that forcing myself to practice 4 1/2 hrs a week would improve my technique as well as having an expert lean over my shoulder and critique my style and work. It really does make a difference. English... you could not pay me enough to go back to school to do that better! I hated it, it hated me. ...Chrissi
  13. Drew, if you start early enough and you live long enough with ADD you will do many things... Oh look, new shiney object ! I spent a large part of my life obcessed with yachts and yacht design, it may have come from designing and building hull plugs for my friend that molded R/C racing boat and hydro's. When I started studying naval architecture I fell in love with many different types of boats but the odd and sometimes ugly work boats like tugs and barge tugs captured my heart (somebody had to love them?). At one point I had found a 50 foot 1940 all wood tug boat with a big GMC 671 diesel from a semi truck in it. I wanted this thing just because it had character like a cartoon tug boat. I wanted to buy it to convert it into a cute home but the wood hull had issues. The designer of the sail boat that I lived aboard was very popular at the time and the yachts he designed were very much the ultimate blend of performance living/cruising sailing yachts of the time, I idolized him and had several conversations with him. At one point I felt ready to leave my job to follow my heart so I called him to ask about apprentacing with him. He let me down gently explaining that I was making a better income than the guy who designed the winning America's Cup yacht and to take an entry level position in naval architecture would cost me a 50% cut in income. He suggested it would be a "nice hobby" for me. So unless you are a superstar in that industry, "Naval Architect" is a lofty title that pays draftsman wages. Sometimes I still wish I had followed my heart. ...Chrissi
  14. 90% of the time I am one to tell people to invest in a lycoming clone of some sort like an XP-360, experimenting with somethng like a Mazda engine is not for everybody. What I do resent is that it is perfectly ok to have a crankshaft snap in half, to break the head off a valve and swallow it, or my favorite; chuck an entire cylinder assembly and a chunk of the block clean though the cowling... yes apparently this is perfectly okay folks because its a certified aircraft engine and its no surprise, these are known and acceptible failures, mmm hmmm. ANYTHING goes wrong with your Mazda and its a race to see who can say "I Told You So", mmm hmmm. Thats tiresome. Of the three people who I know that have pulled their Mazda engines and replaced them: -one, after 150 hrs, changed to a jet engine... because it was cooler and because he could. -one, after an engine out, his wife said to change it or not fly it. -one, after electrical problems convinced him that it was too easy for electrical problems to stop the engine, he switched to a new XP-360. I do not believe any of these choices were poor ones. About a week ago we were at a rotory engine fly in down in Florida. Though weather held a few back, six RV's showed up. Not a cough, spit or sputter from any of them. They all started easily cold. They all ran very strong. One, a turbo 13B flew in from San Diego. Not local hanger queens. There was a single rotor producing 100+ HP on a test bed, quite impressive, it ran great. The 20B in Tracy's nearly complete RV was awe inspiring at 6k rpm, and smooth and LOUD (no silencer yet). There is no where near enough of them to claim any uniformity, and certainly not enough to claim any history of success. For viscous hopp bearing beverages I think Newcastle Brown or Old Peculiar have all the necessities to sustian life, nice almost viscous enough to be chewy beers. ...Chrissi
  15. I used to crave one of those "endless length" capable plotters when I was studying naval architecture, but I am sure not having one saved me a fortune in ink and paper. So, if I send you a CAD file you'd love to plot it out and check it for me wouldn't you? ...Chrissi
  16. For us its useful as a 3D model to determine clearance of other parts so as to not impact rudder cable runs, pulleys, etc. But it is also useful in that you can take a thumb drive down to a place with a large plotter/printer and get an accurate plot full sized. Regards, Chrissi
  17. Dear Jon, ALL, My deep apologies, I was operating off the CAD files someone had posted thinking those were the OPEN-EZ files. Apparently the person drawing the CAD files took some artistic license with them. Sorry to cause alarm. When I am done with my work, would there be any need for an accurate CAD tracing of this PDF file? Regards Chrissi
