Cozy2do
Just want to ask what are your experiences with RST Engineering? The reason is I placed order with them more than 3 weeks ago and so far nothing. The lady I talked to took all my card info etc.. and said it would ship in couple of days. About 10 days after my order, since I didn't receive anything, I called couple times and finally left a message. Received no reply. Couple days later tried calling again - got the voice mail again.... decided to send email message... now it is another week and more messages later...and nothing. Anybody got any ideas????? John Slade
RST is a bit of a "mom & pop" setup. The owner, Jim Weir is VERY knowledgeable, but not always easy to reach. I'd recommend keep trying. They're good people. John Quote I can be reached on the "other" forum http://canardaviationforum.dmt.net

TLCair
Do NOT order from these people. I put in an order in early Feb. Nothing for two weeks. I called and left answering machine messages- no reply. I emailed (from two different accounts, in case it was getting "lost") and no reply. Finally reached someone (a male) exactly a month later. I asked about my item, and was told it was backordered. I said "come on, you couldn't send an email, anything? All I wanted to know was what was going on". The guy just got p*ssed and said "I'm refunding your money" and banged the phone down. IS THAT HOW YOU TREAT CUSTOMERS??? GOOD TO KNOW!! And here's how I treat a vendor who does that: I post on every single forum I can find about my experience, to let others know that you will not receive your item, you will not be updated, and you will not be treated fairly. Good luck to you RST! Avoid this "mom and pop" bunch. Just want to ask what are your experiences with RST Engineering? The reason is I placed order with them more than 3 weeks ago and so far nothing. TLCair
Maybe you believe them to be good people, but unfortunately this is a business, and they have zero business acumen. Hanging up on a customer is really something else. (please see my reply to previous post) RST is a bit of a "mom & pop" setup. The owner, Jim Weir is VERY knowledgeable, but not always easy to reach. Cozy1200
I've ordered from RST twice and both times had no problems. I have heard that Jim is not that tolerable of people. Good business practice? NO. But in reality he is running a small niche business and constantly being bombarded by people looking for free/cheap advice. I've seen some of Jim's posts of electronics boards and it's not always pretty. If you need his product, you'll just have to tolerate it, otherwise look elsewhere. But in his line of work I'm not sure there's that many options. Quote Drew Chaplin (aka the Foam Whisperer) --- www.Cozy1200.com - I'm a builder now! --- Brace for impact... dpaton
Jim trades people skills for technical acumen. He occupies a very narrow niche in the industry, not served by anyone else. How many other companies let homebuilders build their own aircraft electronics? Radios, NAV/COMs, marker beacon receivers and audio panels and antennae are indeed useful, and he's forgotten more about the systems than most of us will ever know. That said, I've met him enough times to think he's real good people, and deserves patience in business. He's probably sick and tired of people asking for handouts, like Drew mentioned. He used to write awesome articles about the things he sells. The website still has schematics (and sometimes PCB layouts) for the previous version of a lot of the things they sell/sold, including the old COM and NAV/COM radio kits. I think a lot of folks expect something for nothing now, and he's still trying to make some scratch from the business. That said, in my nearly 20 years(!) of on and off dealings with him and RST, I've never been let down. Be patient, it's mostly him and a helper in his garage if I understand correctly. Phil Kriley
The materials I ordered arrived when promised. He answered an e-mail about a question I had. I have no problems with RST at all and would recommend them to anyone. The drawings he includes with the antenna kits are worth the cost, IMHO. It's like getting the antenna materials for free. TLCair
I'm glad you're all defending this person. Maybe that will keep him afloat. I, however, was not looking for a handout. I ordered an item off a website, with the anticipation of a product being delivered. Even the worst websites SHIP PRODUCT UPON CHARGING. That's what doesn't seem to sink in. I'm waiting, paid my money, and nothing. My suggestion: BANNER the online website with a note about delays, and DO NOT put in the charge until the item ships. That's business. Ok, I'm outta here. Fair sky and winds, all. Quote: He's probably sick and tired of people asking for handouts, like Drew mentioned. He used to write awesome articles about the things he sells. TMann
I will add this: I would caution you as to bashing a business in a public forum such as this. Some vendors will react in much the same manner as Jim did when pressured. Other's still may refuse to take your order from the start.
