Jon Matcho Posted February 5, 2007 Posted February 5, 2007 Noticing an up-trend in forum spamming several months ago, I made several adjustments to the software to prevent slime-ball spammers from getting through and interrupting the joys of being a member on this forum. Other forums have either been overrun with spam or are confronted with it on a daily basis. Not here! Since the adjustment was made 3 months ago, there has not been a single spam post on the forum. The only trade-off is that posts made by new users need to make it past a filtering process, which may require human intervention. After that, a user's posts will flow freely. I wish I could do more to the spammers, perhaps crashing spammer hard drives or frying their CPUs remotely. However, I cannot, and the complete absence of spam posts will have to suffice. Happy browsing! Quote Jon Matcho Builder & Canard Zone Admin Now: Rebuilding Quickie Tri-Q200 N479E Next: Resume building a Cozy Mark IV
Marc Zeitlin Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Other forums have either been overrun with spam or are confronted with it on a daily basis. Not here!.....I suppose the two moderated threads this morning, one regarding a huge sale, and the other regarding sex with someone's wife, are not to be regarded as SPAM? And the claim is being made that these haven't been appearing on a regular basis over the past few months? I'm beginning to see the huge advantage that these web based fora hold over the COZY and canard-aviators mailing lists (which are, in fact, spam free) - you can get your sales literatures, sex tapes, and aircraft information all in one place :-). Jon Matcho Posted February 7, 2007 Author Posted February 7, 2007 I suppose the two moderated threads this morning, one regarding a huge sale, and the other regarding sex with someone's wife, are not to be regarded as SPAM?Aside from you, me, and Nick Ugolini -- the Canard Zone Administrators -- nobody else was subjected to those and the posts were put into a holding tank. And the claim is being made that these haven't been appearing on a regular basis over the past few months?Entirely accurate, for everyone but the admins. I suppose I should have reminded you of your administrative privileges, but didn't think that I needed to. For no other reason that you do not provide any additional value as an administrator here, and your obvious lack of appreciation (and support) for these forums, I have made you a regular member. The forum is now 100% spam-free for you as well. Do not confuse this with any sort of disrespect or lack of appreciation on my part for your contributions to the canard building and flying community -- your feedback, the Cozy mailing list, and your web site are most definitely appreciated by many, certainly including myself. Marc Zeitlin Posted February 7, 2007 Posted February 7, 2007 Aside from you, me, and Nick Ugolini -- the Canard Zone Administrators -- nobody else was subjected to those .....Aha - that was not at all obvious to me. For no other reason that you do not provide any additional value as an administrator here, and your obvious lack of appreciation (and support) for these forums, I have made you a regular member. The forum is now 100% spam-free for you as well.Yee hah! :-). Do not confuse this with any sort of disrespect or lack of appreciation ....I am most certainly not confused :-). Quote Marc J. Jon Matcho Posted February 7, 2007 Author Posted February 7, 2007 I am most certainly not confused :-).I should have asked, "please...", but that's good to hear. We're all good then. Jon Matcho Posted May 22, 2007 Author Posted May 22, 2007 Attention !!! Apparently there was a hole in the system that allowed for newly registered users to spam others through the private messaging system. I just plugged the hole, so if you have received ANY spam this way you can rest assured it's the last you'll receive.
