ADS-B In: On the cheap

Recommended Posts

I finally got around to getting one of those ADS-B In kits through Vilros.

It took just a few minutes to assemble and get connected to my tablet.
The software was preloaded onto the 16GB SD card so that was convenient.

Two frequency receivers are included for full coverage.
The unit includes it's own WiFi transmitter and shows up on the available networks as Stratux.

I decided to upgrade the case to a metal case with a fan. Heat is typically the enemy.

I was surprised that I could get anything to show up sitting at my kitchen table but there it was (mostly airline traffic.)

Highly recommend it.

Nice, I want to check that out!

I built a PiAware ADS-B receiver that feeds into FlightAware, which gives me a free membership to their site and lets me lookup what's flying overhead. http://flightaware.com/adsb/piaware/build

Good stuff!
