Build Space

I'm Looking to order plans and get started Shortly on an (expected) Cozy Mk4.  Where I'm at currently, I have no garage to work in, and will be starting "from Scratch".

I've already got on the waiting list for a Hanger at the airport, and am looking at a "Shop Space" where I could build... But moving is also an option.  What's the size of door opening I'll need to get the plane in and out to include the Stakes stage.

All this in mind, I'd also do the wings, but not have them attached until its moved to the airport (Expected 1 Year wait list..)

Could I get the build to the point of transport to airport with everything else done, or am I missing something?

Thank-you

Ben S

A Cozy can be maneuvered out a one-car garage door by tilting and turning with the nose on a dolly.    A two-car garage-size building space is probably enough to build most of the airplane but you must have a big space to drill-in the wings and fair them to the strakes  and fit the cowls.  I would quiz your airport on what they will allow;  best to get that straight early.   The FAA only demands accommodation of “final assembly”. I think  most people build at home.

Ben, the best thing you can do to create an aircraft is to get hangar space at the last possible time you can. In other words, building in your basement or any other room, even outside with a temporary canvas shelter, is far better than needing to drive to where your tools and such are.

As Kent points out, some airports are difficult/unfriendly to homebuilders. You could keep on the waiting list, and just keep putting yourself at the bottom every time your name comes up.
