  1. today.  Only one pic in the ad.  I suppose an owner-overhaul could be OK (done one myself) but you'd want to examine what was done.  It might have been just enough work to keep it flying.   I dunno about overhauling 3200 hr cylinders but if the compressions and oil consumption are good, that would be reassuring.  Seller could have put a lot more in the ad.  😞

Would have been nice to see a zoomed out picture of everything

Pics are on Barnstormers.  It looks like the wing and fuselage damage could be patched and fixed.  Not sure if the canard forces damaged the mounts but maybe the canard can be repaired too.  Replacing the strut would not be that hard.  Still, it would be a lot of work.  I am thinking maybe $15K would be a top price and maybe $8K-10K is more realistic to reflect the value of the engine and odds and ends.

  3. No idea really but perhaps the bump is disturbing the float setting or disturbing airflow into the intake.   Maybe engine flexing in the mounts is moving the carb linkage?  Carb bolts loose or intake tubes loose and allowing engine to suck air Good luck

Sure seems like a lot more than cosmetic work.

It looks like they cut into the starboard strake in one of the pics—one not included  in your post.  That could be why it was abandoned.   Strakes can be replaced but yeah, not “cosmetic”.    I would like it better at $5K or less.   🙂

  5. I noticed that this airplane, N25ED, which was discussed more than a year ago,   https://www.canardzone.com/forums/topic/21972-sales-ive-seen/?do=findComment&comment=66835      and seen again here just recently, is on ebay with a buy-it-now price of $16,500.    https://www.ebay.com/itm/255569294004?    See history in the CZ post.  Lots of repairs done but a lot of work to go.  Fair price, I suppose, with the O-235 included.  Sell the engine as-is for $4k and get the rest for say, $12.5K.  Whadaya think Buppy?  Make sure the seller has good title.

  6. FYI, here is a chart of my cholesterol, hope you find this interesting.   The thing to notice is that I had my first heart attack in 2007 and went on statins.  From 2007 to 2020 my numbers were just what the docs like to see--low Total C. and LDL, in fact, my GP at that time wrote "Great numbers" on one lab report.  The average of them is shown in line 37.   Then I had another H.A.in 2020.  Now, it was partly my own fault.  I was 35# overweight, did not exercise regularly but I rather naively thought the statin and eating a good diet would protect me.  We always ate good food but we loved our bread and carbs.  However, since going on the LCHF diet, I have lost 25 pounds, dropped the statins (my own decision), and see a major change in my bloodwork.  HbA1c (sugar in the blood) has come down but could be better.  Cholesterol has gone up but I am within the new standards I have read about.  I could still have an APOe4 genotype or LP(a) that can hurt me.  The APOe4 problem is pretty rare but 25% of the population has LP(a)--a bad form of LDL.

What I want to see is my HbA1c below 5.0 if I can get there, Trigs below 100, HDL greater than or equal to Trigs (I am way off there).   It is expected to see a rise in Total-C and LDL.  With only one test since I started (the last one), the result is still inconclusive but the weight loss is encouraging.

Recommending two books:  "Cholesterol Clarity" by Jimmy Moore, and "The Clot Thickens" by Malcolm Hendrick.   Lots more good talks at the Youtube channel "Low Carb Down Under".  PM me if you want to discuss

At the other end of the price spectrum, we have this specimen:

Priced about right--maybe even underpriced--for what it has.  I do not like light-colored cockpits though.  They can reflect up into the canopy.  Know why the Russians use those puky-blue cockpits?   🙂

  10. Have a look at Google Images for "custom +bicycle control cables".   Maybe something for a tandem bike.  I presume you have the old Brock cables.  Getting the length and barrel-size you want is the trick.  You can buy the sheath in bulk.  That and bare cables with barrels are sold on ebay.  There are videos on making your own cables if you get desperate.

  11. Ebay sale   https://www.ebay.com/itm/255557017078?hash=item3b80629df6      I have seen this one before but it's up again.  Bid starting at $500.  No telling what his reserve price is but it'd be quite a good price for a completed canard, boat and plans even if it goes for $1K.  I do not understand the logic of making people guess the reserve price.  Seller is just trying to get the maximum $$ for his project but trying to do that on Ebay in 6 days is dumb.  Better to set his price and list it in B-stormers for a few months.  If it doesn't sell, you know you have asked more than the market will pay.

  13. From the Cozybuilder's list

It looks like I'll be sharing a flying Mk IV in the near future. So, I'm offering up the Cozy IV project in my garage for sale, asking $8 500. Canard and wings are glassed, wings don't have winglets attached, and they are not finished. The nose lift is installed, and it also comes with an assortment of hardware components. It will need a new spar built and installed. I can provide more details to interested buyers.

