  1. I used Australian Hoop Pine as it is an approved substitute for Spruce. It was available locally and cost about $30. It was marginally heavier, something like a few percent.

  2. I once heard a rumor that there is a certain bay known for pirates...where some very interesting things come down in torrents.

    ARRGH ! !

Not that I endorse or approve such a thing, but I guess it was just a matter of time until that happened.

    Merry Christmas you all.

  4. ...

Someone posted a picture of their two singles solution (but it was engineered for this when they built it. The covenants required single garage doors so he designed it with a support header for a double and then made a center section that could be removed (tracks and all) when the doors were in the raised position.

After the Hurricane Katrina, many states adopted new building codes requiring a single header to go completely over both doors clear to the wall. The single header may to be put in anyways. So structurally one door and two doesn't matter. If this is the case, building the center column to be removed is very doable. Maybe not easy done, but you'll be doing it rarely.

    ...

Most likely that would not be a solution for you but it is interesting how creative some builders are.

If two single doors are required, then simple get wider doors. They're available in about any width and height you want. Heights are avialable in 3" increments and widths in about anything you need, but normally 1 or 2 foot increments. I don't know you'd need to get a cozy on it's wheels, but on an incline should be doable.

  5. Agreed ..... what are you using for brushes?

    chip brushes from Harbour Freight.

    http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=4181

They normally have them on sale for $6.99. I use them probably 6 times until the get too stiff to be useful... or I forget to clean them.

I only use white vinegar to clean epoxy related stuff. I keep a small plastic mixing tub (with lid) about half full with vinegar. When done with a brush, I jab the bristles a dozen or so times in the bottom to help brake up the epoxy covered bristles. Then let them soak while I clean up the rest of the tools. Then I wrap the brush in a paper towel to dry for a couple days. I probably have 4-5 brushes in various uses at any given time. A couple drying, a couple ready to be used, a couple hard as rocks because I forgot to clean them. whoops. I use lots of Z fold bathroom style paper towel. Years ago Mom picked up a ton of that stuff from a business that was going bankrupt.

  6. Naw, Scott took my idea. :bad: Seriously, I used to do this router stuff for fun on wood. It just came to me one day. I thought I'd just show it to you for fun.

I bet you used a router on your bulkheads too! I know a lot of people say it's too much work, but I never said that the only way. I use the tools and methods that I'm comfortable with and have used in the past.

  7. but I was wondering if there are any pointers about how many of the chapters to order initially.

    Ch4-9 was my first order

Are there any materials that I should just bulk order and if so how much? I am planning to go with the MGS epoxy system, newer version.

Check with AirHeart for MGS, I believe they are the North American distributor.

Don't order cloth with the chapter kits. They will cut that amount for each chapter, order the amount you want and remove it from the individual chapters.

double check the front 3/4" seatback foam, ASS had twice as much as is needed. They may have it changed by now in their kits.

  8. Your a good photographer Mr. CozyMidnight. =)

    Thank you.

In a former life I was a portrait and wedding photographer. About the only thing I take pictures of anymore are airplanes. And most of those are shot with a $500 point and shoot. I still enjoy it, but I never do anything with them besides post them on the web.

Oh if I only had half the money I spent on a camera equipment, I could probably buy a cozy. sigh.

    glad you like the photos.

  9. I had a blast at RR this year. What a change in my 3-year hiatus. The first three years went kind of like "oh you're Rick Maddy. There's Marc Zeitlin. Wow there's the StaggerEZ." Now, more than once when meeting someone the common response was “you're the guy that went to Australia!" Yep, that is me. It is like a big family reunion, only better. There is not that annoying cousin that nobody likes! Old Friends, new friends and lots of canard talk caused the day to go by way too fast. I am so looking forward to next year.

Amy & I started to fly down in a rented spamcan, but had to turn back to due to weather. Started out at 1500 ceiling, but soon drop down to 1,000 with around 7sm visibility. Ok, let’s see what's ahead. When that bright spot ahead of us turned into 500-foot ceilings and 1 mile, there was no decision to be made. It should have only been a 90-minute flight, but we turned around after 25 minutes. Our good mate Bruce was in from OZ so we were not going to miss this year. The plane was unloaded back into the car and off we go for the 5+ hour drive. It was so worth it.

Here are a few of the pics that I took this year. Nothing mind-blowing, but there are a couple good pictures in the group.

  10. :carrot::brocolli::banana::grouphug:

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it

I'm about to lose control and I think I like it...

Amy & I'll be flying a C172 down. Camping right along side Lifessamsara (Bruce) or maybe the other way around.

Attention everyone, it is true that Australians drink lots of Beer. This year we'll have a token Australian and a temporary convert. So I guess I'm saying that somebody better have some beer. ;)

Glad to hear you made it over Bruce. When are you arrive at RR? Did you get a chance to get that hat?

  11. ... As a younger whipper snapper I flew with Mission Aviation Fellowship in Venezuela and Honduras, mostly Cessna 185's, in support of Christian missionaries.

Very cool Mike. I learned of MAF from an magazine article probably 5 years ago. They do really neat work. Amy & I send them a little money a couple times a year.

  12. Unemployed and it's not financing the Cozy too well at the moment. :)

5 months ago, I was responsible for all technical and training aspects for the worlds largest manufacture of submersible pumps and motors throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Anyone need a motor expert? Actually I just interviewed this past week. Next round of interviews is the week after next. Somebody hold your breath, I need some cozy money.
