News on Rocket Racing League

Promising news: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24100365/

This is also very surprising:

The company that built the airframes for both racing planes, Florida-based Velocity Aircraft, has been acquired by Rocket Racing and will operate under the aegis of a new subsidiary called Rocket Racing Composites Corp. Velocity will build a new line of private planes as well as the airframes for future Rocket Racers.

I hope it all turns out well.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this will be better for everyone. Congratulations Swings, good luck RRL, and everyone keep building! "Build on" as STeve says (Steve, what's with the ST?)

Hmmmmm? I think I will keep developing my rotary conversion. Rockets are nice, but even really fast 15 minutes of fuel does not get you too far.

It is kinda nice to see the jets on a fixed gear like I have. I have no desire to follow this course, but I do wonder what kind of mods they did to the airframe for the speeds they are making. Things to reduce flutter etc.

I should prove interesting to observe their progress even though I think the idea is a bit optomistic.

All the best,

Chris

It has to do with the fact of when I capitalize my S for my name I have gotten into the bad habit of not releasing the shift key fast enough so the t is always capitalized also I just got tired of trying to change it. What can I say I am a lazy ignorant redneck from Idaho. STeve build on.

This Internet thing makes you closer by default, albeit the virtual fire you're able to light is more like warm epoxy. Seriously, no more excuses... must find time, kill other projects, prioritize...

For what it's worth, the pace of the test program is picking up, as XCor works to demonstrate a quick turnaround capability. They flew yesterday, and then again today, and today's flight included a first, aerobatics (an Immelman), but the flight seemed to be cut short. Rumors were that a second flight was to take place today, but the Racer didn't reappear from Xcor's hangar.

Today was the last flight of the Rocket Racer at Mojave before it's disassembled and trucked to Oshkosh. If the airshows it's been putting on yesterday and today are any indication, everyone who'll be seeing it at OSH is in for a decided treat. Pics of some of the unusual attitudes assumed by this rocket plane are up on my blog at http://mojaveskies.blogspot.com