  18. Jon, they fit up in a broad sense of the word. When I tried some time ago to match them up to use for engine mount layouts they did not come close to the plans measurements. I tried to rescale them to match and the outline did not fit well enough for my needs eiher. You may want to do another check and prove me wrong because this would inpact cowl fit and a few other things ...Chrissi
  19. Sombody was nice enough to send us a hard copy, was hoping someone actually had scanned or otherwise digitized the real thing. How far off... well, using the plans hard copy and some of the basic measurements I decided to give up on the existing CAD files as useless for my purposes. We are going to offer some new engine mounts for the EZ that mount the same as a Cozy Mk-IV does. At first this was out of necessity for the bed mount types that want Jabirus, 13B's and Subes but then it started making a lot more sense for the Open-Ez as well to mount the engine properly rather than the LE's highly cantilevered mount. It would probably also work very well to adopt the MK-IV's main gear mounting as well. Regards, Chrissi
  20. Canardians, I am looking for an ACCURATE copy of the LE firewall, the plans version without any enhancements, I have a hard copy but need a drawing or picture file I can use in my CAD system to finish some instructions I am preparing. Any help would be appreciated. The Open-ez files and the files from www.EZ.org are not accurate reproductions of the plans firewall. I can work from almost any file type. Regards, Chrissi
  21. Chasingmars said "...Another odd thing, if I get it on me, I get itches where it's not actually touching, really stong. Like inside the canal of my left ear or on the top of my scalp. " This is part of what a pathologist friend explained to me about my allergy to it, she said that at the level of sensetivity I have now that if I breath it or if I touch it the local reaction sets off a full blown innunological system counterattack and that this can and may happen at all previous contact sites, hence my breaking out in leopord spots which was confirmed one day as I lifted up my epoxy shirt and noticed one for one I had matching spots. Guys, its an aquired thing, no one session is going to trigger it but the cumulative exposure can get you then its too late. Be sensible. I know someone who built two canards and his doctor has ruled out all other causes for some wierd pituitary gland problems he has. A lot of the stuff you abuse your body with now will not manifest itself until the last 20 years of your life, thats your hell on earth so to speak, play now, pay later. ...Chrissi
  22. Of the resins out there stick with the MGS, when heated to 95 deg it has the viscosity of thick water, wets out in a real hurry, you will do better quality work with less effort and fuss, besides, you don't want one of them brown airplanes do you? Oh, and LoVac only works with MGS, the brown stuff is too thick. ...Chrissi
  23. We have been using MGS 335 all along. ...Chrissi
  24. Don't be lulled into a false sense of security just because you are fine now. In my case it is an aquired allergy probably born out of stupidity when I was younger. I used to help a boyfriend mold R/C boats, polyester resin. We did this in a one car garage in Texas heat and humidity, t-shirts and shorts, spraying catylized resin, no masks, no gloves (thats what the 5 gallon bucket of acetone was for) etc. Long story short he died when he was 41 from toxic reactions, from what I heard it was not pretty. I am surprised my allergy is as mild as it is. It took awhile for the reaction to MGS to develope, about 18-24 months I think. Its not just the wet resin, the same components are in the cured resin and when you are sanding the resin plus the glass dust from micro grinds it way into your skin and pours, it also gets in your mucous membranes and lungs and causes stress. I know when we have been working with resin when I lay down at night, I can feel it in my lungs. You are young and healthy, don't be stupid. ...Chrissi
  25. Drew, Don't take any chances. I cannot get near the stuff but Randi is ok. I have spots like a leopord, my fingers itch, my cuticles blister and my nails are screwed up, sometimes they just start coming off, other times they grow with holes in them, ridges etc. To help Randi I must cover up completely, wear cotton liners and two layers of nitrile gloves, and a dust mask. I should wear a proper respirator. Regards, Chrissi
