787Guy
Glad to see this site is back up ! Used to lurk before but now I've decided I might be smart enough to build a Long Ez. Any flying examples in South Florida that I could check out and pepper with questions ? Thanks, Randy
Jon Matcho
I suspect you've been smart enough for a long while to build a Long-EZ. I also see you're flying a gyro -- that's on my bucket list / next-next plane to build. What kind? You can do an advanced search and put "FL" in the Location field (please update your profiles everyone ). Florida happens to be in the top 6 worldwide for Canard Zone visitors, so I'm sure they're out there. Visiting a project is very helpful as well. Welcome back, and good luck! Thanks for the welcome Jon. Currently flying an MTO Sport by AutoGyro. It does 90% of what a helicopter can do for 10% of the cost. My favorite aircraft to be in on windy days - no, really. I'm a firm believer that a guy should have a go slow farting around aircraft and a go fast IFR cruiser. I'm looking for the Ez to be the latter. Jon Matcho
Currently flying an MTO Sport by AutoGyro. Amazing. There was a program on my DVR last night that covered that company at OSH. They showed 3 or 4 models, and I came to the conclusion that I wanted the Cavalon model. It does 90% of what a helicopter can do for 10% of the cost. ...and without the additional/complicated controls, yes? Does it truly fly as easy as an airplane? I recall having a conversation with someone years ago that had an autogyro but cannot remember the details. Might this have been you? 787Guy
Jon, The Cavalon is quite nice for sure and yes the gyro is a different beast. It's harder to takeoff than it is to land just the opposite of a fixed wing. BTW, how is your Quickie coming along ? Either my rebuilding of a Tri-Q200 or the new kit I picked up (before finding the Tri-Q). I've been spending time on the Tri-Q. I need to get the engine off to repair the gear, but unfortunately it's location 1 hour away which is definitely not the best arrangement for being productive. I'll have an update after Sunday. Any luck locating nearby Long-EZ planes and projects? You could also expand your search to include other EZ-styled canards.
