Was parked on the ramp in a coastal environment and doesn't seem to be flying much (the hours haven't changed).
  10. I saw a question today about overhauling cylinders. What I go by is that one overhaul after a run-out is probably OK. Trying to do a 3rd overhaul might be asking for trouble. They say aluminum dies a little with every heating cycle. I don't know but that's what I go by. I have 760 hrs on new Millenium cylinders but the two cylinders I removed, honed and re-ringed at home show less carbon in the exhausts than the two that were original to the engine. I take that as burning less oil. Pics in my thread somewhere. Just watched this video by Dr. Ali on LP(a). A high LP(a) level is widely seen as an early death sentence but Ali shows evidence that high LP(a) "Lipoprotein a" confers resistance against cancer and rises when the body is healing from traumatic injury.   11. The EZ/Cozy plans are pretty good and after a bit of study to figure out where the last builder left-off, you should have no problem. I break a paragraph into subparts with pencil marks and insure I didn't skip any task or sentence in a paragraph. I imagine you will have to get used to how much micro to use, how much to squeegee a layup, how fast or slow you need to complete the wetout and what a good layup looks like but it doesn't take long to figure that out. The Education chapter covers that. My first layups were over-squeegeed and I could see that by looking at the layup with a strong magnifier--I could see strands of glass that looked like little bridges with epoxy underneath. A good layup should have epoxy between the strands but not pooling on the surface. (I did not toss those parts 🙂 ). Yeah, it would build confidence to do an initial layup with an experienced builder but it's not absolutely required.

  14. Just looking at the new Vans Lycoming engine pricelist (pic). Wow--and these are sold at a discount to Vans builders, I believe. They can be had a lot cheaper from the rebuilders but I wonder if the price of avgas and engines will bring out a good water-cooled auto-based engine. This is getting ridiculous.
  15. Yeah, post your pics here. I can edit them out after a while. The aircraft is still known in the FAA Registry (pic) so you should be able to get the AWC reissued when it is all finished after a fairly cursory inspection by the FAA or a DAR. The bigger problem could be that that the current owner is shown as Electronic Warfare Associates. In order to get title you have to show a legal chain of title from EWA. As Marc said, it could be lots of hours but way less work than building from scratch so that's a plus. It could seem intimidating for a first-time builder but my first-time-builder friend repaired the nose and canard he ripped off his Cozy. If you don't like the nose, just saw it off and build a new one.
  16. It _was_ an ordinary EZ at one time so could probably be put back to that. It appears to be configured with a taller and longer turtleback maybe to house test equipment so the turtleback/canopy and back seat might need rebuilding. Pretty easy to do on a composite airplane. It’s going to need refinishing, rewiring, avionics, engine, cowl work, prop. You just hope the wings, canard, strakes are in good condition and just need a little TLC. There is probably 300-400 hours of work to be done there. I don’t see any show-stoppers but I’d want to see more a lot more pics before I’d travel from Kansas. 🙂
  17. I saw this airplane (N999TD) advertised maybe 5-7 years ago looking very neglected. It seems to have started life as an ordinary EZ, then was outfitted as a drone or test-bed by Electronic Warfare Associates, then sold-on to the Manteo, NC owner who was trying to sell it then. Appears he did some work on it. I suppose something could be done with it. More pics in the ad. (Barnstormers)
  18. I built an EZ from those plans. That dimensional difference will not matter. A 1/16"-deep wave in a wing _would_ matter but the act of cutting wing foam with a hotwire that is hotter than normal or using wire that is bigger than needed will melt away a bit more foam than otherwise giving a similar result. Also, make yourself some extra copies you can cut up and glue to templates. I like Formica. Can usually find some scraps at the Habitat stores.

  21. Yes, the seats are moderately comfortable even with no foam. You will notice that I scalloped-out the side foam where the forearms hit. That was like adding 1.5" to the cockpit width.
  22. I wouldn't think it would be necessary. Some quite large people fly EZs. You can also build your armrests to allow more room at the hips (pics). I also ordered a somewhat larger canopy but in the end, I don't think I needed it. It was just a bigger drag-shape.

Neither do I but I am going to find out. There are several important cholesterol tests that the docs don't test for unless they are current on the latest cholesterol research. I've had two blockages/stents and my docs have never tested me for LP(a) or the one below. I read that about 1/3 to 1/4 of the population has this genetic propensity to coronary artery disease so having a bad LP(a) increases risk quite a bit. Another thing that isn't routinely tested is LDL fractionation. The LDL number you get on a traditional test lumps various sized LDL particles into one number but it is the small dense LDL (sdLDL) that seems to be critical to CAD and some people have a lot of it. The fractionation test separates and counts the sdLDL particles. Lots of videos about this. You can walk into Quest or Labcorp and get the test for about $200-240.   24. Yeah, I've seen that before. It must have some vibration-control function but I bet it is minimal. The two rubber donuts are clamped together on the steel center bushing that is inside the rubbery stuff so I expect most of the flexing is in the larger donuts. I think I have seen Vans owners asking about the "rubbery material leaking out of [my] engine mounts". 🙂 Nothing to fret over, I guess.
