  1. My fuel valve is on the firewall and the handle is above my right shoulder. (At least I don't have to let go of the stick to change tanks.) I bought the project partially complete and that's where it was. The original builder did a beautiful job of it, it works quite smoothly and no great bodily gyrations to get at it. Regardless of where you put it, be sure you can operate it easily. The time you absolutely NEED to get at it is going to be the wrong time and one not of your choosing.
  2. Would it be inappropriate to post the terf poh here? (hopefully and edit-able copy) I could use an updated copy myself.
  3. A tarp. Good advice. As for fuel, I can always fly somewhere locally for fuel and if there happens to be someone in the back seat when I go, so be it.
  4. This will be my first RR and the first trip for the Long. Apart from the obvious things I should bring, coffee, tent, sleeping bag, camera, water (notice I put my list in order of priority). Are there any other absolute musts? How difficult is food to obtain in the park? It will be just myself so I do have the back seat to pack.
  5. Crazy, If you can manage it, get a 2 car garage. Insulate it for the winter months and lay cheap/used carpet on the floor for more insulation value. Heat the space independently (i.e., do not duct heat from the house furnace) Avoid building in the basement except for metal parts. Something that is not mentioned often is the amount of dust you will generate when building. It gets everywhere and settles on everything. Your wife may not thank you for your forward thinking by building in the garage but she won't divorce you. (She might if you run a sander for hours on end in the basement and leave a fine white powered on everything you have in the house.) If you want to see the problem first hand, come see my hanger. 6. PS: I'm with Edge 513. The EZ is not a great IFR platform but the question was, can you fit IFR equipment in the panel and the answer is yes. As much as your wallet can handle.
  7. Modern avionics puts a lot of information in a very small space. As an example, the Dynon D180 puts all flight instruments and engine instruments in a package 7" wide by 5" high. Couple this to a Garmin SL30 at 1.3" high and you've got NAV/COM/LOC and GS that displays on the D180's HSI. Add a GPS/COM such as any of the Garmins and that can couple to the D180 as well. Add the autopilot servos and you're away to the races. Dynon is only one example of the many EFIS that are available today. Blue Mountain, Grand Rapids, MGL, Chelton, Avidyne, and Garmin are just a few more. http://www.rivetbangers.com/BuilderResources.shtml is a fairly good list of manufacturers. 8. Harry, I have the exact same system so I'm interested in what you have done. Unfortunately, I can't see the pics from either link. Can you attached them here? Neil
