  1. I do feel this forum gives people a greater feeling of participation and control than a mailing list would. For example one mailing list I'm currently a member of sends out 20-30 emails per night containing insights from seemingly unrelated topics, perusing through the trash till you can find any relevant information can be quite disheartening. The thing with forums, you have to become accustom to using them. The option is there to show all previous topics from the forums creation but its default view shows only recent ones, as a result you will get repeat discussions from people new to forums. Paint Finishes???? Doesn't that have its own chapter in the build manual (Chapter 25, I think) and there are chapter specific conversation areas on the forum but most folk dont get familiarised with the forum so just dump everything in 'Coffee House'
  2. hehe, ignore the last post, I've just read the licence agreement. see, ALWAYS get the facts before you open your gob (like me)
  3. I’m sorry folks but this seems like blatant back stabbing to me, correct me if I’m wrong. If this guy is allowed to sell these build manuals (with or without plans) then what’s to stop anyone else from ordering paperwork from Nat, building a website and putting the manual and plans online for folk to download. It wouldn’t be hard to do; many people have AutoCAD and word processing software. I may not be building within the next year but I was going to purchase the manual/plans to prepare but I must ask myself, will this apparent breech of copyright effect Nat’s input to the Cozy world? Let me know if I’m being a complete panic merchant

    X Prize

Almost every forum I've subscribed to seems to have alot of interest in turbine engines. This is just an idea but as someone else said on another post the 'drool factor' is bucket filling :-) With Nat's experience, wealth of nowledge of builders, Burt Rutan's publisised ventures and the high profile of the Cozy surely it would be possible to draft a new 'Cozy' design that would attract major investment. I for one would like to see the little guy win out against bigger opposition. After all with a $1mil prize up for grabs its very tempting. :-D
  5. As a novice, I'm not sure if this has any relevance whatsoever :-) Ever heard of Wingco? They used to make prefab parts for the Velocity and they are currently working on an aircraft called the 'Atlantica'. Its not a canard but its a pusher BWB design and it has a pressurised cabin. It falls in the same price bracket as the velocity ($30-50k give or take). A prototype hasnt flown yet but all the taxi tests have been completed so it wont be long. www.wingco.com (I think)
  6. Has anyone seen the Atlantica!! http://www.wingco.com/html/atlantica.html Its like a bloody stealth bomber. Cool plane. pity about the price though.
  7. Hi There, I'm not too sure about regs in the US but in the UK here are the points to be noted. Considering Purchasing an Aircraft? Documentation to be Checked Permit to Fly (or Certificate of Airworthiness) Certificate of Validity (This shows whether the permit has expired or still current, and when it will expire) Certificate of Registration (This shows who the CAA consider owns the aircraft) Flight Release Certificate (This shows when the inspector last carried out an inspection) Airframe and Engine logbooks (Check that regular entries have been made and suitably signed for by the owner and inspector) Weight and Balance documents (This will show if aircraft is overweight or out of balance) Hope this helps.
  8. Dale..... What a great idea! Cheers m8. You may have just solved one of my biggest problems. There are planes for sale here (UK) that range from £3,000 - £50,000. If by luck and the help of a few other builder I can find a suitable engine for a cozy then it would definately be worth looking into, if only for the bonus of getting a complete set of instruments and the use of the electrics aswell. The flying of the plane at the start of the building process would also give valuable experience as it would probobly take about 2-3 years before i would need to take any parts. Frank.
  9. And there lies the biggest problem to (male)home builders (gotta be a lil' pc)...... WIVES. They are the curse of the cozy, and to prove that they are, read on. First we state that wives require time and money, Therefor: Wife = Time X Money We all know that time is money (Time = Money) Therefor: Wife = Money x Money = (Money)2 and because money is the root of all evil (Money = root[evil]) Therefor: (and this is where it gets complicated) Wife = (root[evil])2 and we are forced to conclude: Wife = Evil Just a lil' banter no offence ment really (just incase the wife sees this post)
  10. One thing I've never really been able to find out is if you can perform any kind of areobatics with the cozy, I'm not talking deardevil stuff here just things like flying upsidedown, loops etc or am i just being a bit of a dreamer.
  11. Just a thread to help everyone stay in contact more easily. Like many ppl(people not Private Pilots License :-) I use msn messenger but to enable chat with my friends I've started using a piece of software called Trillian, available as freeware from download.com. It lets ppl with MSN Messenger talk to ppl with Yahoo Mesenger or Aol Messenger. great lil' piece of software. Forums are good for technical or general info but for a more personal touch i think messenger would be a great idea, letting ppl talk to each other in real time instead of waiting for a reply to your thread. I'll start the ball rolling, I dont use the email for anything other than messenger so I'm not bothered about the address getting into the hands of marketing agencies. When your adding a contact to messenger software use: datalore@hotmail.com
  12. Thanks Paul, You just got me fired in the right direction, my brother-in-law is an aircraft engineer and has offered to help as best he can also a few friends that i've only gotten to know through the vast network of builders on the net have asked if I can do the running then they help with what they can aswell. After attending a PFA rally on sunday i also got some great advice from the PFA rep We'll see what happens in the coming weeks and i'll keep you all posted. Thanks for the help!! :-) Frank
  13. There are ppl building in the UK, but the only one i've been able to trace is Paul Kuntz and he dosent intend to fly here. He's only building here with a view to returning to the states so the PFA rules dont really apply to him. Nat, if theres any support you could offer it would be greatly appreciated. I've only recently began to investigate the possiblilty of building a Cozy and have managed to locate 3x LongEZ within a 5m radius of home, the interest and the market is here for the MkIV its just that no-one has decided to push the PFA into gear or they cant be bothered with the hassle. I intend to have the first PFA approved Cozy 4place in the UK
  14. I'm gonna have to emmigrate The weathers not very good here anyway!!
  15. Hi Folks, I've just decided to start building the MkIV, however I keep hitting a brick wall: In the UK all homebuilts must be of a design approved by the PFA (www.pfa.org.uk)but the MkIV isnt, due to its design?? The LongEZ is approved but here they view the MkIV as being a widened version that hasnt been sufficiently strengthened to suit the widened fuselage. As you can see this is very frustrating, after several emails to the PFA the only response I've had was "The MkIV is not an approved model due to lack of stress analysis" with no suggestions of help or assistance. Can anyone help with this problem (please)
