Crazycanuck
In the past I have thought about retractable gear. When this topic has been brought up in the past the main issue is the difficulty is getting a suitable retractable kits in an appropriate time frame. My question is why one couldn't build their own retractable gear from scratch? Aren't there plans built retractable gear sets? They seem like fairly simple apparatus to fabricate. Lynn Erickson
Look here: http://www.maddyhome.com/canardpages/pages/voolivrebrasilia/exindex.html thats just like the velocity gear. the gear can be made from scratch. I did mine in a similar way but with carbon. it can be done but it did take an extra 1000 man hours to do the complete system. would I do it again. No, it adds a lot of complexity for very little gain. Quote Evolultion Eze RG -a two place side by side-200 Knots on 200 HP. Arbiter
On this topic, I am working my own design, and I am planning to use retractable main gear. I want to use Oleo struts, and I have had a lot of trouble finding where to order one or get one built custom.... Has anyone had any experience and know where to get an Oleo Strut custom made or at least a place that offers the struts that can be ordered stock? Thanks! -Chris Quote Chris Zupp ~Aircraft Designer~ Preliminary Design Sequence I: Project Endeavour Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineer Private Pilot
TMann
Talk to JD at Infinity Aerospace. He's the only one I know of that works with custom, oleo applications in the homebuilt/experimental market . Lynn Erickson
Talk to JD at Infinity Aerospace. He's the only one I know of that works with custom, oleo applications in the homebuilt/experimental market . if you want to order them and pay for them then go to Infinity. if you want to receive them in ones life time it has not been a good place to go. TMann, you know I have to make sure everyone has both sides to the story. in fact you are still waiting aren't you? how long has it been now ? or did you get a old second hand set just in case? TMann, you know I have to make sure everyone has both sides to the story. in fact you are still waiting aren't you? how long has it been now ?We've already done this Lynn.I'll address the post instead. You can't buy gear that will work for the design that is the subject of this post........ not even from Infinity. What you may be able to acquire from Infinity is a source for oleo struts which could become a part of a new design. ...... now back to Lynn or did you get a old second hand set just in case?At the rate my project is progressing, I got these to build with. When my new pair arrive, I'll put them up for sale. Does that clear things up? TMann
Now just why would JD give out this information? I don’t think JD would compromise his gear design but he is very helpful and could direct a person to suppliers of basic oleo struts that could be modified to accommodate a new (non competing) design, which is what I think Arbiter has been discussing in his previous threads. That said ...... I don't want to speak for JD, there's enough of that already. I do know that he will talk with you about it and if he will be very up-front with you if he has a conflict. BTW, nice nose on your plane TMann. Thanks.
