  1. Hey,

Just my 2 cents here. I layed out a centerline on my jig table and pull all my measurements from this reference. After the parts started to come together, I transfered this line as well as a permanent level line to the fuselage. I'm not as anal as some on here but if you have a good reference point, you can build anything straight and true. The templates get you close and the line gets you on the money! I've built race cars, street rods to dune buggys this way and it works. All your race car chasis builders work this way. Try it! The main thing is get started and build it. You can go to my site for tips on how to build a table and its free. http://www.free-build-it-info.com/Surfaceplate.html

  2. Hello all,

I'm building a modified longe EZ / Berkut style plane and Im working off the Terf CD. What I need is the template drawing for the NG 30 bulkhead or a pdf format that I can enlarge / get the exact measurements from for the hard points and foam. Please PM me or respond here if you can help! :feedback:

    Thanks

  3. Jon,

I found a cheap way to weight things down was to save up old milk and orange juce jugs with the screw on caps. After washing them out, I filled them up with water and they work well. I keep about 12 of them and the weigh about 9lbs each and store under the bench easily also. They are also easy to grab with the built in handle. I used them with the bulk heads and place a piece of plywood over the peel ply and the jugs on top.

Just a little trick I found. On with the build!

  4. Follow up!

After living in CR for 4 years, I know for a fact that you will have to pay around 50% import duties on the plane and then you will go thru H*** to get it registered and out of customs. You have to have a lawyer and a customs agent . Have you checked about if you can even license an experimental in CR? . There has to be a title as we know it from here to get it registered there! Good lawyers there are few and far between. Beleve me I know! I went thru h*** just to ge a dune buggy thru vehicle inspection so I could drive it on the road.

You really need to check this out before you move on it. You cannot get anything such as parts fiberglas etc there. You have to import it all and the taxes can go as high as 100% if they want to stick it to you and there is no fighting them. I E you will double the cost easily and then have a lawyer to pay at the end! :yikes: :yikes: :yikes:

    Think about it

  5. Who is the guy in Costa Rica? I used to live there and I was wondering if it was another scam. Please let me know or PM me. Dont want you to get burned!

  6. Newbie question here!

I am about to start my Long / Berkut project and am after basically the same thing. Speed! Could you also substitute the cozy wings and spar (since this is all new construction) and make the spar to the EZ dimensions and then carbon both? Would this change a lot or be more stabil in flight than the Long EZ wings?

Just curious (and now putting on fire suit):scared:

I'm onboard with this also. I think we are going to see a lot more builds starting. (Me for one) All those interested should get behind Jon and Tony with whatever they need!

  8. "Are you planning on making more than one fuselage? Or are you doing it for another reason?"

I think it will be easier to get the sizes I am after, build firewall to nose in one shot and once its laid up on the inside, making the templates will be a snap. Also I will leave it in the plug as long as I can to keep it straight as well as strong. Once all is done inside I can pop it out and lay up the outside.

    "Call them."

Already did an e mail and they said wait and if it doesnt come they will send another. This time I'll ask for ups or fed ex!

"Interesting... I'm curious how much money something like that generates? I might have stumbled on that before."

I built it about 9 months ago as an affiliate site but it was minimal at best. I just took off all of the links and am in process of adding an e bay site shopping cart for all things related to it such as tools, house wares, kitchen etc. This way I have control and can track everything. All drop shipping!

The Google ads are the best so far and will be funding a lot of the plane. I highly recommend them both for your site. Google search and Google ads. Best part is its free to set up and they do all the work. Click me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    LOL

"You can learn on your own once you get the TERF CD. "

I know but I would like to get some hands on first if I can. I 'm sure I can hook up with someone. I got the practice kit and we can use it if they are not building. We'll see!

  9. Jon,

Lookin forward to seeing the work, I am getting the shop set up now and am in the process of building the jig table for my plug mold. I bought 6 levelers from Lee Valley and they will make getting the table right a lot easier. Thanks for the tip :) Best part so far is I got all the materials free from construction site dumpsters where they threw away new materials!

Still waiting on my Terf CD. I think it got lost in the mail. Been 2 weeks now. Also, as soon as I get going, I will post a new page and pics for the build on my site at http://www.free-build-it-info.com/index.html

And finally, I'm still lookin for someone local to learn layups :scared:

  10. Hello everyone,

I'm Tom Gillespie and I live in Port Charlotte Fla. Just moved back here from Costa Rica. I've been lurking for a while and have done a few posts. I'm looking for a local builder to help maybe a couple of times so I can learn proper layups, vacuum bagging etc. I dont mind driving an hour or so or within reason. If you need some free help for some layups, e mail me and we will go from there.

I hope to get started on my project about the middle of March and have already ordered the Terf CD and am getting the "hanger" ready for the build. I have a lot of experience from building my own race cars for drag racing, working in Nascar for 5 years, a year on a top fuel team and have been a contractor for over 25 years.

I have really enjoyed following everyones posts and all the info that comes from here and this is what pushed me to start.

  11. Hello ,

I attended the air show here yesterday and and enjoyed it a lot. :P I spent about 2 hours and there were 2 canards in attendance. One was a Veri , pretty old that belonged to one of the EAA 565 members and is flown a lot and the other was a very nice and well thought out detailed Long. I spent a lot of time getting a good look at it and the owner is a great guy and very informative. It was very motivating.

Getting ready to turn on the build switch!
