  1. When I first started collecting photo's back in Oct of last year, Jerry Schneider sent me that photo and said... Hi Bruce. Attached should be a sure entry. It can be cropped for a nice composition. It was taken at Rough '07. Ken Laundrie's (builder) plane. Cozy MKIV IO-360, Downdraft Cooling. The photographer is Jack Fairchild... Jerry was right, it was a sure entry. I knew when I saw it, it was the cover shot. I did wait until all the photos were in, but this one just says "canard aircraft". It's real nice two-fer shot. Good job Jack, thanks for taking the time to capture a really great photo. Bruce
  2. I would think they would as well. Unfortunately, I'm not going to Oshkosh this year and I hate to burden (be a PITA) someone else with packing books around and collecting money. Bruce
  3. You guys are more than welcome, I really enjoyed the process of putting it all together. It was a real privilege working with such great photographs. Hopefully this book will not only jog some fond memories for a lot of people, but will encourage those that are building (like myself) to keep on building, keep focused. Go mix some epoxy or do some sanding, we can have a beautiful aircraft like one of those in the book. Bruce
  4. I can honestly say it's done and the printing company has done a beautiful job, sorry it took so long! Thanks to everybody that submitted a photo or several. I tried to get in as many as I could, sorry if one of yours did not make the book. It did turn into a lot larger project than anticipated, however, I think the end result was worth the effort. Here's the final link to the book, you'll notice the design is different than the other one. Not as much black, I'm sure Terry will be pleased. :-) http://picasaweb.google.com/BookofCanards/ Unfortunately, this company does not offer the books through a web site. So, you'll have to order them through me for the time being. I'm working on trying to get me out of that loop. Until then, I'll take care of getting the books to you. These books are print on demand, so I won't place the order until I've received payment for your book, if you would like one. That's also the reason for the higher cost for each book. The book cost $85 (a few dollars cheaper than the other company) and I'll ship them USPS Priority, which will add $13.50 to the cost, total then is $98.50. It'll take them 7-10 days to print the book. My mailing address... Bruce Sturgill Productions PO Box 652 Troutdale, OR 97060 If you have any questions at all, give me a shout. Thanks again for all your donated photos. Best regards, Bruce 503-491-5040
  5. You're welcome. I'm going to the Arlington fly-in again this year, I'd like to drop by and take a peak at your handy work. Will you be around? Bruce
  6. Hi Chris, If you have a complete set of plans, you won't need the TerdCD. That's for us folks that do not have a set of LongEZ plans (new or used) that came from the factory. You probably have the full size templates as well. If not, you can download them here on this site in the OpenEZ thread. Jon was working awhile back on the templates for the Roncz, but, I don't think he ever made it. The plans are on the TerfCD but not the templates. Here's a link for more info on the Roncz canard...I'm sure someone can come up with a set of templates and plans for you, $300 just for that is a lot of money. http://www.canardzone.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3450&highlight=roncz+plans Bruce
  7. First, thanks to everyone who sent in pictures, they're excellent. Here's the short version... the book was finished, however, after 5 books from Blurb they have yet to print a book that does not have any major mistakes. Here's the last email from them. Response - 03/29/2009 06:23 PM Hi Bruce, I'm sorry to hear this has happened again. I've refunded the cost of your initial order. You should see a credit of $90.00 on your next bank statement. In case you'd like to make any changes to your book, I would like to extend a promotional code to you for $90. It is valid for one use and expires in three months... I believe that the issues that are occurring are within printing, and not a fault of yours. Due to the time that has passed since your first printing, I believed there may be a chance that you may have wanted to make changes within your book, such as moving pictures around, or changing text. Because of this, I thought it best to give you a promotional code so this could be done, rather than to reprint your book. Please check your email for a prepaid UPS return label so you can return the last defective book to us. Please let me know if you have further questions, blah, blah, blah... Each time they printed a new book it had completely different printing problems than the one before it. At $90 a book, I thought at the very least, it should be printed properly. I decided that Blurb wasn't going to be able to produce our book, so I found (after a lot of searching) another company to do the printing. I had to completely rebuild the book in another software program which took a little more time as you can imagine. They will have the files on Monday and we'll start the process with them, hopefully they'll do a better job than Blurb. It'll be about 2 weeks before the book is returned to me and I'll give you an update on their quality. Sorry for the delay, we'll get there. Bruce
  8. Notice in the video, the shot of the balloon, they put the bottom of the blade on it, not the edge. OK, it's late, step away from the keyboard... Bruce
  9. It means it only works on the playground... Sorry, I couldn't resist. It allows for a flush cut. Doesn't have the tightening screw sticking out in the middle of the blade. Here's a link at Coastal, http://www.coastaltool.com/a/fein/mm_sawing.htm Bruce
  10. You can even use some pictures from this slide show as well. http://picasaweb.google.com/bwsturgill/BookOfCanardsRev3# Bruce
  11. I would agree... to showing segments that is... Bruce
  12. Yes, I am building from the OpenEZ/TerfCD combination. You do have to keep a close eye when printing the templates at a printing facility, making sure they are the correct size. Jon put some measurements on the templates so you can check for accuracy. Lots of forums and list with very smart people out there to help in our journey through the process. Don't forget Rough River! Chris is correct, the FAA does not give a hoot about serial numbers, not needed at all. Draw up your own set if you'd like. It's perfectly legal and there are a lot of partially built planes out there. It will take some time to find the right project for the right price, but it can be worth the effort. I understand wanting to build it yourself though. Jump on in, the water is fine, plenty of life guards on hand and we're not getting any younger. You might contact David Orr aka "Beagle" at canardfinder@att.net he'll be able to help you find one (if available) in your area. Bruce
