IO-360 + Mt CS prop help

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Im new to this forum so i asking for some advice on how much to sell my motor for. I have it posted on barnstormers, but everyone who calls is looking for a tractor prop, and this is off a Cozy, so i fiure i post here and other canard forums. I got the motor and prop as a complete deal with my velocity, but i am going to be building the plane for a while and do not need the motor and prop at this time. Im thinking about going diesel or rotary but that will be a while from now. Anyways, anyone intrested in the motor or prop, please drop me a line or reply with some questions and answers so i can get a proper estimate as to what this motor it worth so i can ebay it. The motor and prop has complete books and records.

Time on motors 150 smoh. IO-360, fuel injected, putting out 209+ hp (what prevous owner said it dynod at) . no alternator, starter new in box, engine mounts, injectors, flywheel, most accesories included, except alternator. Engine has the decadence plug on one set to keep moisture out during storage. Also complete set of digital intruments available for monitoring engine temp and rpm. Post more about the electroncis later.

Prop is an mt Aluminum Constant speed with govenor and 6 inch prop extention and spinner. I will measure diameter tomorrow and post. Time on prop : 75 since new.

I will upload pix and more details tomorrow. I am in san jose, Ca and the motor and prop is at my shop for inspection prior to sale. I would prefer to sell both as one unit and not break up the motor and govenor, but i will seperate if needed. I have a great account with fed ex freight and i can get shipping pretty cheap. (they shipped my complete velocity and motor from florida to california for $1200)

Thanks in advance for any help.

pm me or send me an email if you have question. or post a reply and il ry to answer as best i can.

Need model number of engine, type fuel injection, type of starter, don't believe the 209 hp unless You can say why it would have that much. and why the 150 hrs? what was it on and when? why removed? overhauled by who? and when?

the prop model? size? how many blades? where did it get the 75 hrs. and when was it new? the alum not that good for cozy. heavy. model of governor and mounted on front or back of engine?

Evolultion Eze RG -a two place side by side-200 Knots on 200 HP. A&P / pilot for over 30 years

The HP is believable----but at what RPM? Usually your Lycs are spec'd at 2700 rpm---but rebuilders will dyno at something like 2900 RPM. With those specific numbers in mind, you would get 169 HP at 2700 RPM using the following well known equation:

HP1/HP2=(RPM1/RPM2)^3

I guess that is sort of like saying your airspeed is 200. Is that knots or MPH? Is that indicated or True?

Hi all, sorry for such a long delay in posting any info about the motor and prop. I have a logbook scan of both motor and prop so email me and i can forward to you. Pictures will be posted on monday. Hopefully, i can get a video of it running and get that posted some time mid week or later. I was missing parts for the engine stand so its been sitting in the crate till today. Here is some info for anyone intrested. Direct from the log book.

Model io-360-x

Manufacture Avo-Lycomin-BPA.

Serial L-3776-36a.

Converted to Fuel injection and updraft by Barret Performance Aircraft, 2870 b-n sheridan rd. tulsa, OK 74115 (1989)

Type of fuel injection and starter i will take a peek at it and a picture on monday. Starter is brand new in a box though, just installed it this afternoon.

(from log book)"Engine run on test cell, all perameters normal, STD ATM, dry air power is 209 HP @ 2800 full throttle, leaned to best power, compression check #1 70/80 #2 72/80 #3 73/80 #4 75/80"

Overhaul was done by BPA

It was installed on a LONG EZ. L-7??? not familiar with original long model 's but that what was listed on log book L-7.

Mags are Slick

Has cht and exhaust sensors installed.

Prop Model is mtv-12-c three blade aluminium props. blade model # is ld162-39. I dont know the diameter or pitch but i can measure and let you know. I dont know how to measure the pitch, but if someone is willing to explane , i can get that info posted as well. Maybe you can extract that info from the blade model # and post on my behalf.

Spinner is in great condition.

Prop govenor is a hartzel and installed on motor.

Most all other info can be obtined though the logbooks so feel free to drop me a line and i can forward the scans to you.

So, just for planning purposed what might one expect to pay for the motor and prop described above. Not that I am ready to buy, but if I should trip over one in the next few years.....

I am thinking of starting a fund for the motor purchase and the avionics purchase, much the same as one would set aside a set amount for each hour flown to be used for a rebuild/re-manufacture.

So, if motor/prop cost = $15,000USD divided by 24 months to build I get to save $625/month. Same for avionics. :( Makes the airframe build cost look small. Sell car, sell motorcycle, buy nothing else for two years, max out the EAA Visa card. Makes me want to cry... Now I know why all your projects take 6 years.

You just hit the nail on the head. I havent worked on my cozy for almost 2 months now mostly because of money. I bought a motor 0360 with straite mounts. I promised the wife I would not take on anymore debt until the motor is paid off. So my project sits while I earn money to pay the motor off. I still think I can get it done in 5 years if the economy does not totally tank in my area of the world. STeve build on