I also have an assortment of materials that I bought to complete the foam and glass on the spar, strakes, and fuel tanks that I'm willing to sell for an additional $2 200. I don't want to sell the materials separately unless the project gets sold.

West France, Talmont St Hilaire,  near les Sables d'Olonne , where I am retired  (https://vendeeairpark.fr/).

Greetings.  I have a friend in Vannes (Monterblanc) just about finished rebuilding his Cozy Mk IV.  There seems to be a lot of canard activity nearby.   I will send you his email address.   I used to own a Cozy III.  I hope you are not a big person because it was designed by and for Nat Puffer and his wife who were pretty small people.  I used to fly mine without any cushions to get more hip room.  I was about 100 kg.  You can us short removable armrests that will help there.  You should also join the Cozybuilders Google Group and there are a couple of Facebook groups for the Cozy and the Rutan airplanes.  There are many sources of information on the net.  Enjoy your project.

  15. A lot of folks recommend Falcon Insurance in Kerrville, TX   https://falconinsurance.com/    I've been insured through them for many years.  I do not have hull and I wouldn't have liability except that my airport requires it.  About $550 per year for liability on a Cozy.

Re: Hull Ins..  I look at it this way:  I am unlikely to have a crash that totally destroys the airplane (fingers crossed).  Anything less and I can probably repair it myself.  My friend totally ripped the nose off his Cozy forward of the canard and he rebuilt it himself with no prior experience.   Any shop that _could_ rebuild it is going to cost you an arm and a leg.  As the builder of mine, I know the airplane pretty well and respond to any unusual things with the engine.  As a buyer, you should be a little cautious and ask a lot of questions until you get really familiar with the engine and operation.  Engine and brakes--those are key items to maintain.  Did you buy one of the "Sales I've seen" listings?

  16. This today.  Yup, nice workmanship, lots of extras, and an engine!  Cheap!  More pics in the ad

  17. Just talking to my friend about brakes.  For the Cozy, Nat Puffer specified Heavy Duty Cleveland brakes, kit 199-152 (pic).  I had them for a about 400 hours and switched to Matco W51LT models.  Here is a good article on brakes  https://infinityaerospace.com/brake-kinetic-energy-requirements/

From the article above, the Clevelands tolerate 192,000 ft/lbs of kinetic energy per brake.  The Matcos tolerate 329,900 ft/lbs.  Grove makes a brake that tolerates up to 279,000 ft/lbs.  https://groveaircraft.com/5series.html   I'm not an engineer but the amount of kinetic energy the brake can absorb determines how soon it fades.  In addition to avoiding brake overheating and fading, you want to have the stopping power to skid the wheels, if needed.  My Clevelands were OK but did not offer enough clamping force that I could lock up the tire.  I never used them to the fade point but I never pushed them, either.

Matcos are bit harder to maintain and service but I can lock up the tire if needed.  Maybe the Groves would be a good intermediate option.  It appears they can be serviced like Clevelands which are pretty easy to service.

The gent who owns Infinity was very sick a few years ago and I am not sure he is still in business but he had the best prices on Matcos.

I flush my brake fluid every two years.  The fluid absorbs moisture and if it gets too old the moisture can boil in the hot caliper and you lose your brakes.  My friend learned that the hard way.

  19. One time, USAir gave our Chapter cases of a super-expensive aircraft paint that had expired.  I grabbed a four gallon case and used it on a bunch of stuff over the years but on my last auto paint job, I had noticed it developed crystals in the paint that you could feel in the finished paint.  I used it maybe 10 years past the expiration date so I got a lot of use out of it.

Anyway, I ran across this site selling a similar surplus primer.  If I were painting an airplane, I would try it.  I suspect it will be good for many years beyond the expiration and you will probably sand the primer anyway.   Paint of any kind is expensive these days!  This offer is $50 for 4 gallons.  I suspect it was $400+ new.

  20. Saw this good idea from Andrew Anunson for mounting an oil cooler. He says he will probably change the aluminum straps to steel but aluminum is probably OK.   From experience, these types of installation need a small bump or deflector on the cowl outside and ahead of the cooler to create a bit of low pressure.  However, I bet he will need some sort of device to block off the airflow in cold weather.  There is one in this thread.

  21. B-stormers:   This looks very repairable but it is hard to value a damaged airplane.  No seller price, either.   The crash was discussed in the Cozybuilder's forum a year or two ago.   I would "insult" the seller with a low bid and go from there.  🙂  More pics in the ad
