When does the upper firewall go on

Recommended Posts

Spending a bit of time looking at the plans, the mailing list FAQ and organising the bags of notes I have made. I see when you make the upper firewall in Ch 4 it has the 'cosmetic pieces' extending out over the upper longerons in place, yet when taping the turtleback to the firewall they obviously have to be off. I can't seem to figure out when this happens. Can anybody please tell me:

 When does the upper firewall get installed onto the fuselage?

 When do the 'cosmetic pieces' get cut off the upper firewall?

I will cut the longeron pieces that stick out just before I install my final metal firewall it will cover them up. Right now I use them for turning the fuselage and as general handles. My spar is made but not installed I am holding off on this until I get all the frufra done in the fuselage. Once you put on the center section spar and start on the strakes turning over the plane gets to be a lot of work. STeve. Build on

Cut the cosmetic pieces off just before starting Chapter 18, page 4, step 7.

Curiously, Step 7 says you should have cut the cosmetic pieces off in Chapter 4 (page 3, Step 5). But there's no mention of doing that in Chapter 4.

Just wait until Chapter 18. If you do it in Chapter 4 you'll store them somewhere and forget where you put them in the years it takes to reach Chapter 18. You'll lose them and end up making new ones anyway.
