Jon Matcho Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 This past weekend I drove ~5 hours to attend the 24th annual Field of Dreams Tandem Wing Fly-In for Quickie and Dragonfly types. I figured since I just acquired a Tri-Q200 with a broken nose gear I should go and learn something. I was quite happy I went, and felt the instant camaraderie after the first 5 minutes of saying "hello". Here are some of the highlights: Absolutely beautiful airport and location (KORE) with perfectly ordered weather Attendees came from as far away as Texas, California, Oklahoma, Toronto, and Maryland... Planes attending: 2 Quickie Q200s 1 Quickie Q2 2 Quickie Tri-Q200s 1 Beech Bonanza(all in beautiful condition) Presentation of an extremely informative aerodynamics workshop Load Test Competition of the 'confidence piece' from the plans -- somehow the piece with Dan's wife's cotton fabric included as a layup won (cotton is now being considered to be include in the layup schedule of all future Quickie aircraft) Structural analysis of Tri-Q nose gear failure Aliens Formation flyby involving ~40 canards Skydiving airshow the whole weekend Great food and good times for everyone I also learned that this is only the 2nd time this event has been held on the East Coast. Thank you Dave for organizing, and everyone that I had the pleasure to meet. Attached are a few pictures. I look forward to next year's 25th anniversary Fly-In! macleodm3 Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Looks like a great event! I wonder why this event and Rough River are held on the same weekend? They are both events for Rutan Derived aircraft, and both essentially on the east coast. 40 canards in formation!!! Now that's something you don't see everyday! They are both events for Rutan Derived aircraft, and both essentially on the east coast. I'm sure it was coincidence, and I know of Quickie builder/flyers that have gone to Rough River. You are correct though, and I've pondered the same thing. Both crowds would definitely appreciate the like-minded thinking of each other (canards, aliens, composites, performance, etc.).
