Cozy1200
How and what type of antenna should be installed for the new 406mz ELT? I don't see any reason for me to install the old 121.5. jpolenek
Based on the write-up in RST's antenna kit, a garden-variety copper foil dipole with 6.3" ears should work. (l=2575/F.) Joe Polenek Quote Joe Cozy Mk IV #1550
David Staten
I would use the manufacturer's recommendation and install it inside the cabin. In a crash, planes tumble.. cartwheel... bulkheads crack. Wings shear, floors buckle. I would rather not add having to worry if the copper tape antenna survived on whatever surface it was bonded to. If you had to roll your own, I'd make a metal whip, 1/2 wave or full wave... Something that doesn't require a ground plane, and have the whip inside the cabin somewhere.. behind the seats.. something.
Lifessamsara
If my calc's are correct, the full wavelength is: 2.3644 ft Very do'able as an internally fitted whip. Bruce
