    redundancy

did not mean to hijack Goatherders thread But anyway would like to hear from you how one feels about redundancy Redundancy is a very interesting topic. How far should one go ? Starting with two alternators, feeding two batteries, two ignition systems (one electronic and one mag??), double engine management instruments? Should one work with a double bus? Suppose a verticalpower unit such as VP200 is installed. Would you still build redundancy in here aswell, like having an emergency bypass if the VP200 cuts out? Double GPS for sure, I dont want to get lost. Double EFIS, Double radio's ? Transponder? Autopilot ( I guess not if this one fails it is allways possible to handfly ) But other stuff such as brakes, in this USAF report on the Long EZ, brakes were mentioned as a critical issue. So how about installing back up in this department ? back up back up back up. It is very much like backing up your IT system, it s all worthless, untill the system does fail and the back up saves your neck. But how far should one go ????? Ronny :D :D Did not build any redundancy into my marriage, one wife is more than enough !!

  3. Chis, Congratulations with your son, children is the best thing that can happen to a person. It is sooooo much fun to see him grow up and to teach him all sorts of things. But beware all the bad habits you have you will see them again in your child, and that is soooo much fun, you will be wipping his backside for exactly the same naughty things you used to do. He s a lucky child to be able to fly a velocity before he gets out of his dipers merry christmas Ronny :D :D
  4. Merry Christmas to all Glad somebody noticed. Indeed the thread is new, but damn after reading it all twice I am still confused. It s good I still have a few months Ronny :D :D
  5. Hi David Thanks for pointing me to that thread of the RV-boys Must say there is indeed a lot to read there, unfortunately the thread is old, and in the world of EFIS things are moving along at warp speed. But still it s all very interesting to read Thanks Ronny :D :D
  6. Hi all, Over the last weeks I have been looking at several systems. So far I v been able to narrow it down to a shortlist of two. MGL Voyager and Dynon Skyview SV-D1000. Both are similar in size Has anybody got some experience with these systems? Would run it all linked to a VerticalPower VP200 unit. anyway, all have a nice Christmass eve Ronny :D :D

    The ideal panel

I like the idea of Fred Going VFR but having the IFR capability just in case of an emergency What would you incorporate in the ideal panel? Just trying to get as many ideas and opinions. Started saving pics from all the EZ panels I can find on the web, there is a wide variety to be seen Thanks for the help Ronny :D :D

    O-235 vs O-320

Vibrations is an issue isn t it. Are there special engine mountings being used to dampen the engine vibrations? I know from Waiters post that dynamic balancing of the prop is a major factor in reducing vibrations. But based on my experience of engine vibratons in the industry, it is also important to use engine mountings that absorb vibrations. These Dynafocal mounts, forgive me my stupid question, is "Dynafocal" just a type of mountings or is it one specific brand? Ronny :D :D
  9. Hi all, I have been reading about serveral guys moving away from mags and installing electroninc ignition on their Lycomings. Why isn t this standard issue yet. Looking at the automotive world, the move to electronic ignition has happened many years ago and these systems have been perfected to the extreme. Also noticed on some posts that some have installed two different electronic ignitions on their engines, why would that be? Thanks Ronny :D :D
  10. Hi Neil, That is very interesting 400F is nice and warm Have a look at this websit http://www.aeroeliservizi.it/index2.html These guys install carbon covers on O 320 engines on their helicopters. Or is it that helicopters run a lot cooler? Ronny :D :D

Fred sounds impressive, so you ll go full IFR The verticql power VP-50 can you explain what it realy brings to the show? thx Ronny :D :D

    O-235 vs O-320

What are the items to be considered when transplanting a O 320 into the EZ? The engine mounting of course (by the way what s the difference between conical and dynafocal mounts ? which ones are used on the EZ? But what are the other items of concern ? Cooling ? Oil cooling ? Appreciate your comments Thx Ronny :D :D

    O-235 vs O-320

Very interesting to see that these carbon fiber cylinderhead covers have been produced. Most likely I will install a O 320 on the Long EZ. But even then I also wanna save every poung/kg I can to make it even better. Thanks for the link to the Italian company. Regards Ronny :D :D

    O-235 vs O-320

Weight is an issue with all planes, aspecially the canards carrying this heavy lump in the back. An O-320 weighs about 30LB's (13.6kg) more than a O-235 Would it be possible to lighten a O-320 to the weight of a O-235. I.e. put it on a 15 kg diet. Aren''t there parts, brackets and other stuff such ass covers that can be produced from light materal such as carbon fiber of titanium. Thanks Ronny :D :D

    N369r

Hi all, I just bought this Long EZ, N369R Currently in Germany, guess it s ben there for a few years. But I woul like to find out about it's past and previous owners/pilots If anybody has some info or pics, I d be very thankfull. Thanks Ronny:D

    The ideal panel

STeve You are right budget is a factor here. I d love to have the headsup display. Serious I want the panel to look sexy and easy to use. Just a super cazy thought. On the display one can get the artifical horizon stuff on top of the GPS or the synthetic forward view or whatever. Would it be possible to put it on top of video images. It can not be a big deal to put a forward facing cameralens in the nose and stream those images onto the display as background for the artifical horizon stuff. This would be soooo hot for the person in the back, since you dont realy have a good view forward. Ronny Maybe it s the wine or the cognac after diner

    The ideal panel

Hi guys Dynon skyview indeed looks hot, two displays would do the trick nicely. MGL Odyssey also looks hot, no idea about their prices yet. Ronny :D :D
  18. Hi All I am in the lucky situation of being the new owner of a nice sexy Long EZ Only the panel is slightly out of date. I would like to install a superb to of the bill glass cockpit panel I am running a LycomingO-235 engine What would you propose? Full option including auto pilot thanks Ronny :D :D
  19. Thanks guys, will start reading Ronny
  20. Hi All The Long EZ I just bought has the short big rudders on the winglets. I understand this is of an older design and been replaced with a higher performance version. This triggers the question in my mind. maybe there s other modifications, important mods which might or might not have been carried out. My question, where do I find a list and all the details of modifications that are or were required Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Small detail : I live in Belgium, have no idea if there is an EAA chapter here Thx Ronny
  21. Woow this is one sexy prop. Is it available for pushers? Has anybody tried it on a Long EZ ? O-235 Thx Ronny
  22. Thanks Guys, Oh yes i will certainly get in touch with Gary. So as far as I read your last comments it is all, about keep it light and crispy. On the subject of keeping it light, is it an option to look at reducing weight. "Modern" materials such as titanium, carbon fiber, special Alu alloys etc allow us to look at lower weight for higher strengths. Is this an option on a Long EZ ? Anybody gone this route? (I just happen to own an engineering shop, hence have all the high tech lathes and mills of this world available) Just a thought The O-235 is a given fact, are there ways to get the max performance out of this engine? Swapping the gauges for a glass cockpit apart from looking sexy is it a weightsaver? anyway thanks for the help Ronny:D
  23. Hi everybody, I have an M 462 RF engine, Is this worth anything, guess it needs overhaul, will post some pics tomorrow It s similar to an M14P, used in Yak amongst others Thx Ronny
  24. Guys, Anybody have any idea how warm/hot the rocker covers get? I was actually thinking of getting them done in carbonfiber. thx Ronny
  25. Wayne Thank you for the advice, where can I find Gary Hertzler And feel free to congratulate me, I just agreed to the purchase of a LOng EZ O-235, N369R I am afraid I will need to harrass and abuse this board more with all the questions I will have Ronny :p :p I will check the performance with the current fixed pitch prop and take it from there, but yes of course I will contact Gary Hertzler
