Yes, ritualistic airplanes noises where made. We'll be traveling home for a couple weeks over Christmas, then I'll be starting CH8 the first of the year!

On a side note, if the main spar is attached to this Cozy III fus, is there a way to take it off and reinstall a new one... I ask this because in Canada, a spar would not be approved if it was not inspected prior to closing... and would need to be rebuilt....

 

It's fiberglass, everything is removable and repairable. Just get comfortable with a sander.

A local Velo builder here in Oz bought a partially completed kit. The spar was installed but no stakes. It was going to cost an additional $8k to ship it as he calls it "top load". He had the owner take a hacksaw to the spar. Everything then fit into a single container with a new spar from Velocity. Even after buying the new spar he saved over $5k. So yes it's doable, but he said he spent hours with a grinder cutting the old one out.

For what it's worth. Here's my scheme.

For smaller general day to day layup:

Disposable Nitrile with latex on top. Change the latex as needed. I do tend to use the Nitrile a few times. I occasionally add baby power to my hands to help get the gloves on as my hands tend to sweat easily.

On larger layups:

If I'm in short sleeves, I coat my arms with barrier cream for the VERY occasional touching of epoxy. Bump of the elbow, drop of epoxy on the forearm sort of thing. I do wipe it off as soon as possible. I've recently started wearing cotton liners to help absorb sweat and let my hands breath. Then a layer of Nitrile and finally latex.

No issues yet, but as Marc's just said, past results can't be used to project future expectations.

My non-A&P mind tells me you'd want to have the option of replacing the nut anytime the wing comes off. It may not need it, but at least you can inspect the nut.

I'll be glass one side of the fuse this weekend. I have a couple questions about glassing the area around the spar cutout. I don't understand the spar layup yet so I'd like some help.

1) Pic 1, Does this tab of the firewall stay on or get cut off? I think it stays on.

2) The acute angle area of foam. Does this need a flox corner to the inside skin?

I may just do it... When do you think the fly-in will be

Thanks all. I'm not sure what direction I'll go, but it gives me something to ponder.

The splitter (hybrid) is interesting, but I really don't anticipate needing to use the hand-held if the others are working. So why spend a lot of $$ if it's not being used at the same time. Question: does the hybrid reduce the range or effectiveness of the antenna?

The third antenna is a possibility, but I don't see a really good place to put it yet. I do like the simplicity of this idea plus is a completely independent system. Another antenna would be cheap if done during construction.

A switch on the panel is something I didn't consider. As long the the antenna and switch are good, it should be isolated from the radios.

Just pondering some future plans.

I plan on putting a com antenna in each winglet and having two radios in the panel.

I'd also like to have the ability to hook up a handheld radio in case say electrical failure. I envision a BNC connector somewhere on or under the panel that could be hook up easily in flight.

What are the suggestions from the gurus?

can I 'Y' off one of the antennas? Put a third antenna in somewhere? Forget the external antenna all together, use the whip antenna on the handheld?

I'm still at least a year off, but just thinking about it tonight. (thinking of building, not actually building because I'm sitting in a hotel in the middle of nowhere Australia)

Looks like other manufactures are finally seeing a market here as well.

Now I have seen real video of RC pilots landing after losing a wing. It's impressive, but a lot of RC acrobatic airplanes are extremely overpowered.
