Cozy1200 Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 How and what type of antenna should be installed for the new 406mz ELT? I don't see any reason for me to install the old 121.5. Quote Drew Chaplin (aka the Foam Whisperer) --- www.Cozy1200.com - I'm a builder now! --- Brace for impact...
jpolenek Posted January 3, 2009 Posted January 3, 2009 Based on the write-up in RST's antenna kit, a garden-variety copper foil dipole with 6.3" ears should work. (l=2575/F.) Joe Polenek Quote Joe Cozy Mk IV #1550
David Staten Posted January 4, 2009 Posted January 4, 2009 I would use the manufacturer's recommendation and install it inside the cabin. In a crash, planes tumble.. cartwheel... bulkheads crack. Wings shear, floors buckle. I would rather not add having to worry if the copper tape antenna survived on whatever surface it was bonded to. If you had to roll your own, I'd make a metal whip, 1/2 wave or full wave... Something that doesn't require a ground plane, and have the whip inside the cabin somewhere.. behind the seats.. something. Quote
Lifessamsara Posted January 5, 2009 Posted January 5, 2009 If my calc's are correct, the full wavelength is: 2.3644 ft Very do'able as an internally fitted whip. Bruce Quote
