    I read about this outfit in AOPA Magazine and thought it is a great hardware reference site, if not outlet for us builders.

     

    Incidentally, for our builders in Down Under, they have outlets in NZ and Oz.

  2. I have my MGS in a hotbox with a single 60W bulb. Temp avg. 105F.

     

    It must be nice to have the ability to control the temperature. The epoxy loves high temp environments as it spreads so easily. Just don't sweat on the part during layups. :)

     

    IIRC, older epoxy have trouble with high humidity.

  3. Good timing Remi! I was going to fly into RR w/Rick, but my plans have just changed -- I need to leave Denver earlier than expected.

    Thanks for the offer Jon, but I was responding to the original poster, Luke. It seems to me that he needs to experience canard flights first hand to validate his decision. I thought he is from Colorado, based on his posting, so I referred him to Rick Maddy for a ride-share to RR.

     

    I'll be driving to RR with Terry Yake again. It will be so nice to see the gang, hope you'll make it Jon.

  4. Great! Thank you all for the responses so far. I think i have been officially swayed to do the Long-EZ / Open-EZ (well, that may change, I seem to flip-flop a lot...). Anyone know what the normal "efficient" cruse GPH and airspeed will be in a 0-320 powered Long?

     

    I will be doing a lot of landings at fairly high altitudes (Colorado). Anyone have any experience with the Long-EZ "hot and high"? I know the canard design eats runway, but I am not sure just how much. I actually have family right near Leadville, CO....

    If you want first-hand answers to your questions, and possibly get a ride, I urge you to attend the Rough River fly-in coming up in 2 weeks. There is a builder in Denver, Rick Maddy, that's flying out in a 4-seat Diamond composite.

  6. Hi, my name is Remi and I'm a ratio pump user. ;)

     

    It is difficult to determine the exact amount of resin/hardener used since I also fill up the resin bin before use and alter the fast and slow hardener ratio based on the season and layup size.

     

    The Wicks order clerk gets pretty confused when my epoxy order does not comply with the recommended 2 hardeners per gallson.

  7. You have quite a selection amongst the canard family.

     

    There are side-by-side arrangement with the Cozys, the ERacer, and the Velocity. It's a matter of choice if you want cargo room in the back seats. My primary mission for the Cozy is to fly 2 in the front seat with lots of cargo space in the back seat and the ability to haul a*s on xc flights.

     

    If your mission profile is mostly for solo long xc flights, I would especially look at the Berkut or the Long EZ. The Berkut is mostly of carbon fiber and therefore stiffer, which translate into rougher turbulence penetration.

     

    A long time Long EZ flyer friend intimated that he upgraded to the O-320 so he can keep up with his EZ buddies when flying formation. I suppose it sucks being the one bringing up the rear or causing the flight to slow down waiting for you.

     

    As I progress in my build, it's apparent that the numerous mods will add weight which translates into slower speed, aside from the increased build time, hence delay in taking flight.

     

    The above are but opinions based not on facts.

  8. I concur... for want of showing my friends and colleagues "the plane I'm building", Brian DeFord's plane/website is what I'd load up. It is truly a beautiful plane and AFAIK the only website with numerous completed plane photos.

     

    I wish there is a depository of flying Cozy aircrafts on one site showing both interior and exterior shots.

  9. I've played with Curt's Cozy IV model on my XPlane 8.17 the past three days. The model is fast, and extremely twitchy when I have it configured to full realism.

     

    It's a lot of fun and challenging flying in the traffic pattern. Speed management is quite an eye opener for me, a C-172 and PA28-180 pilot. I'm not sure what the power settings are for the real Cozy, but I would appreciate some settings for landing the slippery cus. I've had to pull throttle to idle turning base and dump the landing brake just to get below 100kts.

  10. Pure conjecture of course, but it appears that Wright made his fuselage from molded composite, perhaps there are some additional buildup elsewhere that allow for the elimination of the seat back and heat duct.

  11. Does anyone know if there is an approved procedure for the replacement of aileron hinges on a Vari-eze? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have one hinge that is beginning to get a little sloppy and need to begin planning a fix. :(

  12. I might be wrong but aren't the Cozy seatback and the heat duct structural components? Do they (seatback and heat duct) provide some measure of horizontal and longitudinal strengthening?

     

    What would happen if those structures are eliminated or weakened??