  13. I did have some peel ply that was reusable a few years back. It cost a lot more and wasn't as effective the second or so time around, could have been operator error, by way of too much epoxy, not sure. Yes, sheets at a bed wetters national convention run off. Al Wick has his Cozy MKIV at Scappoose, a great resource of information and all around good guy. Nice looking and a good flying plane, his was the first Cozy I had the privilege of flying. You'll find him on the Cozy List and the canard-aviators@yahoogroups.com and a couple of others. I'm headed over to Redmond tomorrow to visit with the Lancair folks, so maybe next Friday or Sat we can get some building time in. The sooner we get you started, the quicker you'll start cutting glass and spreading some epoxy of your own. For a little inspiration go have a look at this slide show. The worlds greatest canards! http://picasaweb.google.com/BookofCanards/TheBigBookOfCanards#slideshow Bruce
  14. Hey Windwalker, I'm just across town in Gresham. I'm not building a Cozy, however I'm working on the Open/LongEZ and a single place composite called the Personal Cruiser. If you want to get some epoxy on you and cut some out some ailerons with a Fein tool I could put you to work this weekend. The boss is working Sat and Sun so I get some extra garage time. Give me a shout any time. 503-491-5040 Bruce
  15. Not a Vari or Long, but it is a canard. We'll see if it can hit the stall speeds for LSA flight during the testing phase. With an anticipated price of $194,000, I think the Kit Fox might be a good option. Anybody know what Nat got after he sold his Cozy? http://www.terrafugia.com/ Bruce
  16. From the rate I seem to be getting photos these days, I'd say within a couple of weeks I'll have to stop taking photos. The quality of the pictures are getting better each week. Thinking out loud for a moment... The current page count is at 80 pages and they(Blurb) sell us the book at $75. If I increase the page count by one page to 81, it goes to the next price increase ($89) for the 81-120 page count. That's an extra 40 pages for only $14, but, I'd like to keep the cost down to a somewhat reasonable price for all of us. I don't now if I have enough good shots to fill another 40 pages, a lot are on the cutting room floor now. The pictures that are being sent are really great as you've seen and I hate to not include each one of them, however, some pictures will just not make the cut and some will need to get smaller so I can include more photos if I stick with the 80 page book. It'll all work out... I did get a response from the Speed Canard folks and will include a couple of shots from them, thanks for the idea Chrissi. Bruce
  17. That's one of my favorites as well and was one of the first images I was looking for. Someone sent me that photo and didn't know whose plane it was, thanks for the info Drew. I must have missed these two pages when making the slide show, they'll end up somewhere in the first 2 or 3. I'll have to send Nick an email and see if he's up for it. Bruce
  18. Thanks for the address, I sent him an email. They have some really nice pictures on their site. Bruce
  19. Anyone here have contact with the folks at Speedcanard.de? I'm trying to contact someone to get permission to use some photos for a Coffee table book on canards and would like to include some pictures of the Speed Canard. Unfortunately I don't speak German. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Bruce Sturgill
  20. Thanks Chrissi, they slipped my mind completely. I'll start looking for some shots and if any body knows of a contact be sure to shoot it my way. I have a couple of shots of the Aeriks that are great, but can't seem to make contact with the photographer. That's a beautiful plane as well that I'd like to include. Bruce
  21. Well, actually I've talked with Ken (I think that was his name) at Velocity and he was going to send me a few shots, but, so far nothing yet. I'm even trying to get some from the Aerocanard folks, but, no success yet. I won't let you down Chris, there will be some shots of Velocities in there. I'd like to get a shot of an SQ2000 in the air. The only shot so far is the one on the trailer in the dark, it looks kinda lonely. I'll go to your site and take a look Drew, thanks. From the sounds of things I'll have a few to pick from. I'm at the limit for the number of pages (80) so when I add new pictures some will need to go or get smaller. Bruce
  22. I've had several people inquire about the progress of the book so here's a progress report. Things are going along very well, below is a link to a slide show of the book as of today. It's still a rough layout so far, most of the text is still missing, I've focused my efforts on the photo's thus far, color/exposure correcting, taking out lines, telephone poles, planes, people, trash, etc. With this slide show you'll get to see the quality of the photo's that everyone sent in and boy, are they beautiful. I still have several more photo's headed my way, so some that you see in this draft may not make the next cut or two and the order that they are in will not remain the same, things are still moving around. http://picasaweb.google.com/bwsturgill/BigBookOfCanards#slideshow If you have any questions or comments give me a shout. A great big thanks to everyone that's taken the time to send me your photo's and information. I'll give another update when I get closer to the final draft. Best regards, Bruce Sturgill

    Burt Video

Here's a link to an interesting video of Burt on the subject of space travel and what he thinks is the most impressive airplane ever. Can't remember if this has been around. http://www.ted.com/index.php/talk /burt_rutan_sees_the_future_of_space.html Here's a link of Peter Diamandis discussing the X-Prize, interesting how he raised part of the $10 million, something about a-hole-in-one policy. http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/peter_diamandis_on_our_next_giant_leap.html If these links were posted before, please accept my apologies, I've become a Tedster, excellent site. Bruce
  24. Thanks for the lead Marc, I didn't think about the RR web site. I'll see if it's OK to use some shots in the book. It's up to about 200 pictures, going to look good with all the really good shots people have taken. Bruce
